We are leaving in 3 weeks for a Grand Gathering... My son is high functioning Autistic, but will not have the stamina to walk the park. I considered renting a stroller everyday, but over 8 days that gets really expensive!

I haven't been to the parks in years, but when you stayed on property you used to be able to borrow a wheelchair from the resort for your length of stay. Do they still offer this option?

Thanks!

well that is how we have done it.

some people say now that the CM giving them the wheelchairs are saying it for the resort only.

I have never been told that. So until I am - we are taking it to the parks.

A wheelchair from the resort would probably be way too big for an 8yo. Also, if you estimate the number of days you will be needing a stroller you can prepay with a $2.00 discount per day. You will get a string of coupons, one of which will be date-stamped when you get a stroller. If you change parks during a day, or the stroller vanishes, you can get another just by showing the ticket with that day's stamp.

Some people had posted a while ago that they were told they could use the wheelchair from the resort only at the resort and someone else posted they were told they could use it where ever they wanted, but they could only have it for a few days. It was only a few people who posted that, but if you plan to borrow a wheelchair from the resort, I would bring along the phone numbers of some of the off-site rental places just in case.

I agree with Cheshire Figment that unless your son is pretty big, he will probably not be very comfortable in a wheelchair. The wheelchairs are standard adult size, which means the width of the seat is at least 16 inches and they are sling seats and backs, so there is very little support.
The strollers are large enough for a small 12 year old and a lot of people with children with autism have reported their kids really like the strollers. They are made of a firm plastic and they have solid sides and nice canopies that cut down stimulation and provide kind of a nice "safe haven".
