When did "Gooder" become a word?

I jut saw a Gain commercial and it just bugged the heck out of me.
The announcer talked about this farm guy who's day is "gooder" now that his laundry is washed in Gain detergent. It's the one where the wife walks by and says "cows aren't gonna milk themselves"
There is also one with a dumb blonde actress talking about orange juice and saying she looks "gooder". It's the blonde who was in Allie mcBeal and invented the chin bra. (I know she is in other shws but I don't watch them)
But I digress... when did "gooder" become a word, and do you ever use it?
Personally I use better.

I hate that commercial. It's dumb. Gain is trying to use "gooder" as part of their new advertising campaign.

It's just dumber, not gooder.

I've seen this commercial too, and I'm not sure how to respond. Do they know "gooder" isn't a word? Is the assumption that the farmer is dumb?

Are they implying farmers are dumb? My husband might be offended because he has an MBA and runs his family's 3000 acre sugar cane plantation.

I think " gooder" is a word until you reach around age six
After that you should know BETTER!!

Apparently in their print ads, they use "good'er". it's an attempt to play on the phrase "good morning", or something.

That commercial bothers me so much. I can't believe it was ever approved. I dislike it enough to not even consider buying that detergent.
