When we go at Christmas, I will be using a some time of assistance temporarily following knee surgery. My surgery is scheduled 2 weeks before we leave, and I am guessing that I will probably need to elevate my leg at some point during our trip. With the idea of propping my leg, here is the question:

Which is better/ has the capability to allow me to prop my leg - wheelchair or ECV?

My knee is being scoped and having a lateral release. I am 5'1", with a little extra meat on the bones (just chubby, not obese or pooh-sized...though I am not sure what makes one pooh-sized - Please don't flame me:confused:).

I am willing to take breaks to sit and prop my knee up if and when necessary.

Thank you in advanced.

For propping up your leg a wheelchair is best, followed by a four-wheel ECV with the three-wheel ECV trailing the field.

The problem with a wheelchair is you have to be pushed, and unless the pusher is in good physical shape (or you have multiple pushers) they will get worn out. There are hills which most people don't notice. And if you are going to use a wheelchair, rent it at home as the Disney rentals do not have the adjustable leg rests.

With a four-wheel ECV the fenders above the front wheels can be used to rest your foot or ankle, with your leg straight out. This will work to elevate it.

Since a three-wheel ECV has the one front wheel under the tiller, there is no real god way to keep a leg elevated.

Thanks Chesire. I knew you would have the answer. DH is leaning toward wheelchair, but I just don't think he quite knows what he is getting himself into. DS 6 and my mom think scooter, but my mom was the one that raised the issue about being able to prop the foot. My dad thinks I should just ride in DS' wagon. I am 37 BTW. He is the only one who found his joke funny. He did change is tune when we suggested that he could be the one that pulled the wagon.

I am torn right now. I want to go ahead and reserve something so I have it for the trip, but I want to talk to my doctor to see what I can expect. Do you think that if I wait until Dec. 1, I will still be able to rent something for my trip (12/21 - 12/26)?

Timing should not be a problem, but you might want to look at a local rental in Tampa.

And anything that is pulled, such as a wagon, is not permitted in any of the Disney Parks.
