When do you have time/energy to exercise........Seriously?!

I know I keep coming up with "excuses" but they're not really. I do want to lose weight. That is my main goal.

The gym that I used to belong to had childcare for over 1 year old. DD is only 6 months. There are no nearby gyms that take babies. I also felt so guilty because I would go afterwork, pick up the girls from daycare and take them to the gym daycare while I worked out.

I don't think you are coming up with excuses. I think they are all valid reasons. I've been there. I remember joining a gym when my kids were young and I just never used it. I felt that they were in daycare so long that I just couldn't pick them up, only to turn them over to another daycare place. At some point, you gotta come home and have some family time.

I know a lot of people exercise in the morning and I think that's great if you have one of those "normal" jobs. I could never do it because I have to be in D.C. by 6:30 a.m. On top of that, it is my "job" to get the kids to their two different places in the morning--hence, I get up at 4:30 just to start my day. I absolutely cannot fathom getting up at 3:30 so I can exercise. That's the bloody middle of the night!!!

I've had my treadmill since December and I can't believe I took so long to get it. It has been a real timesaver for me.

Wow! I can't remember the last time I slept in until 6:15! If you're looking for sympathy on your busy schedule from me, I don't have it!!! Just kidding, LOL. I get up at 4:00 a.m. to fit my workout in. I have a home gym and am running on the treadmill by 4:15 a.m. I have done this since my son was born. Sleeping in until 6:00 sounds like a luxury! You have two hours in the morning that you can fit in. I workout until 5:30, and then have time for a quiet cup of coffee, paper, tv, until 6:15 when I shower.

Just revisiting this thread .. I just got back picking up my kids while pushing my 2 littler one's in a stroller.

I was just thinking...if we can make time to DIS then we can make time to take care of ourselves. Here's to good health! :goodvibes

See, I have read/heard that in order for exercising to be effective, you have to do Cardio for at least 20-30 min and work up a sweat. That leaves out lunchtime, I can't come back to work funky!!!

Do you have good open space in your house where you could pop in an exercise DVD and use that? There are a lot of good workout CDs on the market and some that have intervals, or workouts in 20 minute increments for busy moms. When my kids were your kids age, I had a step at home and I worked out to step videos, plus I had an indoor recumbent bicycle and free weights. All of those can provide a great workout, and you don't have to leave the comfort of your home. Jump ropes are great too, but they are high impact. A lot of times you can find good deals on slightly used exercise equipment at garage sales.

I just noticed that you posted about an exercise ball and bands. That is a great way to exercise because you actually have to work your core and stabilizing muscles harder. Denise Austin has a great stability ball exercise book on the market.

Good luck to you.

Heck, I don't "make the time" to DIS. I do it while I'm at work (usually when I'm on the phone or doing some really boring stuff). ;)

It is a matter of priority and balance. Your life is hectic. It's so hard taking care of the young ones and it sounds like you're doing most of it. Can your husband give up either mornings or evenings at the gym so that you can fit a workout into your day?
I do mine from 6-7AM, at home, to Denise Austin on Lifetime channel. I hate having the pressure of going to the gym just because I paid for it. I also tape some of her shows so that I can do them on the weekend.
During her morning workouts, she says to continue exercising during the commercials, but, I usually run into the kitchen and start to set up my daughter's lunch then run back to the TV as the shows coming back on.
I can't tell you how good it feels to do this workout. There's a little yoga, pilates, kick-boxing. It's a mild workout but enough to keep a person in shape. FYI, my kids are 10 and 14 so I have no baby care to also tend to. I know it's hard to work out at home when you have a baby.
Good luck to you.

I go to the gym 5 days a week in the morning and I rarely skip. If I do, I make the day up. I also walk a few nights a week with DH when the weather is nice. I enjoy working out and staying fit and healthy.

My advice to you TIFF, is maybe you will just have to WAIT....I had the exact same schedule as you did (only 2 kids) and my DH traveled and was gone much of the week...so it was just me for the most part.

I COULD NOT fit that in...sorry to say...I needed to sleep to at least 6am...that was MOST days....for me to get up any earlier to workout was NOT happening....with that said...TIME FLIES...(my boys are off to college now) and when they were at an age I was not doing for them, I started BACK to working out...OH, ya, it was ALWAYS in the back of my mind. You cannot turn on a TV with out some one discussing weight and exercise and the latest diet...so I always knew I would get back to that....in the meantime, I watched what I ate...(that was the least I could).

Before you know it my boys are self-sufficient and I NOW and HAVE BEEN for years working out 5 days a week sometimes 7 days and for 90 minutes. Yup, early in the AM.

Good Luck to you, whatever PATH you end up taking.... :wave2:

I dont have time either......its alot of work but fitting in ten minutes while I cook supper is good or when I am getting the kids into another activity
my diabetic educator said to do three ten minute standing in place march.....the kids love it and I can do it when ever I want......high kicking march is all you need and stand in front of the stove or sink or whatever.....
