When should I start looking for airfare out of CT???

My only concern with Westchester is the parking. On the airport website it states that parking is limited and over $20 per day. That is alot of money when you are going for one week. I have not been able to find any other info about offsite parking. That is why we choose Newburgh. It is a longer drive but parking is onsite for less than $50 for one week.

OUCH!!! I just called the airport, yup - $21.50 a day! no discounts!

Hey fellow Nutmeggers!

Anyone know if Westchester or Newbergh have any hotels that offer free parking if you stay over the night befoe your flight? I have a friend who lives here in the Hartford area and always does that at Bradley - its too close to home to do that IMHO, but they say it adds to the fun of the trip - I might consider it, though, if it is an option for one of the NY airports.

We usually do well sitting tight and waiting for Southwest out of Bradley, but the Airtran and possible Jetblue options have me intrigued.

I could not find any park/sleep/fly offers online for Westchester when I searched. Also when Jetblue announced Westchester people on Flyertalk were saying how there is not enough parking at Westchester now before adding more flights. I have seen people post here asking about parking for Westchester but have not seen any answers for offsite or hotels.

We have flights booked through Airtran out of Westchester in April. Southwest out of Bradley was way overpriced. Now that I'm aware of the parking issues at Westchester, I'm concerned. We're still saving money, but it's just the thought of paying $140 for parking. I'm interested in ANY other options for Westchester parking. Does anybody have any ideas??

How bout "red dot" type transportations to and from the airport?

We flew AirTran from WestChester County Airport (hpn). We stayed overnight @ Wellesley Inn in Armonk which offers free shuttle service to the airport. We were in Orlando 10 days. The AAA rate was like $130. The hotel was not very nice at all... even the kids gave me a little look like "dad, where are we?". It really was not too bad. Clean rooms, but it's just a place to sleep... that's it. Either way, I was able to park for free and be ready for an early 8:00 a.m. nonstop flight to Orlando. Good luck. The parking thing was a real concern to us @ HPN as well, and that was the only place I could find.

Grew up in Milford, live in Stratford now. We wait until about June or July. Download the dingfares from Southwest airlines that should help you get the best deal.

Great info about the Wellesley Inn for park, sleep and fly.
Westchester is only an hour away, but with the steep parking rates, I'll be driving the extra 15 minutes each way with kcminnie to Stewart-Newburgh. We have flown out of Stewart several times and love it. It is small and hassle free, with cheap, close parking. Also, jetblue has better flight times for us out of SWF than HPN.

Either way, it is great having both these airports as new options for us in western CT. Beats the drive into the city any day!

Does anybody know if any of these hotels offer day rates and then use their shuttle to get to HPN??

I was also unhappy with the times for the new flights out of Westchester on Jetblue. There are only 2 flights a day and one is at 9:00pm. I hope they will change that in the future to a better time. For now we will keep going to Newburgh.

What is HPN like? I have never been in the terminal. It seems small. Is it less stressful than the big airports? I am not fond of flying so the less stressed I get in the terminal, the better I will be on the plane.

One thing I will say is I will never fly AA again. EVER. We have had more than one bad experience with them. Most recently (2005) we were on a plane that was filthy dirty, our seats were right outside of the bathroom and it was gross. Then when my dd who at that time was 18months old woke up when were landing at LGA and threw up and the flight attendant who was miserable and unsympathetic through the whole flight threw a shopping type bag at me and told me to put the bag she got sick into in that bag and take it when we disembark the plane! Of course I didn't. Whatever, lets hope this is a better experience. I wanted to drive but got out voted.:confused3

Something to keep in mind. You might get a bigger jet flying out of hartford than Newburgh or WP. On a 3 hour flight it can make a difference.

Jetblue is flying the A320 out of Newburgh & White Plains. Those are the same size as the Delta Song planes were. Now Delta is flying the MD88 out of Hartford. Jetblue has more better seat pitch and tv's.

I travel to Florida every August and have found that the Logan flights start advertising the specials in late March/early April. Last year I booked Jet blue out of Logan for $65 each way the last week of March.

Yup, I just called jetblue and they confirmed that. I'm not a big fan of airbus, but thats me.

Also, I have a family of 5 total and pretty sure it impacts the flight cost and/or seats.

Would love the 65.00!!!!

Hey fellow Milford... person. Where abouts are you? I am smack in between RTE15 and 95.

Hey neighbors! We are in Milford too (on Orange line south of Rt 1).

We usually wait and get a good fare on SW out of Hartford. SW will also give you credit if you see the fare go down after you have bought your tickets. We just find it very easy to fly out of Bradley. Less than an hour to get there, we usually park in the long term onsite lots for about $60 for the week, and SW has a few flights to choose from. We used to fly Song also, but since they are gone, Delta only has a couple of direct flights. A friend goes out of Providence on SW, but he lives further East. Tweed would be great wouldn't it!

Wow- this could've been my thread last month!;) we booked 2 families out of White plains in January - got good deals- like 75 down and 59 back....
But then we found out the parking rates:scared1: :rotfl2: :headache:
we were going for 2 weeks at 22 a day? ACK!!!
We paid a friend to drive us the hour and 1/2 trip down and to pick us up again- it was still cheaper than parking there! Our lesson we learned was to always check the parking before gettig flights!
We LOVED airtran- they leave early for their flights and both times we got where we were going early- love them!
The WP airport was so nice, small, easy to get through... boarding was easy- best flights ever!
If I could find a local hotel where we could leave the car,I'd pay for a stay the night before!
Newburgh sounds pretty good, it's about 2 hours from us, Bradley is the closest, but we got tired of waiting for Sw to put out decent fares....
