When somebody else is treating, what do you do?

Yes you did, but I think that poster is trying to say that what they would do would depend on the situation. (People have been bringing up other scenarios, right?) Because I know that would have made a difference for what I would have done.

for instance, at my long time job, I'd known my boss for 20 years, and she'd been my boss for 10. I would have felt comfortable to say to her buying us pizza, "Hey, is it okay if I get a garden salad instead? I'm trying to limit my carbs, etc." She'd probably have teased me and said go ahead. And I guess you all would have thought I was rude and tacky.

But in my current situation, where I am a contract worker that's here for 2 months and then I will never see these people again, I'm not going to make waves. I would have just answered, none for me thanks, and moved on. If they had asked, I might have gone into the situation or not.

And I think that's what that poster was trying to say.

That's exactly it.

Rude. I hate it when people complicate things that should be simple. Pizza was offered - that should be what was ordered.

This wasn't a dinner party, it was a last minute treat. I assume everyone already had a plan in place for lunch. When I worked, people would bring in surprise treats, like bagels or donuts. If someone was low carving it, too bad. I don't like donuts, so I just didn't eat them.

It was very thoughtless if you didn't offer gluten free donuts as well!

;)

Me too! I would hate for her to see this on her own....I will probably just tell her myself on Tuesday.

Thanks for your thoughts. Have a very Merry Christmas - (or whatever you celebrate!) You sound like you need some extra Holiday Spirit!

Wow, I don't know why you would say that. You are the one that is out of sorts about your sick friend. Funny how you are trying to turn it around. I'm sure your friend will be charmed when you show her this thread on Tuesday that 50% of the people you polled thought she was rude to have the audacity to order a salad during a lunch that HR told her to work through.

Millions and millions of people die going the convention route to medicine. To each his own.
I have no problem with people making a choice that will most likely negatively impact their health status as long as they are well informed about the consequences.

Hmm. Interesting reply. I have been through cancer so I can assure you that I'm pretty darn well informed of the consequences of chemo and radiation, massive evasive surgery, etc, etc. on my body. Not to say that some of those things aren't the right treatment for the proper diseases but it's not a one size fit all treatment and education is the key. Holistic treatments for certain illnesses should not be scorned.

I'd advise you to step away if you're going to continue to goat people.
It's December 23rd can we have some Christmas spirit and be nice?

lol I think your posts have been the snarkiest yet - maybe step away.,,
You should have seen the post above yours that was edited. Maybe stop bumping the thread if you'd like to see it fade away.

If I were in your co-worker's position, and if I wanted the salad, I would at the very least offer to pay for it.
More likely, if I felt that I couldn't eat pizza, I would eat what I already had brought for my lunch.

Did you see that post?
Because all it said was that I feel an admin or mod should step in but then I thought better and instead contacted one directly to just tell them they should look over the thread and whatever they decided about it I'd agree with.

Huh?

Are you OK? :confused3

What does my HR department have to do with this? We don't have HR onsite in my building. They sent the early-release email as a blast to every office in the United States from our Headquarters. Everyone was free to take their lunch if they wanted to, but my boss knows none of us would since we all wanted to leave early. As a project-based department, we work until the job is done. There's no timeclock to punch. Stop adding whatever you want to to make this more dramatic. It really isn't.

The poll was really more like about 80% rude vs 20% not rude, but I admit I didn't do the exact math. I've stated I was surprised by that.

I don't think you've ever answered, come to think of it - do *YOU* think it's rude to ask for more than what is offered? I'm OK with your opinion on the actual topic of the thread either way...this thread has been very interesting so far!

I was taught to not 'look a gift horse in the mouth'!! So, yes, rude!

According to the OP, her co worker had not even decided at break time what dietary route to take - what difference in her health would it have made to wait a few more hours? Supposedly, since this offer was made after everyone was at work, wouldn't she have already made her own lunch (or arrangements) and 'could' have just gone with that?

We've got some folks who can't seem to respond respectfully, so this thread is done.
