When to Buy Annual Passes?

I know today's the last day to purchase APs and get the 13 mth deal. Besides that, any other reason to buy the passes now instead of waiting until the summer? Does the price tend to go up in February?

Thank you!

I would get them today and get the 13 month deal. The 13 months starts when you activate the passes at the parks. I think the odds are high that prices will go up. But odds are zero that prices will go down.

The last increase was February 2016, so it's a reasonable assumption that there will be an increase soon.

If you don't think an increase is imminent and you don't think the 13 month pass will benefit you, you can wait until just before you can make FP+ reservations. If you are staying on site that's 60 days before check in.

AP prices went up in October 2015. I don't ever recall them waiting over a year, so it's due.

Also looking for an opinion on the following:

Each member of my family currently has the Gold AP for the first time. (As a note, we were at the World when the 13 month offer began. We activated our certificate (purchased prior to the offer) and got the 13 months). Based on the points I had, we went Oct 2016, Dec 2016, going Feb 2017, and again Oct 2017. All trips will be covered by the AP.

Do most people simply renew the AP at the discounted renewal rate then plan their trips around that fact or plan their trips and if the AP makes since again purchase it at the full price?

We usually renew because we go every few months. But our passes expire in January and we don't have a trip planned until April, so we chose to buy new passes and have them activate when we go in April (which means our expiration date will be the following May) -- side benefit of this is I get to bump my renewal date to later in the year so I'm not paying for APs and DVC dues at the same time.

We visit in the Spring and again in the Fall. If we're careful about picking our travel dates we can get 3 trips per pass, so we'll go Spring-Fall-Spring on one pass, let it expire, and then Fall-Spring-Fall on the next (new) pass. We pay more per pass but we're buying one every 18 months instead of renewing every 12 months.

If you purchase the pass deal today, is there ah expiration date? Can we use the voucher for 2019? We plan on going to aulani in 2018, and our 2017 trip is only 5 nights, so no need for an AP.

My Gold Pass expired in December and we renewed, thinking if we renew with 13 month deal, we get two trips. Or if we let it expire and get new 12 month deal in March, we also get two trips, so we went with the renewal. But based on your post, I realized that a new Gold Pass would also get 13 months, so we would have to pay an additional $176, but now we get three trips out of this new pass.

I called Member Services. They were unable to change my AP, but they gave me the number for ticketing. After a few false starts, I found the right person, and they converted my renewals to regular Gold Passes.
So now we get 3 trips at approx $27 / day.

So thanks for your post. I would never have thought to check on this.

I called and got mine today and verified when I would be able to use them. I received the same answer when I asked Disney Parks on Twitter when the promotion was announced. All APs purchased with the 13 month promotion must be activated within 18 months of 1/3/17.

Unless I missed it, this limitation is not listed anywhere in the Terms and Conditions of the sale. I wonder how they can possibly enforce it when it's not disclosed at the time of sale.

After giving up trying to purchase online (which is where I read the Terms and Conditions), I ended up calling MS. The CM that I dealt with did not mention any expiration date for the 13-month option on these APs.

I purchased 3 13 month AP's on 3 different days. All 3 (different) CMs said that the passes must be activated within 18 months of purchase. It appears not all CMs are informing people of the 18 month expiration, which can
definitely present a problem especially as once added to MDE, the notation is that they expire 12/31/2030.
side note: the 13 months worked out great for us as we like to go around the same times (early-mid May, early-mid Oct) every year :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting the correct info on the last increase. I should have checked rather than relying on my memory. :)

Ok thx. Since we plan on aulani in July 2018, we are skipping DW that year. Our APs expire next month, and we won't need a new one until October 2019 (hoping for food and wine/Halloween party!).

My understanding is that the cert is good forever, but if activated after the 18-month period, is good for 12 months rather than 13. I can't remember how I knew this when I bought mine, but I did.

Hm. So there is no real benefit in getting the certificate except to lock in the price (should the price go up soon) if you're going to use the certificate after 18 months from today.

But again, this is not disclosed anywhere online that I can find. I just went back and read every bit of published information I could find on their website about this offer and this detail is not included anywhere. I can't see how Disney can enforce a policy that was not disclosed along with the other restrictions on this offer but was communicated verbally to some purchasers but not all. In addition, we all know that some Disney CMs are prone to providing incorrect information, so who knows if those who were told about the restriction were given correct information.

I may not activate this pass within 18 months of purchase so I'm printing out all the terms and conditions and will bring them along to the ticket window at the time of activation. I will try to remember to update this thread when the time comes.

Got me. I'm sure I read it from somewhere either in the go.com namespace or from one of the company's social media accounts, because I was waiting for some "official word" about being able to activate late next month before buying. If I find it, I will link back.

In my few minutes of googling, it's also possible that there is no longer an activation limit (at least other than the MDE expiration date) because e.g. touringplans says "activate anytime".

So, I'm pretty confident that it's not less than 18 months, but it could be more. Not helpful, I know.
