Has anyone taken a child in a cast to Disney? My son will be five on October 22, and instead of having a party this year he wants just me and him to go to Disney for the weekend without my DH or his teenage sisters.. The problem is, he was put in a short leg cast last Wednesday due to a recently diagnosed bone disorder. It is a walking cast, but I know walking around the parks for a day and a half will be a bit much. I am debating on whether to borrow a full sized wheelchair from work, rent a child's wheelchair, or just rent a stroller. Has anyone been in this situation, and if so, what worked for you and your family?

i haven't been in your situation, but i think renting a regular stroller would be best, unless you anticipate him needing a ride at the resorts (if you walk around the resorts a lot). if it's a walking cast, he should be ok walking to the bus stop from your room, etc, and might he feel funny in a wheelchair anyway? then you'd also have to deal w/ the wheelchair on the transportation too, which is a little bit of a pain, especially if you really don't *need* it. Hope everything goes well w/ your son and his diagnosis - good luck to him. and have fun on your trip.

If you use a Stroller you can get a red "stroller as a wheel-chair" tag at guest services so that he can use the stroller in line and stay seated for some of the longer lines anyway.

Thanks for the advice! I did not know I could use the stroller as a wheelchair so he could still stay seated in long lines. Can you do that with the rented strollers also? With it just being the two of us I don't want to have to fold up a big stroller for the bus, he might decide to wander off while I am folding :)
Unless we are visiting Magic we drive though, so that should only be a problem once.

::yes::
You can do it with rental strollers too.
Just stop in Guest Services in the parks and explain your child's needs.

(I guess won't help the OP, since they are already leaving, but just for future reference)..
