when do you start packing clothing?

For us this works best:

-I have a "Master List" on my word program. I simply print and go.
-Toiletries bag is never unpacked (I just replenish what has been used about 2 weeks before vacation)
-Overnight bag about 1 week before
-Balance of clothing/shoes 2 days before
-Day before I, print boarding passes, tidy up the house, pick veges from the garden for friends & family, have some pizza for dinner, take care of a few last minute items, and then relax.

I started packing things pro bout 2 months ago. I have 40 days left. Hahaha. Yep im crazy. This is a surprise trip for my girls. I found the DIS and learned about matching shirts, decorating windows, and alot of planning stuff. I have to pack for four, myself, dbf, our almost 5y, and our almost 2y.

So far i have all of their clothes packed, except two new outfits my mom bought them this week. they are packed in a ziplock for each day labeled with the day and have the undies in there too. I also have all of our shirts packed for the week. Since i mafe so many shirts and they are not something we normally wear i packed them.

In a separate suitcase i have the kids costumes for MNSSHP and the door and window decor. I have all the girls little surprises packed. I also have a box packed of toiletries and glowsticks plus pullups for the 2y, just in case as she is trained, to mail to the resort.

I have their backpacks packed with fun things for the plane and the autograph books i made them.

I still have stuff to do but im glad i got a jumpstart. Im out of town for another week, already been two, and have to finish costumes repack and double check everything. The girls start back to dance when we get home and since this is a surprise for them.i have to do everything at night.

The boys are getting the suitcases out today or tomorrow. I will probably begin packing Wednesday or so. I told the boys to pick out 5 of their best favorite shorts, and 8-9 shirts that match them. Then I will probably go through them and pick what I think they should wear. :rotfl: I plan to have everything packed and ready Thurday, with just the stuff I use in the morning packed that morning.

WE leave Friday!

As here in Michigan its only 75 for a high and in the 50's at night, I have already started packing. Now that its cooler they will not need as much of their summer clothes so we can pack them.

We leave in 19 days but in between that I have a business trip, Labor Day plus the kids start school the week before we leave. They are in 1st and 3rd grades so we are taking them out of school for a week.

For clothes, I plan to choose outfits for each day and then put each outfit in a gallon size ziploc bag.
I'm doing the same thing!!! So much easier...just grab a bag and go!! I have our kids shirts all bagged up but will have to wait till next week to start adding in shorts.

We are missing the first week of school. We leave Sept 1 and school starts the 4th so they will miss 4 days....but what do they really do the first week anyways in Kindergarden and 3rd grade?

I have all of the kids shirts packed and mine and DH clothes bought....But I we are staying at fort wilderness and I still have a camper to pack too!!!:scared:

I start a week before to get things put on the side and about a couple days before I start to actually put them in the luggage. The last time I waited till the day before and day of, I forgot A LOT of stuff!! LOL!

I start packing the clothes about two weeks before. The toiletries, phones, chargers, and camera I throw in the night before.

We leave in 19 days, and while i have been picking up stuff here n there and pretty much have everything we need....i still feel like im waiting to the last minute to pack everyones clothes....and its driving me crazy lol i wanna be all set NOW

I am usually able to pack early because we go in October so we don't need our summer clothes at home any more and as they get washed for the last time, I just start throwing them into the suitcase instead of packing them away. However, we are now 42 days away from our trip, we still need our summer clothes right now and it is driving me crazy that I can't get the bulk of the packing done!! With 2 kids in school, both playing football, and one also playing lacrosse, and my oldest son's birthday just before we leave, I would really love to get this "to do" item knocked off the list! We have started buying the travel bottles of bath items, snacks, etc. I love packing early - makes things much less stressful the week before we leave!!

I like the ziplock bag for the kids clothing....so they have an outfit in each bag. We have matching shirts for each day except DTD and arrival day/check out day. I'll have to figure out how to make the ziplock thing work, for just their shorts/socks and for the girls hairbows...etc. All our shirts are on hangers, but I like to have matching shorts (khaki for AK day....etc).

Thanks for sharing!

I would say about about a month to a week beforehand I do a mental check of things we need and see if we have everything. We as a family don't have a ton of clothes because I hate having heaps of laundry. So I generally have a pretty good idea of what we have set to pack. About once a month I sort out clothes that are too small or too worn and replace as needed, so I don't think we're in for huge surprises. But I do a quick fit-check for everyone - are shoes the right size? Bathing suits? Then I save actual packing for the night before.

I have already started to set toiletries aside but I will start working on putting DD's outfits in to ziplock bags next week when school starts. I will pack our clothes the week that we are leaving and have those packed the Friday before our trip so we can have the suitcase weighed..can't afford and overage charge!

We are not going until November, but I am already "collecting" things for our trip. I got DD a cute Minnie shirt at Target and a smocked princess top!! I will probably start packing 2 weeks before our trip and while the kids are at school because the trip will be a surprise!

I also like to collect and set aside things sometimes several months in advance if I know they will be used during the trip; or if I find cute Disney shirts, accessories, etc. that one of us could wear/use while on the trip I will pack those away in advance just for the trip too. I first make my lists of things we need to pack and things we need to buy for the trip about a couple months in advance. For a week long WDW trip, I like to give myself at least two weeks to pack the suitcases and travel bags so that I can make sure I have everything accounted for. Most people probably don't need that much time to pack, but in addition to packing for myself, I'm the designated vacation packer for my four kids and my DH too :crazy2:

I'm 2 weeks out and wondering why on earth I'm so far behind - I haven't even started packing yet. Normally I start putting aside clothes about 3 weeks out to make sure we have neough (our kids seem to have a knack for destroying their clothes so I confiscate the ones I want with us:rotfl2:).

About 2 weeks out I do an inventory to see if we have everythign we need - and make sure I don't have last minute purchases to make. 1 week out I make a list of everything that has to come with us and which bag it'll go into. Then I pack them 1 bag/day until everythings packed. The exception being our carry ons - the carry ons I pack 2 days before for everything except travel documents and electronics. The electronics the day before and the night before the documents. It's a bit of a long process, but I am a worry wart and need to be sure everything is just so. I need to have room to bring everything home :cool1:

I am a bit crazy when it comes to packing clothes. I want them to all be nice outfits that match so I start washing and setting aside certain outfits about a week ahead of time. We are going in October though so it will be a bit easier as we most likely won't be wearing shorts around here at that time so I can pack all of their shorts.

Wanna hear how crazy I am though - last time we went to Disney I made matching hairbows for my daughter to go with every one of her outfits! It was so fun! But don't think I will be doing that again this time!

Jennifer :)

last mintue things I do as done with them in the batroom at home and the clothes I pack several days before as to me they only wrinkle once...so like to get them done so they settle in the suitcase and pack down better I think..

We are going in Oct and I have been putting things aside a little bit at a time but I don't think I will do the major packing until after we are done with summer clothes here in NY. Count down chain says 59 days!

I travel a lot, only have to pack for myself, and know what I am going to need, so I usually start packing an hour or two before leaving for the airport.
