When does lunch end and dinner start?

we're working out a our budget and noticed that a lot of restaurants serve the same (prob smaller portions) items at lunch at a lower cost then dinner.

is there a standard time that lunch ends and the dinner menu comes out?

would be better to arrange a late lunch and have a light dinner instead of the other way round.

This is a good question.

You are right, often restaurants have the same food (slightly smaller portions) for lunch at dinner but at a fraction of the cost.

We did this several times during our June trip. For instance, we took one of the last lunch seatings at Le Cellier on Father's Day - 2:45 p.m. - and had our "big" meal of the day. We saved quite a bit by paying lunch prices and we were all full enough that we didn't stop for dinner - just snacked a little. Plus, we found the wait staff and restaurants in general are less frenzied during the late lunch hour than during the peak of the dinner hours. It was a nice break during the heat of the day and while everyone else was eating dinner, we were enjoying the parks!
