When should we switch into our pirate gear?

I feel like I should be, hi, me again, with another stupid question. :rotfl:

We are getting married on a 3 night cruise on the Disney Dream next year, but have never been on a cruise. It's on Nassau Day/Pirate Day. We are hoping for a ceremony time around 3:00 pm but that won't be confirmed until about a month out. At some point after the wedding, we will be switching into pirate gear for pirate night because DF is huge into pirating, and I'm being a good sport. I'm trying to figure out if we should switch before the 6:00 pm Beauty and the Beast show or after the show but before the Pirates show on deck. It seems like we'd have half an hour or so to switch, but I also don't know how early we need to be up there for spots. Also, if anyone has suggestions on the best spot to stand for the pirate shows, that would be awesome.

This is our current gear. He also has a coat but it was too hot at MNSSHP last year for it. I'm hoping to get a new outfit in white but it's at the bottom of the priority list as far as the budget goes.

And yes, I realize to most people switching into pirate gear on their wedding day and being worried about good spots for a show seems absurb. We're weird, we know.

I promise my dumb questions will stop after the wedding!

Most of the fireworks we have seen happen on the starboard side, so top deck on that side would work. One suggestion about the wedding is to make it all pirate attire for everyone. That would solve your problem about when to put it on...being DCL nearly any costume goes. If you tell the DCL folks beforehand they can help with details. Or you could have a Frozen one for the wedding and pirate after than...maybe too many outfits to deal with. In any case, the Disney staff are very creative and might be worth a try. Best of luck and cruise on...

How long does it really take to get changed? We got 3 squirmy kids plus ourselves changed into pirate outfits in about 20 minutes total (and the part where I got changed took like 2 minutes). So I would think there'd be plenty of time to change before the BATB show and still have time to get a good seat.

As I recall, there are actually two pirate shows (one with Mickey and captain hook around 7:30 and one with Captain Jack later for the fireworks). We went straight up to the mickey show after early dining around 7:15 and the deck was PACKED so I think it is worth changing before the BATB show so you can head straight up after and get a spot for the Mickey pirate show..

I feel this way too with each question I have to ask! LOL

Congratulations and if you havent yet picked out a wedding dress, being a pirate bride sounds like tons of fun (if you are taking votes). Have a great trip and wedding! :)

No dumb questions... actually, quite smart ones. I like to be prepared, too. :)

Now, how does he manage to pack that cool hat and not have it wrecked?

Easy—you take socks and/or (clean) undies and stuff it inside the bowl of the hat and all around it in the suitcase.

We always get into our pirate costumes before the first sitting dinner. We don't do the pirate show anymore after the first time (definitely targeted towards little kids), but always go up for fireworks. Deck 12, around the starboard aft corner of the pool area is great for watching the fireworks.

If he doesn't make me do eyeliner on him, about ten minutes. I don't know how long it's going to take me to get out of this dress quite yet though, so that's an added time consideration. Usually I have the whole mermaid makeup to do, but I think I'm just going to be a normal pirate this time.

We live in central Florida, so thankfully that hat has never had to travel far. BUT it goes in its own bag usually, on top of everything else If we had to fly with it, I am 99% certain he would just wear it on the plane.

Fun fact: It's actually a Captain Jack Sparrow hat from the parks! We unrolled the tricorner hat, dip dyed it in coffee grinds for a couple of days, and then pinned it!

I don't have the dress picked but I do have a style in mind. Don't worry, if I can swing it, there will be a full white pirate outfit as well! ;)

If your worried about getting dressed too early, that won’t be an issue if your ceremony is at 3. There will already be plenty of people in their pirate outfits already. We got ready around 3 or 4 to get pictures with the characters in their pirate outfits before main dining.

There are no dumb questions at all, so feel free to ask them.

As for how early to dress in your pirate outfits, we wondered the same thing for our first cruise several weeks ago. We were thinking after dinner. We had the first seating, but I'm glad we didn't. We changed into our pirate costumes by 4 and we were glad we did. We were able to take photos with many of the Disney characters prior to dinner in their pirate costumes. We even had the opportunity to get a picture with the main guy himself, no it wasn't Mickey Mouse, but Jack Sparrow. At dinner, most people were already in their costumes as well. So my answer is, do it early as you plan.

definitely before dinner! love the idea of a white pirate outfit. Your pictures are going to be awesome!
