i thought this might be kinda a fun question to ask...feel free to move it if its on the wrong board.

When does it really hit you that you are on vacation In Disney?

For me its when i get outside of the airport and see the magical express busses. And take a big breath in and smell the FL air. I dont know what it is but FL smells a lot different than NH :rotfl:. Haha if i was ever blind folded and asked what state i was in i would know in a heart beat. haha :rotfl:

but back to the question...when does it hit you?

When I ride Splash Mountain for the first time... :goodvibes :lovestruc :goodvibes

It doesn't hit me until we drop our things off at our room and leave for the parks. Getting on that first bus to MGM....wow. What a feeling!

As soon as I see the palm trees while riding the "monorail" from the terminal to baggage claim at MCO, I feel like I am "HOME!!!" It is a great feeling!

For me when the plane is landing and I see the palm trees- thats kinda my we are here moment! Of course the last few times we've landed at night and I couldn't see the palm trees :sad1:

When we first enter the room and unpack while listening to Top 7 Must Sees and WDW Today :cloud9: That's what Heaven truly is to me!

The moment I step foot on the Magical Express bus. That is when it finally hits me that I am there, and have no cares for the next 10 days.

What really completes it for me is the smell when I step foot inside the lobby of the Polynesian. There is something about that smell that I wish I could replicate in everyday life.

This past March, it hit me when our navigation system took us into the resort on Cast Drive (or something like that). I knew we weren't supposed to be there, but there was no guard or anything, so we kept driving and going where it told us to go.

It wasn't long before I heard my DD16 shout out for me to look out my window. There, within 15' of me, was the backside of Space Mountain! It was awesome! A totally different perspective from seeing it inside the park.

I knew then, that I was definitely at WDW! I admit - I got the warm fuzzies!

Then, the navigation system took us into the service entrance of the WL.

Well right away I thought, when the alarm goes off at 2am and it's time to jump out of bed, into the shower, push back a cup of coffee whilst shoving the last 5 things into the suitcase....the adventure and the magic begins :wizard: !! However when we first pull up to our resort, for us always the Pop! Hear the music outside, and then walk into the gleaming lobby...I'm in heaven, I'm home then :goodvibes.

I just love threads like these by the way!

At MCO............

I'd have to agree that I know I'm on vacation at Disney when I'm standing in line for that ME bus! The anticipation of knowing I'm just a few short minutes away from the start of my vacation is awesome.

Of course, any time after that when I see an ME bus it reminds me that the next time I board I'll be going home. Yikes! So I avoid them after that initial trip :rotfl:

when i first step off the plane, and the warmth hits me. coming from wisconsin, i start shedding clothes as soon as i feel the warmth. it is awesome.

Right when my plane takes off from there on out I'm in Disney mode and nothing else matters.

The night before we leave, everything is packed in the car; ready for 3:15 am to leave the house!

It hits me bad as soon as I find out how broke I am.. :rotfl:
I think it's when we get to our room and when we get on the bus or monorail or boat to the parks.

well, we generally camp in our rv at fort wilderness. I start to get really excited when we drive through the WDW arch and enter Disney property. But it really hits me when I enter that first park on that first day and hear the music playing. :)

It's a transition...when the plane takes off, riding the MCO monorail, smelling Florida air, seeing the lush greenery/flowers (if it's winter). I love the little fountain at MCO that's between the terminal and the rental car garage. I'ts nothing that special, but it looks like it's made out of coral- and that totally says Florida to me.

One time we flew late at night, and we were all very tired. It was February, and it didn't hit me until all of a sudden the next morning - when I wnet out be the pool and felt the warm sun, saw the colorful flowers, heard the splash of the pool's fountain, and breathed in the tropical air. That was a moment to remember.

When I pay that final toll on the Turnpike! I get very excited at that point...but I have to keep a low profile so the family doesn't think I have truly lost it. :teeth:

It hits me when my plane starts final approach to MCO. As we descend low enough for me to see the airport, and the palm trees, and recognize the terminal buildings, it really takes hold in my brain that I'm in Orlando, and I can't wait to get off the plane and into that terminal.

Maybe others don't agree, but I love MCO. I think it's a beautiful airport, very well designed, efficient, and comfortable, and I enjoy the time I spend there, especially on the way home. But I'm so eager to get to WDW on arrival that I practically jump off the plane and don't really stop to appreciate the place.

There's something magical thgat clicks in my head when the plane descends low enough for me to see all of the details of the airport, and it becomes obvious that I'm not at home anymore, but in a far-away land where the trees stay green all through the winter, and the swimming pools never close.
