Our family wants to see the 50th celebration and cannot miss time from school. When do you think is the best time to go? We want to do Space Mnt and all the new stuff, but would like to find a time that is not a crush of people. Is this possible? I'd love everyone's opinion!

Thanks

If you want to do space mountain then you are talking Nov 2005 or later.

space mountain is supposeto reopen on may 5th.

I don't know where you got this information but as far as everything else i have seen it is incorrect. The new Buzz Lightyear attractions grand opening will be on May 5th but Space is not scheduled to open until Fall 2005 (November), unless of course a miracle occurs and even then I think July 17th opening is more likely.

i received a flyer in the mail from my DL AP regarding reasons to renew. it also gave me the impression that space mountain will open in time for the May 5th celebrations. i just tried to research it some more and came up with this:

http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dlr/special/golden/index?id=DLR50thHomepagePage

although it doesn't give you an exact date of when space mountain will open, it sure gives an impression that there's alot of reasons to be part of the 50th anniversary celebration beginning May 5th. what are your thoughts?

The 50th celebration goes through May 2006. Soooo,

In Wisconsin the kids get a break at the end of October for teacher's conventions. This is a very popular time for many families to take their vacations. Do you have a similar time available?

Naturally, many people feel as you do about not wanting to take their kids out of school, so that makes the times when all kids aren't in school, very, very busy.

I think that around Christmas is a beautiful time to see the parks, all lit up, it's magical. Of course that's when 50000 people feel the same way so you aren't avoiding crowds. If you're lucky enough to have your spring break 2006 at a time when not many others have theirs you might do okay.

May 6th, 2005 is the official start of the celebration. I would avoid this week if at all possible. If you are thinking summer, it seems that it will just get busier as the year progresses so early June 2005 will be better than July 2005 (especially since the official anniversary is July 17th).

If your school year starts after Labor day, then the last week in August 2005 might not be quite as busy as the rest of summer.

I don't know how old your kids are and if you are dead set on not ever taking them out of school, but you might find that the more notice you provide to teachers the more willing they would be to help accomodate you. Then perhaps the second or third week in January would be good. Very low crowds.

Hope that's helpful!

Just a minor correct the official kick of is 05/05/05 or May 5th (not 6th). It is a number thing. It is the 50th and 05 is 50 backwards.

05-04-2005 DL will be closed all day, DCA will be open extended hours

05-05-2005 the 18 month celebration will be kicked off in DL

CMs in the park are not commiting to an EXACT date for Space Mtn to reopen but so far they all agree it will NOT be 05-05 or even close....

We are going the weekend around May 20th .. .only because we go every year at this time for my son's birthday. Unfortunately this year it will probably be much more crowded due to the 50th. We go on Saturday and stay though Tuesday night ... taking our DS out of school for a couple days. I think for the most part it will be crowded for the 50th celebration. I know our TA was surprised at the limited availability for May when she made our ressies this month. Typically we don't make them until March but not this year, she gave us a "heads up" that we might want to make them a bit early.

In talking with a CM in August they didn't think Space Mt. would be open until the early fall but that could change. One never knows.

Overall, I think that if you are going to go when school is out, it will be crowded. You might want to consider going when the park is open the longest going first thing in the AM and staying until late in the evening. Mid-day is always more crowded.

Since the celebration is 18 months long it would end in November 2006 leaving a great deal of time to experiance all the new shows etc for the 50th next year as well. I would think 2006 would be a little less crowded just because the newness had tapered off just a little.

I've read many rumors that Space Mountain will be opening earlier than the officially posted Nov timeframe. While it seems unlikely that it will open for the May 5 kickoff, most sources believe it will be ready by DL's true birthday July 17.

I am going to try realllly hard to pay a visit to my fav park in September. Yep, my youngest will have graduated high school and ready for Jr. College and he don't wanna go with mommy and daddy on a trip.......and DD19 is too busy to realize she HAS parents..........soooooooo......this may be first time DH and self visit park 'alone' without kids in what.........20+ years!!!!
wow..............it will be weird but I think I can manage the weirdness of it. I will get over it as soon as I see the Matterhorn!!!!!
It will happen...........It will happen...........It will happen............
believe and it will happen.............believe and it will happen...........believe....believe....... :wizard: ::MickeyMo

I envy you for being able to go without your kids. :cloud9:
Mine are DS13, DD22, and DS24. When I mentioned to DS24 that I was planning a trip for August 2006, his response was "should I go ahead and request time off now?" I think I will have to draw the line for financing their Disney trips once they get married and have kids of their own.

No clue about when Space Mountain will reopen. DL website refers to it as a DL classic. Boy, as long as it's been closed, it better be a whole new attraction not a classic. I don't think DCA took as long to build as the new Space Mountain has.

I rode it the first week it was open, I think it was 1977, when it was still pitch black inside. NOW THAT was a thrill ride. You had no clue where you were going.

I love going in November! The Christmas decorations are all up and the Christmas fireworks and the yummy Christmas treats! I'm sure this November will be PACKED though. We've gone over Veteran's Day weekend twice, my youngest was born on Veteran's Day, and this past year it wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be actually, crowd wise. Saturday it was pretty dang packed but we spent the day at Goofy's Kitchen for a triple birthday celebration and then spent hours, literally, letting the kids run wild at the Redwood Creek Challenge. We did the big ride on Thursday and Friday and just hung out more on Saturday. We did dinner at PCH Grill at PP to get away from the crowds at the DTD restaurants(which were ridiculous)and had a GREAT time and a really good meal. The birthday kids loved making their own pizzas!! Then we did fireworks(well tried to they stopped right in the middle followed by mutant snow! LOL)and got a few rides in afterwards, it was slow enough crowd wise.

Anyways, I tend to ramble sorry. Veteran's Day wknd is busy but not as busy as Thanksgiving and you get the Christmas atmosphere still and hopefully Space Mountain.

We're planning an early December visit. We've never been there at holiday time before and we are looking forward to it.
