When is the best time at Vero if...

We want to go when we will have the best chance of seeing the turtles.

What months are best (and of those months, what's the best weather-wise for ocean swimming, not too hot/humid, less rain).

If you look on the members web sight under receration you will see it. Thay have turtel walk but it's done on a lottery system. You can also call the resort and ask them.

Depends on which turtles you want to see. Moms laying eggs or hatchlings heading for the ocean.

I can say that the turtle activity begins (in Vero Beach) in March with the moms laying eggs with peak time sometime in May. Hatchlings start emerging in early July and continue into October with the peak being sometime in August.

We have tried many times to witness either, but have not yet been successful. On the other hand, many people get lucky. Our time will come.

We generally just head out on our own and stroll the beach back and forth at different hours of the night and pre-dawn hours. Last year I happened to break a toe on a large rock. You can't (shouldn't) use any lighting during the season from March thru October so clear skys help with letting moonlight give you light to see. My mishap was on a cloudy night.

We were there one Memorial weekend, and in the mornings we definitely saw turtle activity from the night before...it was a false crawl, but exciting none the less. We didn't go on an official turtle walk with the resort, but a beach walk with a CM one afternoon, and she pointed out noteworthy signs of turtle activity.

We did the official walk awarded by the lottery system several years ago. I believe they said peak times for adults laying eggs is June and July. On some of our August trips we have seen 2 baby turtles total. Exciting none the less.
