When do you pay for excursions?

Tonight at midnight we can book our excursions... My question is do you pre-pay when you do the online booking tonight or does the fee's go onto your room account and pay later?

It goes to your shipboard account and you pay onboard. Also if you decide that you need to cancel the port adventure you must do it 3 days prior to sailing. You can cancel online.

We get to book as well tonight, hence we are going on the same cruise. We are also from NJ (Smithville to be exact). Can't wait to get up at 3:00 to do the online check-in and then get up for the day at 5:45! :yay:

Are you doing the April 7th Fantasy? We can't wait to start booking in an hour

You settle your account on the last night. You can pay cash or let it all go on your credit card on file. You will get a statement of account by the morning of debarcation just like a hotel.

Yes, April 7th. I am online right now, and disapointed that we could not get the Palo brunch, guess I will have to check once we get on board. As for port adventures, we are pretty much doing everything on our own or through another company. Disney is really strict with their age limits, most are 5 an up, and we have a 3 year old, so going out of Disney is our only choice if we want to do something. Good luck :)

We have trip insurance through DCL, if we have to cancel our February trip because of weather would we not have to pay for the shore excursions either? Are they covered with trip insurance?

They are not charged until day 1 of the cruise. So if you cancel before then, there is zero to be refunded for excursions.

edit: @PrincessShmoo and I post at the same time again!

Although they aren't charged until you are onboard, I thought we were told you had to cancel them three days PRIOR to sailing. Thus, without trip insurance, you'd be on the hook for them if you cancelled last minute (which was a real possibility for our group).

Yes, you must cancel an excursion 3 days prior to a cruise. But, since they aren't actually charged until you're onboard, I still think, if a cruise is outright cancelled, that would cancel any pending reservations (not paid for).

I guess we interpreted the PP question differently. I thought they were asking if THEY (the poster) canceled their trip due to weather, couldn't get to the airport, or something like that. I agree if DCL cancels the cruise due to weather, the poster wouldn't have to pay, but I think that if the poster doesn't show up and the cruise still happens, they would need to pay for the excursions anyway, and thus would need trip insurance to avoid paying it themselves. I don't know if DCL Trip Insurance covers this type of claim or not.

Just be aware of your coverage -- it's pretty rare that you can cancel your cruise due to weather unless DCL actually cancels it. Unless you purchased your airfare through DCL, any changes or cancellations related to flights will not be covered, and as such I don't believe you can use flight delay/canceled as a reason to cancel your cruise. It's a tangled web of interactions, and trying to figure out what is covered vs what is not can be tricky.

DCL insurance does have the "bonus" of a credit towards a future cruise if the insurance denies your claim. I believe that's just 70% credit and must be used within a specified timeframe (maybe 1 year).

Good question about the insurance and excursions... but since the excursions are not actually charged until you are onboard, if you cancel the cruise (not a no-show, but cancel) there should be no onboard account and therefore you cannot be charged for the excursions. Not something I'd want to test out.

Here's hoping for good weather so this is all moot...enjoy your cruise!
