Trying to decide whether to take kids out of school the first week of May and go, or wait til first or second week of June. Just how bad are the crowds, heat, humidity during the first or second week of June?

As a Floridian, I think the first two weeks in May are the very best time to visit here...weather is beautiful with out being too hot, there aren't any crowds...local schools aren't out yet..(most schools are out last week in May for summer) from then on through the summer croweds just keep growing.

May 1-7! It isn't so hot or so crowde because most school systems are still in session! We went 2nd week in june and it was very hot !princess: princess: ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

Another vote for May. We've gone twice during this period and both times were fantastic for both crowds and weather.

We have visited during the 1st and 2nd week of June. The 1st week was not too crowded; resorts and parks became noticably more crowded during the 2nd week. I think WDW normally has longer park hours during the 2nd week; maybe you can find out more on this. Saturday, June 5, will be Gay Day at the MK and MK will be very crowded.

I never have visited during the 1st week of May, but from what I've read, that would be an ideal time to visit WDW. I haven't been able to justify taking the kids out of school if I can go at the end of May and beginning of June, but I'm working on it...:smooth:

Looking at your dates, your 3rd option has 8 days instead of just 7. That extra day makes the decision a little tougher; one extra day vs smaller crowds and cooler weather:tongue:

First week of May...beat the crowds, it will make all the difference in the world (no pun intended)! A much more enjoyable time with fewer crowds...not to mention the kids loving getting out of school for a trip to WDW! Check out my counter...I'm almost there!:cool1:

As long as the kids aren't missing any important tests -
Definitely the first week in May.
We went a few years back May5th-10th(record high temps).
It was till beautiful and with only moderate crowds the heats seemed much more bearable.

Here is another vote for the first week of May. The crowds are less, it isn't as hot, and everyone will have a much better time. I wish my kids were younger so that I could do that myself! Have a great time!

Hi! Pulled the kids (7 & 9) out of school last May 5-9th. We found the crowds to be very manageable - especially that Monday at MK. We rode everything we wanted more than once and never waited more than 5-10 minutes except for Splash and Jungle Cruise.
It was a week of record high temps, however - mid 90's the whole time! We're used to heat, though, and it wasn't too bad.

Would I take them out of school again? Probably in elementary school. Both did fine on make-up work and teachers were happy for them. I think we'll go in 2005 the day school gets out - like May 27th.

Have fun, fun, fun!!!

Im glad to see there are such great reviews for the first week of May, as thats when we will be there. We are going May3-8th. Normally we go in March, but couldnt swing it this yr so I picked the first week of May. We will have to take my son out of school, hes in 4th grade. But, we are driving down, so he will have plenty of time to do his work. My daughter will miss 3 days of preschool, but no worries there;)

I'm going the first week of May! Woo Hoo!

We went last year a bit later in the month. Low crowds, very warm. Decided to go a bit earlier this year because of the Flower Show - the flowers seemed a bit past peak last year. I hope to catch the magnolias in bloom!

Also vote for first week of May. We too love that time of year. My girls our still young, so not too much trouble pulling them out of school. Not sure what we'll do when they get older.

I vote for May as well. We had a wonderful trip in May last time we went. Perfect weather and low crowds.

We are going in June (1st-9th) because we can't take our oldest out anymore (he is in High School and really can't miss a week) SO do it now while your kids are young!

May seems to be the time to go! I guess my decision will hinge on
the outcome of my talk with my oldest's principal and teachers (he's in the eighth grade and is now taking two high school credit courses that will go into his H.S. GPA). May 1-7 is right after our state's exams, and I noticed last year that they let the kids kind of "rest" for a bit and didn't seem to do as much for at least a couple of days after.

Any more thoughts on first week vs. second week of June?

Thanks for all the help and advice!:D

I just learned from allearsnet that Dinosaur ride at AK will be closed April 19-June 1! That may affect my decision re: when to go, as I was looking forward to riding it for the first time.:(
