When can you transfer 2023 UY Points?

Any time after your 2022 use year begins. You are allowed one transfer per use year, but, in any given use year, you can transfer current use year points and the next use year points, as long as you do only one transfer per applicable use year.

You can transfer up to two years at one time ( current UY and next). It will count as one transfer for for each UY.

So my Use year is february. It is february. So reading this that means I can do a 2023 transfer right now? What if the person I am transferring from has an October Use Year? Do we have to wait until October?

No because points don’t change when transferred. Your 2023 points will go into her account and follow the same Feb UY rules as they would for you.

It will also count for her 2023 UY transfer, even though they can be used in her 2022 UY for some of the time because they are Feb UY points.

It’s important that she knows that she can not borrow these points so they can only be used for trips from Feb 1st 2023 to January 31st 2024….unless she banks them after she gets them and them they will be good for trips from Feb 1st 2024 to January 31st 2025.

I may be wrong, but I don't think OP can transfer Feb. 2023 UY points at this time to a friend with an Oct UY, I believe OP will need to wait until Oct. 1st to do so.

This is where it gets tricky. My understanding is you can transfer points out in your current UY, and next UY. Likewise, the receiver can only receive points in their current UY and next UY.

As of today, Feb. 8th, 2022... OP in in 2022 UY, and can therefore transfer Feb. 2022 and Feb. 2023 UY points out. However, friend in this case is in Oct 2021 UY, so can only receive 2021 UY points and the next UY, which is 2022 points. Friend cannot receive 2023 UY until Oct. 1st, 2022 when friend in officially in Oct. 2022 UY, than friend can receive 2023 UY points transferred as part of next UY.

Of course, now, today, OP can transfer points to someone else who has Feb UY contract, since that person is already in 2022 UY.

Have anybody tried transferring points in this scenario successfully before, and can prove my understanding is incorrect. If so, please post, and correct me.

Thanks,

As long as the op is in their 2022 UY they can transfer their 2023 points. It has nothing to do with the recipient. Both parties just need to be eligible to transfer and receive a transfer. As Sandy said, the points follow the original UY.

It goes by the points themselves. I have done it before where I got points like this from a different UY. I was in my Dec 2018 UY and got June 2020 points so I could use them to book a stay at the 11 month window in August 2019 for my stay in July of 2020.

The person transferred them to me in April of 2019. We had no issues.

As I mentioned, since the points are 2023 points, then this would count for this persons 2023 transfer as well, even though that is not the UY they are in.

Perfect, thanks for posting your example and correcting my understanding on this for Points Transfer rules. It took me like 3 re-reads, but I do understand now your posting/sentence on the UY points you received, in the UY you were currently in, for the travel dates you wanted on the date of actual booking versus the date you got the actual transfer of points. What a mouthful, but this does illustrate it clearly to me.

In this case, since OP is looking to transfer out Feb. 2023 UY, and it counts as 2023 UY transfer for the person receiving the points, than means the people getting the point can still get a transfer in of 2022 UY points, and even 2021 UY points if they haven't already sent/received a transfer of 2022 and 2021 points. Is that correct?

Meaning, for example... today is Feb. 8th, 2022... OP sends Feb. 2023 points to friend who has Dec. UY, so friend in Dec. 2021 UY currently. Friend received Feb. 2023 UY points which counts for 2023 Transfer. Friend hasn't done any other transfer, so friend can still get 2022 UY points from someone else as well as 2021 UY points, all on the same day?

Thanks,

Wait, more questions... I decided to re-read your answer once again, and thinking about this some more, and something still bothers me, that I can't wrap my head around.

The point transfer occurred on April 2019. Since you have Dec UY points, so on April 2019, you are in your Dec 2018 UY points. Sender have June UY, so also in their June 2018 UY points, since it's not June 2019 yet. That means sender should have only been able to send 2018 June UY points, and 2019 June UY points, since sender is still in 2018 UY? But yet the sender sent you June 2020 UY points?

If that's the case, than it doesn't matter what UY year the sender is currently in, sender can send the next calendar's year points as of the date of transfer? I would have though the sender would had to wait until June 1st 2019 for 2019 UY points to start, before being able to send you June 2020 UY points in your example? Just want to make sure I completely understand everything there is with regards to Points Transfer rules.

Thanks,

Yes, they allowed her to send me the 2020 which was surprising as we didn’t know they would because of the two year rule!

She called first, got the okay, and did it right then. We knew each other so she didn’t worry I would not pay her!

They should have made her wait until June 1st when she entered her 2019 UY, but it didn’t change UY for me so had they, I would have still gotten 2020 points into my account while I was in my 2018 UY.

Right, even if they made her wait until June 1st, 2019 to do the Points Transfer, you still would have gotten June 2020 UY points while you are in your Dec. 2018 UY. I fully understand now. So, it does seem like these rules are enforced at CM only level, not strictly by the computer systems. There's latitude at their discretion; good to know. Thanks Sandy for all your answers. To think I thought I understood the nuances of the Points Transfer rules before, and still I am learning thanks to more experienced folks like yourself.
