When Did I get Voted Off of Skinny Island #2: Castaway's Land Ho!!!!

I am okay with either weigh in as well....and maybe Heather we can help one another doing it - some times I just can't and there may be times you cannot as well! I loved the fact you offered!!! :goodvibes

I did curves about 9 years ago until I became pregnant with my youngest. I quit going when my belly was too big!

I thought it was ok - the thing I liked the best about it was that I would go over my lunch hour and get it done then. They had a small dressing room area where you could change clothes. Then you could get the routine done in 40 minutes or so, do the cool down and change back into your work clothes. The bad thing about it is that I'm not sure how much good it does. I honestly never worked up a sweat - but at least it gets you moving.

Another good thing about it was that the same people tended to be there every day, so if you missed a day (or two), someone would ask about you. It was kind of another way to hold yourself accountable.

After our son was born, we (DH and I) decided to join the local gym. It really wasn't a lot more for a family membership there than what I was paying for Curves. I feel that we got a lot more bang for our buck there, because we could do all the cardio equipment, weight training, aerobic classes and use the pool as much as we wanted. But, I know that's not always an option for everyone.

I just came back from my first Curves workout and I don't think I'll be going back. The equipment doesn't use weights, but relies on hydraulics to provide resistance. I don't consider 45 minutes of exercise well spent unless I'm sweating and has burned at least 300 calories or more. I think the circuit will be very boring after a couple weeks as well. Besides, I felt a bit out of place with everyone else there about my mom's age or older.

Of course you can join us! The part I bolded above really struck a nerve with me. I was wondering the same thing over Christmas - I took a few days to pack on 3 pounds, yet it'll probably take me another month to get it back off. It's just not fair! I've heard of Curves but haven't tried them. Most of the ones around here closed up quite a while ago and I didn't even know they were still around.

 It's like our bodies are determined to self-destruct or something, it's a conspiracy I tell ya! Like I said earlier, I don't think Curves is right for me. But I can see someone who would like a milder, gentler approach to getting in shape being a great candidate for their program. I think my level of fitness has exceeded what they can offer. Last week I was able to run 3 miles under 28 minutes, which I haven't done since my Air Force days a decade ago, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Ok - scanned the past 5 pages and it brought me back to November so I am feeling better and worse!!! :lmao:

Heather - if you want to take over weight posts....THAT IS Awesome!!!! :worship: (Seriously....pm me and I can send you the originals for everyone still wanting to post so you have their starting for full credit!!!)

Did we pick a day to send in weights???

It was nice to see you guys noticed I was AWOL...I think I need that cone of shame right about now! :rotfl2:

I will still send out a come on back reminder to everyone...we can all use the boost!

I am actually feeling excited to be back and looking forward to all the success for each of us. What I will do is revamp the first post with names and the weight pics and post a link here over the weekend when I hear back from who wants to re-join or any new blood we get!!!

It was awesome reading so many new posts from alumni...I feel blessed this is a place so many still feel the need to turn back to when they are ready. Each of you here is such a gift.:grouphug:

Cone of shame! LOL, great visual! :lmao: Maybe I should make one and wear it every time I sneak a cookie or brownie from the pastry tray in the conference room.

I'm fine with any day to do the weigh ins. My weight haven't really changed in the last 5 months. I wouldn't mind shedding another 10 pounds or so, but there are so many other factors besides weight that affect our overall health. In my case, I'm more interested in my A1C score and cholesterol numbers these days. How many of you know your recent cholesterol or blood sugar numbers? Sometimes these numbers will tell you a lot more about yourself than what your scale says.

So, I got on the scale this morning for a quick check in and it said I had gained 7 pounds this week!:scared1::scared1::scared1: WHAT?????? Needless to say, I was not happy and threatened to throw the scale against the wall. I took a moment to breathe and remind myself that A) I probably didn't really gain 7 pounds in 4 days and B) this is a marathon, not a sprint. I will fail at points along this journey. Deep breath, deep breath.

Ok, that's my morning rant/wisdom. I now have to go do about 14 interviews today looking for 1 or 2 assistants for the summer. Wish me luck!

Dawn's back!!!! :dance3::cheer2: Darlin' we missed you around here! You are just so inspirational to so many people and I bet you don't even know that. You're real, dealing with real-life stuff, and I'm sorry that those things got you down. But you're back and that makes me :)

I'm flexible on what days we weigh in. Either one is fine with me. My WW weigh-in day is Sunday so that alone will keep me from pigging out on the weekends.

I'm excited to see everyone jumping back on board the raft. Let's get this thread moving and start paddling our way to skinny island!!!

I made 2 of my goals yesterday - I got my water in and I got to the gym. While on the treadmill, I set a reward system for myself for the next month and a half. If I get to the gym an average of 3 times a week until my Disney trip - I get a charm for my bracelet. If I get there an average of 4 times a week - I get another charm. If I can get up to 2 miles in a half hour - charm. And the reaching goal - If I can get up to 2.5 miles in a half hour - yet another charm. I set the "average" of 3 and 4 times a week because I know there will be some weeks I will go more often and some weeks I will go less. So, if I just count up the number of workouts I need and make a chart and cross them off as I do them, I'll get there. I'm really pushing myself so I can get 4 new charms while I am down in Disney.

I also need to find some new recipe inspiration. I'm tired of eating the same old thing. The problem is that I'm not very adventurous in my eating so I get stuck in a rut. However, I got a new grill/griddle pan for Christmas so maybe I can start thinking of some new ways to do chicken and lean meats.

Ok guys. Let's keep this thread going and get our butts to skinny island!!!

Boy do I agree with you on the recipes. I find myself making the same things over and over again because I just don't feel like figuring out how many points are in things. I find myself adding one or two recipes a week and that has helped. This week I made chicken and dumplings and the point count wasn't too bad and the family really liked it (something that doesn't always happen), so that will go on the do-over list.

I've got one picky eater in the family, my oldest DS. This kid just has it in his brain that he does not like most foods. It is so FRUSTRATING trying to find stuff this kid likes. Last week I made a spinich-stuffed meatloaf. Now I really dislike cooked spinich AND meatloaf, but this was not bad. But he made such a fuss when eating it I don't know if I'll ever make it again.

Enough of my tangent.... I love your reward ideas. You'll have to keep us posted on how many charms you've earned. And then of course show us what you get ;)

OK, I'm back to planning our Disneyland trip. :woohoo:

Great wisdom!

Good luck with the interviews!

Dawn's back!!!! This week I made chicken and dumplings and the point count wasn't too bad and the family really liked it (something that doesn't always happen), so that will go on the do-over list.

If you get time, could you post this recipe? My family loves chicken and dumplings, but the recipe I make is not very point friendly. I'd love to find a version that is better for you.

I'd love the chicken and dumpling receipe too. I  dumplings. In my family, it is a tradition to have a roast and dumplings. I don't think it's very point friendly so I don't get it often.

We should maybe start sharing some recipes here. I just finished off a pot of chicken rice soup that I think was pretty good point/calorie wise. Probably had more sodium than it should though which could be a reason for the 7 pound gain. We'll see. I'm really motivated to get to the gym tonight though. Between the extra pounds and the thought of a charm - the treadmill is SCREAMING my name.

It's so good to see us getting back together again. Dawn - glad your back and hope that things calm down for you.

I seem to do better with later in the week weigh ins so my choice would be Friday, but I can do either.

Last night I decided not to hop on the computer and that was a mistake. I just slipped back into cruising the kitchen. Pretzels, ice cream, apple, two pieces of rocky road fudge. I guess this is teaching me that if I'm not tracking it, it goes so much easier into the mouth.

I just took a break from responding and went and logged in my food today on SP. I haven't been tracking since October and just kept finding excuses not to do it. I'm feeling much better, now I've got to go get my pitcher of water refilled so I can start pounding down the glasses!

Well, this didn't have "real" dumplings. The recipe I used actually calls for tortillas instead of dumplings, but I just substituted frozen dinner rolls for the tortillas. To be honest, I don't know how to make real dumplings anyway. Enough with the disclaimers, here's the recipe:

2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
10 cups water
3 celery ribs, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons chicken boullion
1 can (10 oz) Healthy Request Cream of Chicken soup
12 Rhoades dinner rolls (I cut into quarters but next time I'd make them smaller, maybe cut each into 6 pieces)

1) In a very large pot, place chicken breasts, water, celery and onion. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and cook for about 30 minutes or until chicken is tender. Remove chicken and set aside to cool.
2) Reserve broth in pot (you should have about 9 cups).
3) Add chicken boullion and taste to make sure it is rich and tasty. Add more boullion if needed and more water if you don't have 9 cups of broth.
4) When chicken is cool enough, cut into bite-size pieces and set aside.
5) Add soup to broth and bring to a boil.
6) Add pieces of bread, one at a time, to briskly boiling broth mixture and stir constantly.
7) When all dumplings have been added, spoon chicken into pot and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring well but gently, to prevent dumplings from sticking.

Total points for the entire pot is 61 points. I estimated 8 servings, so it came out to 8 points each. But I think it really serves more than 8 people, at least we still have a lot left over.

7 pounds...I know that feeling. I bet you'll be back down in a day or so. Scales should be banned:scared1:

Agreed about the cholesterol #s. I do know mine...super high, unless I'm on meds, which have weird side effects on me (left side goes numb!!) So do I have lower cholesterol or have feeling in my left side...hmmmm decisions, decisions. THAT is why I'm on this thread! side note - my mom is a stick figure and has high C too. I think I'm one of those genetic ones with or without weight, but I gotta give this a go too. Must lose weight!!

recipes - check out www.allrecipes.com. Easy to navigate and tons of recipes from home cooks.:thumbsup2

hi Dawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

weign ins: I will go with the majority here. I can see benefits to either M or F.

Happy weekend all! Stay busy and remember what Jill Zarin's mom told her about weight loss. "Close your mouth" :rotfl2: yes, I'm a Housewives show junkie!

Good morning Castaways!

I just finished logging in yesterdays intake. Not too awful. I was over my range in calories by about 100. But at least I tracked. baby steps for me. So far I'm down 1 lb from when I weighed myself on New Years Day so I'm feeling good. I just have to control my evening munching.

I have a huge list of chores to do this weekend and I really just want to sit in front of the TV or computer and veggitate. Getting back to work this week really took a lot of energy. I'm trying to not be stressed out, (sorry if I've already told this story here) but the huge meeting that we normally plan for the end of the month was taken away from my group and the EA for the sales group is using it as a "learning experience". We've been given some really minor parts to work on (nametags, room sets, etc) but if the EA is able to pull off the meeting without us, I'm worried that they might decide they don't need meeting planners (that don't plan meetings). I need to update my resume just in case. Luckily the company is paying to send me to a certification class that I would need if I have to go out looking for another job.

One of the items on my list is to figure out our menu for the week. I have this Fast and Healthy Cookbook and we've been trying out a couple of new recipes a week. We really loved the Chicken and Spinach Calzones, in fact we made them again just last week. The stuffing was really tasty. I'll try and post the recipe later today or tomorrow (along with my edits).

Ok, I better get moving or the whole day will be gone before I know it.

Helloooooooo friends!!

Did you all miss me while I was gone??

I had a GREAT trip and I'll be doing a TR so if anyone is interested you're more than welcome to saunter over there once I have the link posted in my signature (we got back at 11 pm last night so I haven't started the actual TR yet!!)

I thought I did okay food wise while on the trip. I practiced portion control and self control and didn't snack hardly at all in between meals but I still managed to see a hefty gain. :confused3

As of this morning, I'm up 9.8 pounds since December 18th but I'm expecting that to come down some by Monday's weigh in. I'm actually way under my points for today so far but I haven't really had much of an appetite so I figured listening to my body for a change (instead of our ADR schedule) :rotfl: would be a good idea. Today is the first day of a new tracking week for me so I'm jumping in with both feet.

I think everyone who has posted their New Year goals have quite reasonable ones and I am here to cheer you on to victory!

I'm fine with Heather subbing for Dawn until we hear from her again. I'll send you my stats on Monday!!

Have a great weekend folks...I'll talk to you then!!

:thumbsup2

Okay...there! So, I just read everything I had missed (posted the last post without catching up) and I am....

SO EXCITED THAT DAWN'S BACK

and also

confused as to when we are reporting and whom we are reporting to. :lmao::lmao:

Anyway...I'm currently downloading the 594 pictures/videos from DH's smartphone (my camera batteries were dying the whole trip and I forgot the charger so I only managed to get 52 pics and they're all done) so I thought I'd catch up and post again on here.

I'm going to put up a disclaimer here...we got some SERIOUS food porn pics on this trip...AND I sampled a TON of popular tasty bits (Dole Whip etc), so if you're struggling to stay on the raft...you might want to wait on reading my TR!!

:rotfl2:

I'm going to begin again with my weigh in from today. I like the idea of a fresh start for a fresh year and although I'm higher than I'd hoped to be at this point (I was prepared to gain about 3 lbs on vacation so the 9.8 pound gain really hurt!!) I think I'd like to approach my weight loss this way.

Rats!! :headache: I just realized that would mean losing my siggie pic...and I  that pic...although I guess I no longer deserve that one anymore anyway, so...

So, I'll be waiting for further instructions on the whole reporting process for 2011 but until then...

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!

Welcome Back Julie!!! I hope you had a fun trip and I will be reading your TR, food pics or not!!!
I've still struggled the last couple days with my eating, BUT,

Today I went snowshoeing and walking out in the snow and built a snow fort. It was about 10 degrees out. It was for an event with my daughter's girl scout troop. So that's some exercise at least!!!

Breakfast:
coffee w/ sugar and creamer
2 pieces WW toast w/ Peanut butter

Lunch:
Granola bar
Turkey/ham/roasted red pepper sandwich on WW bread
Greek yogurt

Snack:
trail mix/ M&Ms/ pretzels
cocoa

Dinner:
chicken
Rice
stuffing
salad
dessert bar (made w/ splenda)
some kind of crispy Pepperidge Farm cookie
iced tea (crystal light)

Wouldn't have been so bad but for the snack mix and dessert at dinner.
That's the first time I've tracked in MONTHS! I didn't even write it down.

Julie - I'm not sure either if it is me or Dawn that you are to send your weight to. I PM'd her but haven't heard back. Also on your weight gain, this was your first time flying to Disney right? Give it a couple days, you hold onto a tonne of water after flying so that gain in probably over inflated. Hopefully that is good news for you.

Was really struggling up till today. Just didn't want to cook, just wanted someone to serve me so we have been eating dinner out quite a bit lately. I don't know what happened this morning but I woke up and am all ready to get going again. I know what we are having for dinner and I am looking forward to it.

5 days until I am back in Disney!!!!!!!!:cool1::yay::dance3:

BOO-YA!!!

This week I'm DOWN 3.2.

BABY!

That means I've lost all of my holiday gain. :thumbsup2 I know it's a day early, but my WW weigh-in date is Sundays and I couldn't wait to post. It's just that in the past, I would have let a gain like that derail me, but not this time. I did it! :woohoo:

Julie, welcome back! Can't wait to hear about your trip. Have you started that trip report yet?

Sheree, you went ouside when it was 10 degrees? On PURPOSE? ;) It's been raining and cold all day today and all I want to do is to snuggle under a blanket and watch football. But I have to go lead a Scout meeting.

Jane, sorry to hear about the job stress. Meeting planning is one of those things that everyone thinks is SOOOO easy, but it's really much more involved. It does sound like a very stressful time for you :(

OK, I'm off to Scouts now. Have a good day everyone!

Great job!!!!

Yup, I sure did! I went with my daughter's girl scout troop to a "winter blast" event. The things we do for our kids!!! I pretty much have stayed in since we got back. Got my Disney Christmas fleece blanket and am snuggled up with the laptop now!

quick drive by check in here...welcome back stayhomemom!!!!!!!!!!!!! Miss hearing from you :cutie:

Congrats Duchie on the removal of the xmas pounds. :banana:I too am down a couple already. whew.

Possibility of a snow day tomorrow...we'll see!

Barb- Awesome job on shedding the Christmas weight gain :thumbsup2

Julie - Welcome Back:)

Well I am -1.1 today which I will gladly take since I thought with the eating out I've done lately that I was going to be up. Still have a bit to go to get to where I was before the holidays but if I can loose that this week and go on the trip where I was before the holidays I will be happy. My goal when I come back in 2 weeks is to at least stay the same (would love a loss and will try for a loss). I don't want to have a gain and then have to work that off before I can start again.

I am sorry but I haven't heard from Dawn so if you want to send me your weights I will track them until I hear from Dawn. If she is going to continue tracking I will forward the info to her. Dawn I hope this is ok with you.:lovestruc
