Was anyone on this cruise?

We were on the 3/9 "Fire Cruise". The article pretty much tells the story. While the staff tried to take our minds off the incident, the remainder of the cruise did have a "different atmosphere".

Yes, we were on this cruise as well - see my posting on the reg cruise board under "3/9 fire cruise" several pages back - our stateroom was fairly close the the aft funnel on deck 8 - we were dressed and ready to leave the cabin when a knock came on our door to evacuate - we were already on deck when they issued the all call. A correction to the article - the captain never did say exactly where the fire originated or what the cause of the fire was the remainder of the cruise. The crew members were told not to discuss it and everyone went on as if nothing ever happened. And yes, it did affect the remainder of the cruise for us- not knowing what had actually happened I really couldn't relax as before not knowing if it was something that could happen again.

That must have been a horrible ordeal. I'm sure everyone was pretty shaken up being dragged out of bed in the early morning hours. I'm glad everyhting turned out o.k. I also heard where everyone was given a ship board credit. Is this true?? I sure hope DCL did something nice to make the incident a little less painful.

That was $162 Canadian. Better then nothing which was probably what the crew members received for their efforts. When I heard the first report "Code red something, aft 1", I thought maybe someone jumped ship but it seemed like a couple of minutes later when the captain got on and said there was a fire in the back of the ship and I saw smoke and debris going by our window, I got scared because we had our grandchildren (7&4) with us and was concerned about people panicking. It's strange how you react to these things. When they sounded the full alert, I grabbed a towel. I felt if I was going to be in the sun for a while, I wanted something over my head. My dw grabbed her gold she bought on St. Marten and my dd grabbed her clean bra and panties. My dsl grabbed the kids. Were there any George Constanza's on the boat?

On the very first night, the captain addressed the issue of the fire and assured all of us that the ship is safe and has been deemed as such by the insurance agency.

Our server told us how the fire was supposedly started. Basically all of the galleys ovens etc go out the aft funnels and because there is grease and fat being burned in the ovens and stoves, somehow that caught fire on that particular night. It seems as though not much more has been said on the subject since there is probably not much more to it than that.

As we were disembarking on 4/20 the repair crew and new funne piece arrived to fix the external damgage the fire had caused. Would have been fun to see how it went!

I was looking for a link on the fire. Thanks for posting. Sounds like they handled things pretty well, all in all. I'm really sorry for those who were disrupted, but I am glad that things were not even more serious.
