when to book air?

I have all my reservations made for our Aug 2002 vacation except for the air. Should I book air this early or wait? I'm trying to decide between Delta, Continental and US Air.

I can't imagine anyone will have an answer to this with everything that's going on right now. I keep wondering the same thing since I already have 3 free flights booked for our June 2002 trip, but I need one more. Prior to Sept. 11, I was waiting until Jan. for the rates to drop. Now I don't know if the flights will be cancelled, if I'll lose my free flights totally, will the airline be out of business, who knows.
