What's your favorite breed of dog?

Aren't they the best dogs in the world!

I currently have 2 collies. One Sable and one Blue Merle.

These are my 3rd and 4th ones. My 1st two were both Sables.

Only downfall is the hair, but because everything else about them is perfect, I can deal with it. :)

How bad is the hair? I've always loved Collies, they are so beautiful. But I think the shedding would drive me nuts, and I'd have a hard time convincing DH to get one anyway.

My favorites are

Labrador Retrievers
Sheepdogs
Irish Wolfhounds
Bull Mastiffs
Schipperkes

I've been owned by a lab and a sheepdog. Smart dogs, both. I'd take a lab again in a heartbeat.

They do not tend to be big droolers, but sometimes there is one that is. (My parents first male was, but still not as bad as a Saint Bernard)

That's the one thing that surprised me about our St. Bernard - she drools a LOT less than I thought she would. The only time we really have to watch out is after she eats or gets a drink. I guess when we are sitting on the sofa, our laps appear like a nice big napkin to her after drinking  .

Oh, I know that not all Saints are big droolers. (The same is true with Newfies) From what I understand, that is something that breeders are trying to work out of the blood lines. Have to laugh at the napkin thing though. The dog I was talking about earlier drooled when he got excited. When they were showing him, they had to have a rag to wipe his mouth before getting in the ring. Then if they had to wait for the judges to look at him, they had to wipe again. That boy loved being in the ring.

Without a boubt: cocker spaniels

We have owned:
1. Jack Russell
2. mutt
3. chow

The insurance company made us get rid of the chow. I still don't see the problem. Bear was in a kennel where he could get on the porch, but was still fenced in. It was that man's fault he was poking around the house with no one home.:lmao: Bear had cancer of some sort, anyway, and wasn't doing well. We just took him to the vet, who mercifully put him down.

There's a Newfie (named Hagrid) that we see at the dog park all the time and is just the sweetest dog. He's a big drooler, his owners have a towel they use to wipe his mouth off. He also loves kids, and my daughter. His eyes are at the exact same level eye as hers, and she freaks because he sticks his face in hers and slobbers on her when he says hi. Totally grosses her out. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

1. Tibetan Mastiff- we are on a wait list for a puppy now
2. Newfie-We own one now
3. Great Danes- have owned in the past
4. Labs
5. Borzoi- will have one someday soon

I love my Jack Russells. We have also had golden retrievers (my husband's dog) and several mutts. Loved them all, but my Russell is my special baby!

Congrats on the Tibetan Mastiff. While they may be a lot of work to socialize, the Livestock Guardian Dogs are the best! I wouldn't trade the LGD personality for anything in the world.

You will have to post pictures when you get your puppy!

Do you subscribe to the LGD list? Great info if you don't.

My current dog turned me into a dog fan. I never had a dog before and he's the best!! Here is my long-haired doxie

We are a collie family too!

My older two kids are in my signature and we just got a new puppy, named Devlin, two weeks ago.

The hair isn't too bad if you keep up with weekly brushings and small touch-ups in between.

Do Collies bark alot?? I heard that barking can be a big problem. I've always loved collies and Shelties and this concerned me about both breeds.

I asked RPO and I'll ask you also ~ Do your Collies bark alot?? I was told that barking excessively can be a problem with Collies and Shelties.

From my experience with collies, they are not big barkers but when they do it is very annoying. Their bark is high pitched. I've never had a sheltie but have been around them and they seem to bark alot more than the collie.

Dachshunds are my all-time favorite, but I would also love to have a boxer or sharpei. Breeds I have had are...

dachshund (of course)
toy poodle
Yorkie
Chihuahua
beagle

DD wants either a Husky, Bloodhound or Coonhound. Anybody got any tips or advice on those breeds?

My favorite dogs are
1)Yorkies (we have 2 right now and I just love them)
2)Cocker Spaniel (I had two of these, Thunder and Lightning, growing up and miss them)
3)Maltese (I just think they are adorable and would like to have one someday)
4)Shih Tzu (my sister has one and I love him)
5)Beagle (my first 2 dogs ever when I was little and loved them)
