When do you take Christmas decorations down?

When do you take them down?

I don’t get in a huge hurry since I live alone and they don’t bug me. Usually some time in January. January can be a bleak month, so having a little holiday brightness hanging around helps.

In 2020, when everything shut down, I actually got my wreath back out and hung it up on the wall for the year. Cheered me up immensely. It goes into a wreath storage container fully decorated and with lights, so it is easy to take out and put away.

The other decorations are down. I usually wait until after Epiphany to take down the tree, but then I realized it was silly to wait because I'm not religious anymore. So it will come down tomorrow. I was going to do it today but I got caught up doing other things and didn't get around to it.

I do it in stages. My stages are:

1. Outside porch display, lights and window wreaths. DH does the lights, we do the wreaths together—requires a ladder and I do the porch.

I did the porch today. Too wet to do the rest.

2. Dishes: I have a large set of Christmas dishes that I use from mid November until early January.

3. Village: I have about 50 buildings plus accessories.

4. Indoor trees (2) and other decorations—snow globes, garlands for the mantles, figurines etc. I did all of this today.

I may do the village tomorrow. It will take most of the day. The dishes will just take about an hour so probably one night this week. I will do the outside stuff whenever DH feels like it. He tends to wait for a warmish, dry day.

I would like it to be done by Saturday evening. We have football tickets Sunday so that day is out and we are gone the following weekend. If the outside stuff isn’t done that’s okay, we will just turn it off.

We used to take the tree down on New Years Eve. It was a nice family thing to do that filled in those post bedtime hours. But now I work almost every NYE, so it’s my first weekend off in the new year. Long answer to a short question. It’s down sometime between December 31 and January 15.

We took down outside decorations and everything inside except the tree today. We kept it up so DGS could see it. It has been a crazy year. We went to WDW in early December, DS is a linemen and got called on storm and then I got sick so they weren’t able to come until today. We will take it down one afternoon this week or Saturday.

Ours are all still up, but will come down this week when the kids are back in school. Outside decor will remain, but I might remove the red berries from the pots and leave the pine and greenery through the winter months.

Already? LOL. We just celebrated Christmas TODAY. My daughter got exposed to covid at work 9 days ago........and wanted to wait until she cleared the incubation period without a positive test. We were out of town Tuesday through Saturday so today was the first chance for us to get together.
The 12 days of Christmas run from Christmas on December 25th until the Epiphany on January 6th. So no sooner than January 7th. And I just checked my wife's calendar and she has Sunday January 9th as the day she plans on us taking the decorations down. Not sure what the weather will be, so not sure when the outdoor lights will come down, but I will unplug them.

Normally I leave my tree up for quite sometime but this year with a 1 year old german shephard and a new cat, the poor tree was being thrashed to where I got tired of re-fixing it and the lights. It came down 3 days ago. The outside lights? when this darn rain quits.

We take our down sometime mid Jan. We have a real tree so we have to see how well it holds up. We put our real tree up about a week before Christmas. I have two other trees that are fake those go up beginning of December. I was shocked to see the lot on my Facebook friends take their tree down on the 26th For me that’s kind of sad. Christmas decorations for me is a thing that goes on at least up to New Year’s Eve and until Epiphany. Specially with the bleak weather we’ve been having I plan on having my Christmas tree lights on the entire month of January if my tree holds up. Nothing nicer than sitting on the couch at night with Christmas tree on when the weather sucks

I'm usually lazy and most of the stuff doesn't come down til late January because I'm just too overwhelmed with life in general 🤦🏼‍♀️ this season we have a puppy, got a real tree and are going to Disney Jan 15th and I told DH I'm not coming home to a still decorated house..so we took the tree down on the 28th... I'm slowly working on everything else... outside decor will come down today as the snow has finally melted enough to access the cords

Mine are down. Normally I do it on New Year's Day but didn't get a chance to do it until yesterday...so I was a day late.

I'm ready for spring, warmer weather and more daylight! I will be starting my pansies under grow lights in two weeks.

I thought the 'rule' was before Epiphany on the 6th of January (Topsy Turvy Day :D )
Which is the 12th day after Christmas.
