The Osborne lights were just officially announced for this year this week so we may not know for sure until this week next year. So unfortunately you may have to wait a year to find out.

The long-term upside to all of this means that Disney is doing something BIG at DHS!:cool1:

Thanks, fingers x it will be there, the kids have not seen them yet and they are amazing!!

This rumor/concern seems to come up every year. I recall last year reading the rumor that 2013 would be the last year for the lights, but as someone mentioned above, they've announced them for this year again.

They seem to be looking into several things thats why it comes up every year. I think this is pretty late to know for sure if it is coming back or not. This leads me to believe that they are planning something for that area its just not ready yet.

The plan was, according to Jim Hill and a few other places that ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight reality show is planned to replace The Osbourne Lights, mainly because the contract has come up to be renewed, and while Jennings Osbourne always let Disney use the lights out of the kindness in his heart, not to mention a complimentary trip annually, his children want a licensing fee for their late father's creation.

I heard this and supposedly the contract was extended for one year but thats it seems to be something is coming its just not ready yet.

They just started the ear hats with the lights! It;s so popular I cannot understand why they would not renew it. I hope they do. It was magical to see.

I have heard many different rumors about what they are going to do wit HS, like expand the Star Wars area or maybe put a cars land back there. I love the Christmas lights but Disney really needs to update that park a little.

Not to mention, and I know nostalgic people love classics, myself included, but this show is from 1995. Maybe it's time to do something new in the 'spirit' of the Osbourne Lights (again, that Disney will own themselves and then THAT will run for 30-40 years!)

Hi,

Thanks everyone.

I understand it needs updating, but I honestly think the Osborne lights should remain really. However, I do feel the park lacks rides and I only will go for the morning and to see fantasmic at night.

I think they could move them somewhere else. Fingers x for next year xxxxxxxxxxxx

I definitely think the Osborne lights could be moved else where. Only problem is where? Could they move it else where in DHS? I think Star Wars or whatever they do takes much superiority over the lights. I also think if they move them they want them in a park where there is an admission price. People have mentioned to move it to DTD but its free to the public to enter.

I think you're right. I am going to see the show this year for the first time. I was very happy that they are back for another year but agree with everyone that DHS need a major upgrade. I also like your idea of a new show that Disney owns. I think a large and amazing Christmas Lights show at Disney Springs is perfect. I know there is no admission fee and parking is free but to have a great show and a free gift to the people of Orlando would be appreciate and rewarded the rest of the year. Besides not everything should be looked at in immediate dollars and cents. Looking at the long run is more important.

When are they starting this year? Where do I find the announcement??? Thanks.

I would look on the disney website for dates of the lights.

I've been looking there, but the OP said they were just announced and I still don't see dates posted. Just curious, because we'll be there on 11/12/14.

I don't know if they run that early but I would check websites like wdwinfo.com or wdwmagic.com
