When Was Your First TIME at WDW?

I think it was 1972. I was about three years old.

For years I had a memory of going on a safari boat and seeing a hippopotamus in water. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I went back to Disney World for the first time after than and went on Jungle Cruise and realized where the memory was from. My life made so much more sense after that.

I don’t think I have any other Disney World memories other than that one.

I guess I have to find our old family photo albums…

Spring of 1972. Somewhere there's a slide (that's how my dad did his pictures back then) of we three (at the time) kids at the end of the day. I have on a big floppy brim hat that I bought and my braids are coming unravelled. One brother had a phantom dog leash that he got by Haunted Mansion, and the other brother had a Davy Crockett style rifle that he got in Frontierland. We're all sporting our classic Mickey Disney World shirts and we look totally spent (but happy).

Summer of 1980. I was a few months old and obviously don’t remember anything from that trip.

January 1976, as a young adult. My sister and I stayed at the Poly, and MK was the only park. Space Mountain was the hot new ride, but I’m afraid of big drops on roller coasters, and it took two or three days for my sister to convince me it was different. It became my favorite ride - until RnR came along!

Summer of 1980. I was six. Offly, the thing I remember most was being intrguued by the ticket books for the attractions and assessing as a child which rides would be best to pick for each category of attractions, lol.

February 1978 - I was 14. The only park was Magic Kingdom and the only hotels were Polynesian and Contemporary. My parents really wanted Polynesian, but it was sold out months in advance. My main memories are Space Mountain and Discovery Island. My dad carried a giant 35 mm camera with accompanying lenses around his neck and convinced the monorail attendant at the Contemporary that he was a photographer from some newspaper/magazine and he got to ride in the front of the monorail - left the rest of us to ride in back.

Edit: I just looked at my signature and I have March 1979 there - guess I better check with my mom.

January 2005 when I was age 12. It was a Bar Mitzvah present for me, as I would turn 13 in 2005. It was either a large and fancy party or a trip to WDW. I chose the trip to WDW and have no regrets 😁

When I was there in 1972 we stayed at Poly. You could go to the beach and swim in the lake. We also went to River Country which was their original water park. Anyone else remember that?
