What's your favorite breed of dog?

Westies!

We have a 5 year old boy now - he is the best dog ever. Playful, smart, quite a cuddler, minimal shedding & great with kids. Personality with a CAPITAL P!! We will get another one in a year or so - I can't imagine not ever having one. :goodvibes

We have also had (in order of preference):

Pekingnese - we had male/female litter mates...they were wonderful.
Dachsunds - one was wild & rowdy & one was a sweet cuddler
Multiple Goldens - the first one was a great family pet
Boxer
Pug
Pomeranians - too barky & hyper
Some type of large hunting/bird dog - he was a mix & we couldn't keep him fenced. No matter what we did, he would jump over. It seemed cruel to keep him in a pen all the time, so we gave him to some friends who lived in the country.

We love animals.

And have had...
1. a Rescued Greyhound...this was the best trained dog..we called him a gentleman dog..he was so good with the children and we had him for 16 years.
2. A tibetan spaniel... he loves to climb as they were temple guard dogs...he even got on our 2nd story roof:scared1: ...he's now 9 years old.
3. A toy pomperian.. 7 years old, she's so prissy... and only likes Men.. i call her a stripper dog.. :rotfl:
4. A teacup chihuahua... she's my baby!!! i LoVe LoVe her.. i got her when i was going through empty nest syndrom..and she is so loveable, not yippy yappy.. just a total cuddler.. she's 3.

We have only had one dog that we gave away..it was a scottish terrier that we bought at a pet store.. she was so wild.. hyper..nothing would calm her down.. she bit several members of the family so we had to give her to a neighbor several houses down who had another scottie.. and no children.

I have owned many kinds and own many kinds now.

My favorite are Yorkies.

Right now I own:

2 Yorkies, 1 Silky Terrior, 1 Chow, 2 Schnauzers, 1 Shepard/Chow mix, and 2 Chow/Schnauzer mix.

All this is not counting the rabbit, hamsters, bird, and fish.

I'm a cat person, but if I were going to get a dog it would be a Cocker Spaniel, Yorkie, Beagle, or English Bulldog. :)

I love PUGS! We've also had poodles and shar peis as pets. Right now we have a little pug/shar pei mix and he is a great dog. Pugs are very sweet natured and want to please their families. We got this little fella here:

Shelties...

We have had two and now looking at a rescue one from Long Island..

Just love our Shetland Sheepdogs...

Cocker spaniels are my favorite breed. I've had 7 in my lifetime. Very sweet dogs, but not the smartest breed.

Timber wolf/Alaskan Malamute cross. My all time favorite dog. She was brilliant and extremely loyal. She lived to be 14 years old and was the best dog I've ever owned. I would never recommend a wolf cross to the average person though, as they need an owner with a dominate personality and require a lot of training. Definitely smarter than most people!

Rottweiler -- I would love to have another Rottie but hate the insurance liability. Mine needed a whole lot of socializing, but she was the sweetest Rottweiler I have ever known.

Afghan Hounds -- have had 4 of them. The dumbest, most aloof dogs in the world... I, too, was young and dumb when I had them. :) Would never own another!

Yorkshire Terrier - Have one now and he is precious. He rarely barks and never meets a stranger. Loves people but is obsessed with playing fetch. Very much a velcro dog except when playing fetch.

Breeds I love but have never owned

Irish Wolfhounds -- haven't bought one because they have such a short life span

Neapolitan Mastiff -- didn't buy one because they are prone to hip dysplasia and often have skin problems

Golden Retreivers..My Jenny passed away last year at 14..

Labrador retreiver
Collies
St Bernards
Newfundlands
Great pyrennes

Actually any dog, including mutts! I do favor larger breeds though.

RIP Jenny

My favorite breed would be the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I've owned a few, and have one currently. My house will never be without one. They are stubborn, but so is my husband, so I'm used to that.

They are the most wonderful water dogs. We've hunted with labs also, but they don't compare to the Chessie.

We also currently have a shih-tzu puppy. It's our first. Quite the learning experience, but he's so lovable, it's worth it.

We've also had:

Beagle
Rottie
German Shepard
Cocker Spaniel

Love all the pictures!:goodvibes

These are my babies. I will always have a Mastiff or 10.

I have a Golden and an Aussie right now. I love both dogs. I've also had a Sheltie which I loved. The only problem with the Sheltie is he barked at everything, including planes that flew over the house.

I had the funniest experience with the Ridgebacks.... I used to date someone who had 2. I had 2 labs. We would walk along this creek. Well, one day we had to cross literally a 4 inch wide stream of water. These Ridgebacks would NOT cross the water. No way, no how. I actually had to pick them up and carry them over! ( Yes, I know thier heritage, which does explain it, somewhat )...... ;)

But other than that I liked those dogs.

Greyhounds are my favorite. but I also loved my Salukis.
My next dog will either be a Briard or an Australian Shepard.

I have always loved German Shepherds. We had a collie for 11 years and he was just the best, so they are definitely one of my favorite breeds. I think they and huskies are the two prettiest breeds there are. This time last year I had no idea what a Shiba Inu was, now I have two and I am just crazy about them. They are the perfect match for us at this time. I love big dogs but even though the Shibas are small I don't think of them as little dogs.

Over the years I have had-

a daschund (for a very brief time when I was about 5)
German Shepherd (for about a month when I was 18, I had to move and he went to live on a large farm)
Heinz 57 mutt (great dog, lived to be 15)
Chow-Lab mix
Collie (best dog we ever had, very sweet)
2 Shiba Inus (so far so good, they are still puppies but have been very easy to train, only bark when necessary and are easy to maintain)
