When did they start allowing flash photography on rides?

See, this is the problem with these threads in general, why did you need to embarass them so bad? Between flashing pictures in peoples faces, threatening with squirt guns, and embarassing people... you want to know what I think? That many people on here feel that if someone is rude to them first, they have the right to be just as rude if not more rude to that person. Why do people feel the right to possibly ruin someone's vacation because of a flash picture?? I guess I just don't understand and I never will!!

And as far as the sezure thing, I totally understand that, ok - but you flashing a photo in someone else's face - what if THEY had a seizure problem that you were unaware of???????????? So you trying to teach them a lesson could in fact harm them more than you think.

First. Sarcasm.

Second. I never mentioned Flashing someone in their face.

Third. If it's disrupting the show/ride/event/whatever. I will say something.

Fourth. I'm not going to bewilder someone for the sake of bewilderment. I wouldn't say something unless it had any validity. Too many people stand by and let others ruin an experience. I'm not one to shy away from making my voice heard, but I will do it respectfully and politely. If it continues then I may get more firm in my wording.

Last. Flash Photography = No.

that is all.:)

If I have that problem of people going bananas with their flashes on my AUG trip, I will ask to re-ride, we are bringing a first timer and I want her trip to be amazing. She just turned 18 and is my son's girlfriend and I am bringing him and her to Disney.
As for the idea of telling people to ride it late at night or during EMH , SHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...lol..that's the only chance I have for a FLASH FREE ride! lol.......;)

The only real problem with that is, what do you do if your second ride is the same experience?:confused3

This is one of those discussions that goes round and round and round again... I never usually post in one but here goes...

Not saying I do one or the other, just playing out the opposite side here...

When you are loading a vehicle, are you usually standing there perfectly silent, listening to every word the CM says, or are you talking with your family, tending to your child, etc? Probably the latter, most folks are involved in their own conversations and have no clue that the CM is saying anything to them. Especially if you are in a large group, you might be talking about where you are going to eat next, or what ride you want to get on, or you might be calling the rest of your family on the cell phone to find out where they are, and when to meet up. OK, lots of distractions, people can and do easily miss the announcements made by CM's.

Think back to your first trip, if you had not used the disboards - our first trip was in the 80's when there wasn't even internet - and you were unaware of the "rules" regarding flash photography, so you want to make a good photo album of everything you did. Now you have some person in your face yelling about no flash photography - in my mind I would think, hey, your not a CM, your just some guy on vacation, why are you trying to boss me around??

If people are unaware of the rules, how can you blame them for doing something?? I have heard so many people on rides get beligerent at others regarding the no flash photography thing, that the people taking the pics first become defensive, and then defiant.

So, IMHO, if the flash photo thing bothers you, please talk nicely to the person doing it. I really hope the water gun thing on here was a joke, because squirting someone in the face with a water gun is FAR MORE rude than a few flash picures, for real.

And please remember too, that you may have the luxury of going back to WDW year after year after year. Try to remember, the people taking the flash pictures, it may be the only time in their entire life that they may get to WDW.

Is a few flashes in my eyes going to ruin my trip? No way! I'm on vacation, nothing can bother me that much! :goodvibes
This post just baffles me.

There is no valid excuse for breaking posted, recorded and verbally spoken rules. The rest of the people on the ride should not have to suffer because of others selfishness.

It may not ruin my trip but it sure as heck ruins the ride I just waited patiently to see and enjoy.

Agree with all of this, and I'm glad you guys reminded me to get a good squirt gun for the August trip as well.

I have always heard the CM say refrain from taking any flash photos, BUT:confused3n you those few people that choose to ignore it...try this next time--->:duck:.....:lmao::lmao::lmao: that will get there attention

Until Disney enforces the rules that they make, the rules will always be broken. It's very simple, enforce the rules. But then again, we don't even enforce our own laws. Must be something in the water.:surfweb:

The problem is two-fold:

1) People in general are pushier and less likely to follow rules any more. Didn't you guys get the memo????? We figured this out in little league: RULES ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THEM!!! :lmao: (Note: We DO!) and

2) Disney had a couple of rounds of big layoffs when the economy tanked. It's much harder to enforce rules when you have a whole other job to do and no backup.

This is not really true. Witness dueling in the South in the 1800's and Prohibition in the 1920s. Consider marijuana use right now. If enough people in the society approve of something, all the laws in the world won't bring it to a halt. If something is socially approved and many people do it, then hiking the punishments doesn't have much impact, because so many people do the illegal thing without getting punished.

It was only when dueling became socially condemned that it ended. Many people care a lot more about what other people think than they do about the rules - that's why reminding someone of the rules results in them obeying the rules so often. They may have known the rule, but they assumed everyone else thought the rule was stupid just as they did. When they're shown that most people don't agree with them, then they obey the rule. (That's also why people in a pack of like-minded jerks are less likely to behave - they've brought their own supportive society with them. :p )

Disney doesn't have enough employees to enforce the rules. But if enough visitors speak up in favor of the rules, the rules will be in force. Bullies always assume the silent agree with them.

Why do people feel the right to possibly ruin someone's vacation because of a flash picture?? I guess I just don't understand and I never will!!

I guess for the same reason that the person taking the flash picture feels they have the right to ruin the ride experience for everyone else:confused3.

The other people on the ride paid as much to be there as the person snapping pictures. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Get your pictures off the internet.

I believe my first trip was 1978 (I was 18) with my mom and 12 yr. old brother. Now me and my brother were anything but rude. My mom raised us right and would NEVER think of doing something to be disrespectful or ruin someones vacation. With the exception of laughing fits on the bus going to Disney (my brother would do the flatulent sound (lowly) and say "Oh Lorri"!, yes I was 18 but he had a way of reducing me to his age when we were together!). He still makes me laugh to this day. Anyway I digress. We went on most of the rides together (without my mom) and I REALLY did not know it was against the rules or bothering anyone. Yes I am sure alot will say at 18 I SHOULD have known but I guess I was not paying attention and was just to excited. The thought the flash would bother others (I do not ever remember turning in anyones direction to do it. Always to my side) never occured to me.
I would never do it now or in ANY of my adult years but I have to confess I did it that trip. Now when I look at those photos I am only going to think how many people WANTED TO KILL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1:

You're a nice person-most of these dopes who take flash pictures on rides are not.You shouldn't feel like to have to justify your aggravation with people breaking the rule..most know about it, they just choose not to follow it. At that point, I don't care if they're embarrassed or not. They SHOULD be embarrassed-stupid behavior has consequences.:confused3:sad2:

And I was not joking about using the flash in the face method, BTW.;)

I'm sorry - I don't take flash photos in rides when it is against the "rules", but I do NOT agree with the statement that you are not nice if you do it. It really doesn't come down to being nice or not. To many people here, it seems like common sense, but I'll be honest in that I never thought about it much until I started reading these boards. I just didn't do it if it was against the rules.

I listen for the announcements (to try and keep track of whether or not vidoetaping is OK), but they aren't always easy to hear. If English is not your first language, I can further understand confusion. As for common sense, yes, hearing the arguments about it I can understand how it seems to be common sense to people here but I'm not sure that it really IS "common" sense to many people.

Does it make it "right" - no, I don't think so. But I guess some of the tactics mentioned for curbing it don't seem so right to me either.

And please remember too, that you may have the luxury of going back to WDW year after year after year. Try to remember, the people taking the flash pictures, it may be the only time in their entire life that they may get to WDW.

This right here is what is wrong with America. Not my problem if you don't have the means or the desire to go back to WDW repeatedly. The rules are the rules for EVERYBODY.

Try to remember, the people taking the flash pictures, it may be the only time in their entire life that they may get to WDW.

But what about the people on the dark ride with the person taking the flash pictures who are at WDW for their lifetime trip as well? The people I've known who felt they could only afford WDW one time, didn't take two weeks to do it, either, so odds are good they won't feel they have the time to go back on that ride for a second chance. Especially if they figure it's just as likely they'll have someone blinding them that second time through as the first.

If someone does not know the rules or is ignoring the rules, there's nothing wrong with telling them they're out of line. There's no reason that being told, "What you're doing is against the rules" will "ruin someone's vacation" unless that person is bound and determined to break the rules and doesn't like being called on it. I believe most people prefer to be courteous and would rather be told the rules than continue to break them (and thus offend people) in ignorance.

I can't say that I've had to deal with much in the way of flash photography on rides, personally. Just here and there. Never ruined a ride..although, I'd be a little miffed if that person flashed right in my face. My old camera (and now my new dslr) has a little light that shines on the subject even when the flash is disabled. It took me a few times to realize...and I would cover it up with my finger before I'd take the picture. The lsd screen is super bright too...so I'd hold that against myself when I wasn't taking a picture, just to be courteous.

I have taken flash pictures...but only once or twice, and during a stopped moment at the VERY end of POTC. However, no one else was in our boat, and we were stopped for 5 minutes...and in full view of the CM, who never said a word about the flash photography. I did make mention of the rule to a good friend of mine...who honestly had no idea that she wasn't supposed to use her flash..so it's possible that the guests don't always hear the rules.

I believe luvthemouse was saying that I was being nice by not flashing my camera in their face and not going on and on to the offender, not about whether its nice or not to use photography....?????
Anyways, it doesn't ruin a ride if there's one person doing it but when lately 3-4 families are doing it, it's like being at a red carpet event.
I was thinking about the "can I get a second ride" idea....the boats go through a tunnel and there is no clearance for someone sitting up, so you would have to get off the boat and I think go all the way around to the line again, so that won't really work,lol...plus the times Ive gone there is less than a 5 minute wait so it would be pointless.
I DO THINK that if you sit in the front row, it would be less irritating and I also think the more of us that say "Can you remind the people there is no flash photography." then MAYBE? they will get the idea???:confused3

I lol'd about the "red carpet" comment. I think that asking the Cm to reiterate the rules is a good thing....but there are always going to be those people that think they are exempt, kwim?

The worst is when it was done On Soarin last trip. It was so friggin annoying
that I was sitting in the right side and the flash came from the left. I swear to
god when they were doing it the flash from their camera literally bounced
aross the screen and glowed the screen that it really did interfere with my
ride and I am sure everyone elses..they did it throughout the ride time, didnt stop

If this were my only chance of riding it, say my last day in disney as well as
a person who would not return to disney for a long time I would be soo mad and totally agree
with lovethemouse and go a little further to dream of taking this person off the ride and speaking to them how they just ruined it and that their wasting time anyways
cause the photos arent going to come out..

I have been on other rides with the flash problem, but you havent experienced
problems like that on soarin...On Soarin its magnified to annoyance.

larry-can we substitute mug reusers with pool hoppers, because Im guilty of reusing my mug 2 weeks ago, I had been 12 weeks before that. So I don't want my pic on that site!!! lol :lmao:

Tiggergirl, I have to say that I have agreed with you on every post in this thread up to this point. Seriously, you get to just pick the rules you want to follow? :confused3 Granted, reusing resort mugs doesn't affect anyone else's vacation, but I kinda think rules are rules and you either follow them (out of respect for WDW) or you don't. Perhaps another example of "rules are for the other guy, not for me" ?

:rolleyes:Wendy3- Not that I need to explain it but I'm going to. Out of respect for WDW??? Seriously? I spent 10 days at 4 deluxe resorts (see my thread about comforter cleanliness on the resort board). I really dont think you want to go into the "respect thing" ,lol. If WDW respected me as a guest, they wouldnt have had food and blood on the comforters on 2 of the 4 deluxe resorts I was at. Proof that all the resorts do NOT change the comforters after each guest stay, gross I know.
Yes I reused my mug but seeing as I stayed Club at 2 of the resorts, I only used it 2 times, so calm down.
If my reusing my mug DID affect other visitor's enjoyment then I wouldn't do it but please don't lecture me about "out of respect to WDW", after what I saw on my last trip.
That just cracks me up,lol.:lmao:
