I will be coming to Orlando in November for a college advising session, and will be taking Amtrak to either the Orlando Amtrak Station or Kissimmee Amtrak Station. Are these stations located in safe areas? Also, what is the best wheelchair accessible shuttle/taxi to take between either station and the Disney resorts. I am considering Port Orleans-Riverside or one of the value resorts. The shuttle or taxi vehicle needs to be able to accommodate my power wheelchair.

Most of the taxis are owned by Mears, which has about 20 accessible taxis. The costs are the same as a regular taxi ($2.20 for the 1st 1/4 mile, then 55¢ per additional 1/4 mile). Call 407-422-2222 or go to www.mearstransportation.com

I would also think that the Mears Shuttle Service would provide transport between the train and resorts. It is less expensive than a taxi, and while you "may" have to share the ride with other passengers, it is less likely than with the regular Mears shuttles.

I never was to the Orlando station, but I think it is more of a 'real' train station. The Kissimmee one is just like a platform, and it wasn't in the greatest of areas...I wouldn't want to be there alone, that is my opinion of course, others may not be as 'cautious', ok scared, as I am, lol
