When to book airfare?

Hi everyone. I hope someone can give me some advice. Should I book my airfare now for November or wait awhile hoping some better rates come out? I always book with the cheapest non-refundable webfare that's out there. I'm afraid of doing it now, and then the prices go down. What do you think?

If price is your driver, then you can wait. November shouldn't be a busy month if you stay away from the Holiday weekends. The airlines pricing game is a fickle one. You just never know when THE cheapest deal will be out there. I say book when it gets to be a price you feel good about and leave it at that.

We need to book according to dates, so I do my booking up to 5 months ahead to make sure we get what we have to have (both DH and I work). Did our June/July arrival departure dates for $79 in February. It feels SO good to have that piece out of the way early.

It depends on the price you are getting right now. Lets say your average ticket price for your particular route is $250. Right now you are getting a web fare of $200. I'd say it's good and to go for it. But if the web fare is, lets say, $230 or higher, then I'd wait and see what happens. If the fare is under $200, then I'd book it for sure unless your average price is under $200 to begin with. Fares under $200 are becomming more rare, especially for flights over 2 hours long.

If you are getting a decent fare now, and decide to wait, you run the rist of the fares going higher (and that could happen as fuel prices keep going up) OR the flights selling out all together, in which case you're going nowhere fast.

The only exception to all of this is if you're flying over Thanksgiving. In that case BOOK IT NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW! And I mean NOW because it will not be there later!

Happy hunting!

Thanks so much guys! I just booked and got $79 each way. You can't complain about that, right? Thanks again! I love the disboards! I'm an addict.
