When do you start your countdown...

We made our countdown calendar today. We used big sheets of poster board and made 2 1/2 inch squares. We saved all of the Mickey Stickers and DVC sticker etc that the CMs hand out at the parks and we have over 200 stickers So with 162 days to go we will place a sticker over yesterday's date each morning. The kids love to have a countdown going. My boys are 12, 10 and 5. I'm sure that they will make a paper chain soon too. It usually is long enough to wrap around a couple of walls in the living room Because we go just about every year and it is always a long vacation they do very well waiting for each trip. They each pick a favorite meal to book and we talk about what we want to do, see well we talk about everything all the time. Yep, we are addicted

We started ours at 40 days. But that seems too long for my DD (4.5 yrs), so next year I'll probably wait till 20 - 25 days.

28 weeks out.

Once a week, the kids slap a Mickey Head on the door, marked with the number of weeks left before our trip. They want to have it covered by the time we leave in July. Once we hit 30 days, the Mickey Heads will count down days.

Of course...they think we're leaving on the 12th....and they'll be getting a big surprise when we wake them up on the 11th and take them to the airport.

We have our trip booked and thought out before we even leave Disney Property.......We are ADDICTS. The ticker starts.. actually it is never ending....

I love the ideas -I hadn't even thought about doing a countdown - now I psyched to do it!

i actually seen one done on jon and kate plus eight, so thats how i got the idea, but we have almost 300 days and there is no way i can do one with that many days, hehehe
my kids are still so young so i don't think they will get the whole concept of how many days are left (5.5yrs,4yrs.3yrs and 5 months)
but i am so excited to attempt a try at this...i bought tons of stickers from ac moores/michaels and i have my poster board and disney font, now i just need to get started

We Made a paper chain and started it last night We leave for our trip on Feb 16th.

Our kids still don't know where we are going so we incorperated that into the chain. On the inside of every link is iether:

A clue

A fake destination to throw them off, followed by a just kidding on the next days link (we like to tease our kids its all good fun and they like it)

An extra chore to do

Wii points (our kids earn we points each point is equal to one min of wii play time they earn the points by doing their chores and good behavior and once the collect 250 points they can bank them for $5.00 for spending cash on our trip. This works really well in our house) for the older two kids an cash for the little guy they will all get the same amount of money in the end.

inbetween all those are letters that once put together spell disneyland. We hope that the older two can put the word puzzle together. after all the letters are given then the answer is given

Then the "sleeps" count down begins starting with 5 more sleeps.

But the valentine's one says happy Valentines day on it lol!

We started this last night and our kids are pretty excited about it.
