Whats Wrong with Disney?

Without quoting anyone my biggest problem with this kind of thread is where it gets started or remains I don't see it as a planning strategy I think it belongs on the Community Board where opinions are free to fly and almost anything goes

I have been t Universa. What bothers me is how people are so shocked at the idea that I have been to both and still like Disney better. It's like they think I must be crazy if I don't see in Uni what they do. I so like Uni, but I still find the service, cleanliness and atmosphere at Disney more appealing. I like to ride new, innovative rides too, but quite frankly, nothing new beats most of the Disney classics. That's just the style I like more, but somehow I must have Disney blinders on. I don't. I recognize there is room for improvement, but they're still performing better than "the neighbor kid" overall.

Unless, of course, people come to a DISNEY parks thread to talk about DISNEY and have NO interest in going to Universal. My parents live less than an hour from Busch Gardens Tampa and I've been to their place probably 30 times in 36 years. I've been to BG once for a few hours. This doesn't mean that I "hate" BG or the people that go there. It means I'm not interested. And I'd be super annoyed if I went to a St. Pete-Clearwater forum on "Beaches" and was constantly bombarded with pro-Busch Gardens users constantly trying to tell me why the sand at Clearwater beach sucks and I should go to Busch Gardens instead.

Just look at MadHattered's posts for yesterday. Every single one was about how Disney sucks and Universal is better....on DISNEY threads....when he admittedly is not going to Disney anytime in the next two years. MadHattered's thrill is to be purposefully antagonistic. Without either the kudos from other pro-Uni users or arguments from people like you and me, he'd be lost.

NO, NO, NO, Seth!!! Haven't you read the Disboard's narrative? Don't you understand? You're wrong! Deal with it. Universal is just better. At everything. Your concept of happiness and enjoyment is just ignorant because you'd be happier at Universal if you just gave it a try. They have better hotels, better rides, better characters, better restaurants, (did I miss something?)

I love when you pull out the "Mkay." Its when condescending goes into overdrive...

I think, at best, "more and more" people are adding days to go to Universal, as evidenced by larger percentage increase in attendance for USF, but also rising attendance for WDW. Not cutting into their Disney vacation.

Again, just check MH's list of posts (probably for the last month or year, frankly) and they are overwhelmingly anti-Disney. I've even had him reference one lone pro-Disney post as a rebuttal when I've said this before. He's not here to learn more about Disney or plan a trip or share advice. He's here to hate on Disney. Therefore, I wouldn't bother engaging in a back and forth. Just ignore the hate (and sadly, most of the threads on Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies forum from now on. It has been hijacked by Disney-haters for at least the last year, regardless of what they call themselves. If you like the excitement of the back and forth, by all means continue.)

Hey - I am not one to bash Disney. I do indeed love both. All I was pointing out is that IF you go to Universal to go with an open mind. I see a lot of people on these boards go in with a negative mindset and are ready to bash the place. (Or go only for HP and totally miss what a great experience and great time they can have.

Personally I enjoy both places. If I had a prefence tight now it would probably be Universal only because I like the easy access to both parks and citywalk from my resort hotel and the express passes. I am no spring chicken and I like the option of not having to wait for a shuttle or stand in long lines.

Well thats great your going to Universal????

With less days your likely feeling more of that strain of planning I would guess. .

Actually, no I'm not feeling any increased pressure. 2 @ days at epcot and 1 day at MK. The one thing I'm looking forward to at both parks are the night time spectaculars. No one does it better. I absolutely adore Wishes and Illuminations and I don't have to make reservations to see either one!

There's nothing wrong with anything you said here other than perhaps you could have said "but in my opinion they're still performing better" because not everyone shares that view. Having actually been to Universal, you have the right to comment on whether you find it better or worse than Disney...unless of course you were to compare it to a Six Flags. :)

I agree, sort of. I don't think people who have a "negative mindset" about Universal are even going to Universal. In fact, I don't remember a lot of posts where people had "negative" attitudes about Uni but I could be mistaken. Frankly, if I ever had the time and inclination to go, I'd have the best positive attitude I could. Why ruin a good time?

I agree with you for another reason. There's a particular DIS member who hasn't really posted recently on this thread, but has on others and seems to always have something negative to say about Disney. Very frustrated and sarcastic. Anyway, I saw his/her post on another thread recently and then saw their signature: headed to Disney in the next month! My immediately thought was, "Whoa...this guy's not going to have a good time no matter what!" It just made me a little sad because I know he already has a really negative attitude toward Disney and isn't going to enjoy himself.

If i want to ride thrill rides, i'll drive to Cedar Point 2.5 hours away from me. Id rather fly 2.5 hours to go to disney. We have been to disney 4 times in the last 6 years and had gone to Universal once, we thought about going but we never find time thanks to other things we would rather be doing at disney

How about people who really love WDW being called ignorant because they don't think a broken yeti matters? or that FP+ is a major advancement in theme park tech? or that while they know Disney hasn't put up 3-4 new rides this year are OKAY with that and really don't care? If you enjoy Universal thats great have fun. PS - Disney doesn't need to change anything, NOT BECAUSE everything they do is right, BECAUSE not only does everyone still come every year but more and more people actually crowd into WDW.
Look, I love Disney but I think it's ridiculous that that yeti doesn't work. With all of the resources and money at their disposal, it SHOULD work or make another one that will.

What about the 90% of attractions at Universal that aren't "thrill rides" like Cedar Point has?

It's like saying I'd rather go to Legoland than Disney if I just want to ride kiddie rides

As stated previously, there doesn't need to be a winner between Universal and Disney, and competition and innovation is great for all theme park visitors. Count me as someone who is a fan of both parks and wants both companies to do well.

I think many people think Avatar is a bad idea because it does not have a large dedicated fan following or an established place in pop culture. It is obviously not as influential by any means as SW or HP, etc...BUT I think if one considers WDW as a whole, it's important to recognize the number of characters that are in the Disney family which have been beloved and stood the test of time for many, many generations. There are timeless characters and stories from Disney that are just unmatchable, and so I don't necessarily think the parks are lacking in classics or big names when it comes to all that. Therefore, I don't think its imperative that the next big expansion (Avatar/Pandora) for Disney has to be an enormous pop culture icon as long as it's done well and done right. Now that US has HP, it seems the playing field is more level when it comes to memorable characters/icons.

Personally, I'm not so bothered about Avatar. I would like to see a complete face lift on Future World someday.

I understand that the obvious solution to being disappointed by Disney's lack of innovation and improvement is to simply not go; but that is not really the solution that many loyal fans may want. I can only speak for myself, but I care about Disney and have a history with it which compels me to continue going and as a PP said, loyal visitors deserve more. I am well aware I don't have to attend, but it's good to be able to discuss opinions and concerns about an experience and place that means so much.

That being said, I think the lack of innovation, updates, refurbs, or whatever else at Disney may not be noticeable to millions of people who only go once or twice altogether or just not often. So, maybe there is not as much reason for concern when considering this.

It's like saying I'd rather go to Legoland than Disney if I just want to ride kiddie rides

Or no less silly than someone saying "If I want to see animals, I'll drive a hour to the local zoo instead of going to Animal Kingdom". ;)

I wonder if some of the same people who dismiss Universal as a "Thrill Rides" park apply the same logic (or lack thereof) to DHS which has a higher ratio of thrill rides to non-thrill rides than Universal Studios.

Never day never. Much of this magic comes from parents force feeding their children a diet of 50-75 year old movies and telling them about how "someday they'll go to Disney World". Those parents could make Universal just as magical as Disney for their children if they chose to and that day could very well be coming. Heck, many years ago, Sears was at the top of the department store mountain. They became complacent, didn't heed the competition and look where they are now.

That will NEVER happen! Walt disney has an allure that universal will never match. Universal movies are crap and Disney's are timeless! Look at frozen for the most recent example.. It just will never have the same appeal. Everyone wants to be part of the magic..

For some on this board it seems the magic is fading and for those who's magic will never fade, it just keeps the parks a little more open for us!

I'm proud of disney for making fp+ I don't know how people are forgetting but this is a big step and their will be bumps! it's not perfect but it's cool new and innovative.

I'm jealous that people even get to set foot in WDW! I have never been and I am all about the mouse.. I got proposed to at Disneyland, were getting married at Disneyland and were having our honeymoon on DCL..

~No universal will never be disney!~

Why would Universal want to be Disney? That would be sort of like Apple wanting to be Microsoft or Macy's wanting to be Walmart.

The level of maturity one should have prior to getting married seems lacking based on this post. Maybe you should slow down a little.

It's funny how you had to attack me
personally and couldn't stick to the subject of the post.. Says a lot about who you are as a person.

Ps: You know nothing of my background.. And when you post on theses boards you need to keep that in mind

Of course universal wants to be disney they are on top. Every computer company wants to be apple they are on top. ~everyone wants to be in the top spot, it's where all the money is~

Man I should have gotten the popcorn before catching up on this thread. I fall into the category of not a disney or universal hater. Both have good, and bad I am just critical of Disney becuase it feels like they could do so much better, and refuse to. They are like many companies that has been around for many years, and thinks the competition will never catch up till they do. Hate to say it but some kids today have no clue about those 50 to 70 year old movies.

I've seen all this before from people who had never been to Universal Orlando, but never from people who have also never been to Walt Disney World. :rolleyes1

If you are obsessed with all things Disney then of course you aren't going to see the allure of Universal. Look, I love Disney but Universal has an allure for my family, but that is because there is a difference between being a Disney fan and being a Disney fanatic.

I'm sorry not everyone lives in Florida.. Does that make my option less valid, absolutely not. I actually have been to universal Florida my brother is an engineer for universal.. I helped do ride Physics for Harry Potter..

Also in earlier post you will read how actually my opinions are not that bias at all.. I just flat out think disney is better.. That's all..

Snow White, Dumbo and Cinderella can't really compete with Frozen, Despicable Me, Ice Age, Tangled, etc... Sure you can make a child watch anything you desire, but it's not really any more fair than had I been forced to watch silent films when I was a kid. ;)
