When to do character meals?

We know that we want to have breakfast with Minnie Mouse and we want to eat at Goofy's kitchen. Is there a time of day that would be better?

I thought that we might try to eat with Minnie Mouse prior to park opening since it is inside DL. We have an 8 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. We ate at the castle at WDW and I offered Ariel's but my daughter is adamant that she wants Minnie!

I need to make reservations soon. We will be there June 25 evening until July 3 morning. I would like to not make a reservation for our arrival or departure days.

I believe that the first PS time you can make is 20 minutes before the park opens. When we did the Minnie & Friends breakfast our PS was for 8:40 on a day that the park opened at 9 and we were the 2nd table seated. It's great to be the first ones in if you ask me, we got plenty of one on one time with the characters before other tables were seated.

I agree early is better. You get inside seats the balloon lady comes by and you get much more time with the characters. Last time we got a late PS well 9am! LOL
We had to chase down the balloon lady, she was only inside. We had families clammering over each other to see characters while others were sitting patiently at their tables. The only ones clammering to see us were the photopass people trying to make a sale. It was not as much fun as other times we were among the first in.
