When did Disney do away with Value Season? Just got off of the phone with a seemingly very knowledgeable CM and were told that Disney has done away with Value Season (aka rates!) When did this happen? :confused3

I would imagine if they did this, we'd have heard about it from one of the reliable news sources by now. And on their web site the prices for early Dec are still coming up as value season rates as of a few days ago when I was looking at options for our pre-Christmas trip.

They still have the different "seasons", including value but they have changed Fri-Sat rates vs Sun-Thur rates. In each "season" the Fri-Sat rates are higher than the Sun-Thurs.

While this is a change for Disney, having slightly higher room rates on weekends is standard practice in the hotel industry

They only have higher rates for *certain* weekends, not for every weekend. For example, we're going to be there over two weekends in value season. One of them is MLK weekend, so we're payin $20 more per night for those three nights. The following, non-holiday weekend we're paying the same rate as we're paying Mon thru Thurs.

Mousesavers has a chart of which weekends are priced higher in their resorts section.

We went in Dec. and it is still considered Value season. If you compare prices on WDW web site, they clearly designate a value season.

I priced a value season (Mid Jan) against moderate (Early May) at the Official web site a few months ago and got the same price...
Can't wait to go in May-we have never been at that time of year!:cool1:

There was a huge difference for us from the last week of Feb to the first week of Feb. I thought value season went from Feb 13th or so to mid april.

Value season tends to END before Presidents Day, which signals the start of spring break for schools and the beginning of peak season.

I can't recall that they ever had value season during spring break, which is one of the absolute busiest times of year at WDW.

Current value seasons are January (higher prices for MLK weekend) to mid-February, late August through September, and about three weeks immediately following Thanksgiving weekend. Used to be they had one in October and November, too, but that was bumped up to regular season.

We're going during "value" season at the end of July. Also, weekend rates are the same as Mon.-Thurs.

I just booked value season in Sept. '08 and got the same rate for the weekend as well.

Seems odd a CM told you they did away with value season - maybe a misunderstanding.

I thought it was odd, too. Yet she was so very knowledgeable about everything else (and we went over a lot of info as we are planning a Grand Gathering) She even read what she referred to as the "upcoming new seasons" dates. :confused3

That's backwards. Actually value season ends Feb. 13 or so and then it jumps into PEAK season and stays there until a week after Easter Sunday. However, value and moderate resorts have a Summer season which is higher than regular season but lower than peak season. Go to WDWinfo.com and click on resorts and they have charts that are very easy to understand. BTW, I'm going to be a Pop on Jan. 26th and it's considered value season. My room is discounted with an AP rate to $69 a night....the week days were only $49 a night, but Friday and Saturday did not have as good of a discount as the week days did. Though the regular rate for the entire week at rack rate is $82 a night.

Sorry, that is what i mean, PEAK Season was Feb 13-April. We originall had booked peak season last week of Feb and the rate was much lower when we changed to the first week of Feb instead. Sorry!

I too stay away from peak season. I've never been during that season. We always go the end of January or beginning of February just to take advantage of value season. With the prices as high as they are during peak season, I think there are going to be more and more going during value season.

and if more and more go during the value season, there will probably end up being fewer and fewer value season periods. That's already happened with October and early November which were switched from value to regular season.

I won't go during peak season unless I have DVC points available.

I agree, I was thinking along the same line. I see value season disappearing and/or shrinking further. I too remember when November was value season and the way December is I see value season ending there too. But, what can we do? We are addicted.....Oh, but we can certainly buy more DVC points. I agree, I use my DVC points when the rates are higher and will go for a few cash days or even a week on cash during value season. (Jan/Feb/Aug).
