When does it hit you....

I know we are getting "closer" when I start seeing the 800 Cafe Risque signs on the interstate.
I know I am about to jump out of the seat of my car when we come up on one of the welcome arches at an entrance and I start honking the horn like a mad woman (even if someone else is driving).
I know we are there when I either see a monorail on the line as we drive in or we have to "check in" with security at our resort.

Hahaha!!! I know what you mean. Those signs that say "Trucker's Welcome" and "Fresh Food and Fun" on the SAME SIGN just make me cringe and crack up all at the same time! :)

When it really hit me last time was when we were getting ready to go the parks for the first time. I was getting teary eyed and kept telling my DH, "We're finally here! We're finally going to WDW!" After the months planning our trip and doing my research, and the stress of our previous jobs we were finally going on our honeymoon.

For me it starts early, usually about 15 minutes before I leave work the last day, right after my "Ha-Ha I'm going to Disney and you're not dance“:dancer:

Seriously as soon as I leave work that last day I am in Disney mode. After all the magic is not a locale it is a state of mind.

When we are staying at WL and drive under the sign of the same name.

I love it when we ar e in the airport, look at eh designs on the floor. Then we head over to the first tram ride.

"oh look out the window and see the palm trees swaying in the breeze".

Ahhhhhhhhhhh we are home at Diseny

As soon as I see the palm trees while riding the "monorail" from the terminal to baggage claim at MCO, I feel like I am "HOME!!!" It is a great feeling!

I agree with this word-for-word. Those palm trees! I also love seeing all the
Disney bags being carried by all the poor folks who are going home! And I'm
just arriving. It's all still in front of me. Wonderful! :woohoo:

Haaa! I love that feeling too when checking into a resort. But then I have my DH say to me "Don't worry, that will be you in a few days." argh!

for me i know i'm in disney the first time i walk down main street. i just take a minute to take it all in, the smell, the sounds, the sights!!! I love seeing the Castle and walking towards it! There's no greater feeling than being in Disney!!! :goodvibes

For me it will start the morning we go (before we get to the airport). My DH will already be down there, so our DS4 will be excited that he's going to Dis and meeting up with Daddy.

I think it will actually hit me full force when we get to the resort. :)

For me the excitement builds as we go: I start getting excited when we get off the plane and feel the florida heat; Then as we drive thru the Walt Disney Gates I start jumping up and down (in my seat) while I am taping it; and finally the first thing we do after check in WALK DOWN MAINSTREET AND SEE THE CASTLE!!! I start with the tears and know that now I am at my favorite place in the world. It feels like home. Now I know we are on vacation!! :cheer2:

I love this thread, especially since I leave in 26 days!!! :woohoo:

For me the anticipation builds to a frenzied pitch when DH and I are at the airport hotel the night before our flight. I turn into that kid at the sleepover that doesn't get any sleep - and doesn't let anyone else sleep! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: By the time we catch the shuttle to the airport at 0-dark-30 (read like military time) I am almost impossible to deal with. And poor DH is not a morning person! :faint:

For me, it's when we get to Orlando (partially) and when we drive through the Welcome to WDW sign!

I dont need an airport, a park, or even a sign. Im ready the night before knowing where Im headed. Not to mention I'm completely useless the day before at work. :badpc:

As others have said, for me it is when we drive under the WDW archway. We all start to whoop and holler and usually tears come to my eyes. Most trips when we are leaving I make it a point to turn back and see the sign fading away from us. Then, I cry.

Aren't we blessed to be able to go to such a heavenly place?

Hi My DD6 just woke up and found me on the boards....Her answer is...When we get to MY resort!!
She's hooked already!!

We just got back a couple of weeks ago. We all commented that until we actually visited the MK, we didn't feel like we were "there yet."
