When is "Enough" really enough?

Thank you for hitting me over the head! You guys are so right. :goodvibes This will be my husband's first trip, as well as that of three other people going along (our daughter included) and I want to see and do EVERYTHING in the chance we might not get to go back (if I really break the bank or my husband's tired old feet). But, the key at this point is probably... to pack. And breathe.

I am only planning Two special dinners that we haven't done yet.
O'hana
Brown Derby

I've planned more in the past and either we are busy I get there and realized we have "too much stuff planned" and call and cancel... SO yes, Moderation and just the realization you will have fun no matter what is key! Have fun!
OH, And I remember my husbands first time, he seriously thought it would just be "OK" and turns out he loved it. And I had no trouble getting him to agree to this trip :) Have a great time! :D

over the past few years, we have learned not to try to cram everything in on one trip, this is a vacation, and everything on a strict timeline doesn't really leave room to be adventurous and stop and smell the roses so to speak.

Also if you have kids, trying to plan everything out on a time table does not always work, and stresses yourself and the little ones out when trying to do so.

We leave Saturday. I'm planned. I have ADRs, I have FP+ for BOG, I stalked the MDE until I snagged an ADR for BOG as well. I have my FP+es, including A&E (for whom I had an Akershus ADR until I discovered that I wouldn't need it with the move to MK). I have touring plans for every day (which do include a 2-3 hour nap/swim break in the middle).

I'm still (obviously) checking the DIS (just in case something epic in the 7DMT is revealed), but I think I'm done planning. I was thinking of revamping some of the plan because my park choices may not be the absolute best ones for the day based on the crowd calculators, but...meh. I've done enough and, if it's not 100% the best choice at the best time, we'll still be together and having fun. The only thing I'm going to continue to do is track down an Elsa dress. And watch the news on 7DMT! :goodvibes

As my DH always reminds me, "you'll be back, this isn't your last trip to WDW." I go pretty much two times a year and have done that for the last 15+ years. It is my favorite place to vacation and, fortunately, my DD19 enjoys going with me. (DH comes with me if no one else will come.) Anyway, I do a few "special" things each time, but try to stop to smell the roses, too.

Based on the OP's posts, you're way past "enough." :goodvibes

Do as much as you want because once the kids get older they may not want to do them...

My kids are 13and 16 and it's hard to get them excited.....we have done almost everything....but i'm so glad we did because it was awesome when they enjoyed everything.

Last trip 3 weeks ago, dd and friend wanted to sleep?? Other DD's friend didn't like rides and wanted to shop ??:confused3 and eat at the sit down restaurants?? At there age I was lucky to stop long enough to eat a hotdog.. I wanted to do and see everything...I'm still like that:rotfl2:

So enjoy as much as you can.....

When is enough enough? If your family looks at you in fear every time you pull that laminated park plan out, it's too late. If your little ones are having melt downs in the park, its too late. If you find yourself saying "we're going to be late for......." more than once a day, its too late. If everyone is too exhausted to get out of bed on the 4th morning, you've hit the wall, and its Way too late.

BT, and guilty of all that on our first couple of trips. Planning to do too much can spoil the whole vacation, IMO. Now we plan for down time, and only one or two special experiences per trip.

:thumbsup2 Same here!

Now I also very specifically plan down time. It's one of THE most important things that I put into our itinerary, and one of the first things I schedule, right along with the parks. Park days, down time, meals, and THEN any special activities go into whatever space is left over. pirate:

We're here now and I had the same problem when planning but when exhaustion sets in, you do what you can....

We always have the "next time" attitude. If we don't do it now, it gives us something to be excited for next time.

We've had 3 awesome trips with zero of the costly extras (unless you count dining).
We haven't done a dinner show, a cruise, BBB, Main St barber, water parks, DQ, mini golf...etc. Heck, we never even did park hoppers.

we have only been once. We approached that trip as a "once in a life time trip" and tried to do and see it all in a week.what a huge mistake that was,by the 4th day there we were completely burnt out and my daughter wound up getting sick.
we are going back this august with a completely new attitude and outlook. Our plans this trip will focus more on the things we didn't do or wanted to do on the last trip.most importantly, we will not get in a twist over not getting to do some thing, there is always the next trip to do that :)

I keep it really simple. The parks and resorts are special enough, and I usually only book maybe one special thing per trip and that's for a non park day. Here's what I'm doing for a four day trip in December:
Day 1 -- resort time // swimming and tennis -- plus two hour Titanic attraction at I drive
Day 2 -- SeaWorld
Day 3 -- resort time // swimming and tennis // Disney resort hopping -- park at Polynesian -- see Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge for Christmas decorations. // Maybe dinner at Ohana -- haven't decided yet. Would be my one and only one table servie
Day 4 -- MK

I pick one or two "special" thing each trip. Two years ago it was Wishes Dessert Party, last year it was Fantasmic Dining Package and Mickey's BBQ. This year it's Hoop Dee Doo.

Our special thing for our next trip is Dining with an Imagineer (I want dinner @ Flying Fish, but it hasn't opened yet, so I've booked lunch @ the Brown Derby).

I think my time to say enough was just now. My FP booking date is tomorrow and I'm looking at all these notes. I was considering a Keys to the Kingdom tour, but that's 5 hours we could be moseying along at our own pace so I decided to skip it. I can save it for when DH and I are on our own.
Only my youngest(16) is going this time. The two things he wants to do for sure are 1) typhoon lagoon and 2) eat at Cosmic Ray's. I even asked him if he wanted surfing lessons at TL since his bday is a week before our trip and he said "Naaah."
We are at BWV so I have a couple of days we can leave Epcot or DHS midday for some pool time, but no real downtown disney scheduled. One evening with local family would have been our DD night, but we met them last time and it was a hoot.
Don't get me wrong. Since 2000 we have done special things--Hoop De Doo, Wishes party, Characters in Flight. We are eating at California Grill for our anniversary. But I want to relax, too. It was a long, miserable winter and I need some downtime.
