Whats Wrong with Disney?

Yes, you're here because even though Disney is doing absolutely fine, they need you to defend them on a message forum. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Because if I came here looking for Disney planning tips and I saw the thread "What's Wrong with Disney," I'd probably be concerned. (Even though in my opinion, there is no reason to be concerned.)

And yeah, it is pretty sad that I have to defend DisneyWorld on a Disney World planning site. That's what's making this place more of a local newspaper comments section and less of a planning and discussion site.

And here comes my FAVORITE answer to my ongoing "Why must Universal be brought up in every negative thread about Disney?" Because the moderators allow it

No one ever said it was a violation of forum rules!!! STILL no one has said that. What we ARE saying is that it is in poor taste in the way some users do this compulsively.

Glad it's your favorite answer, but really, it's true :) You are entitled to go complain to the moderators/owner if you choose. But it is totally pointless to just keep saying on here that people shouldn't have this discussion on the board.

Wow.

Just wow.

I have never complained to the moderators....don't even know how frankly. Nor would I even if I thought people were in poor taste for their motivations. Doesn't change how I feel, though.

And there it is, folks. Thank you, DisUniversal for saying it so succinctly.

We aren't pretending. And we shouldn't be accused of pretending ON A DISNEY PLANNING SITE. And we shouldn't be spoken to condescendingly for liking Disney despite a handful of users' attempts at revealing how awful DisneyWorld really is.
From what I can see, this site is actually a collection of DISCUSSION forums. In most threads (even this one), I think the intention is not to say how awful Disney World is, but rather to express disappointment in what they seem to have become lately. Part of that involves comparing the Disney World of today to it's own past, however part of that also involves comparing them to a competitor who seems to be doing far more right than wrong lately.

We aren't ignoring Universal parks. We just don't care about Universal parks as a argument in a Disney planning site. I frankly hope and wish Universal quite well. As I do Busch Gardens. And Cedar Point. And Disneyland. And wherever else. Just don't want to discuss any of these places when I come to Disboards.
Then start by avoiding the threads you know contain things you don't want to discuss. Also, when you say ""We", you should really change it to "I" because you don't speak for everyone...or even the majority.

The thread is titled, "What is Wrong with Disney?"
I'd be happy to engage in that back and forth, if done respectfully, between people who feel the magic is gone and people who don't. But what does Universal have to do with it? (I realize the OP made the first and original reference, and kudos for the lengthy thread btw. It had all the makings of a great one: Disney bashing and immediate Universal superiority.
Because when one is discussing what is being done wrong by one company, it is only natural to bring up an example of another company doing things right.

Surferdave commented that certain people that are Disney fans lack critical thinking skills, dont know what is best for them vs best for Disney, and reminded us all that this is a planning board. I am just asking for clarification from him since I lack all thinking on my own.

You may have grown accustomed to people saying "this is a planning board" when they are objecting to a discussion being permitted (and you're not the only one since two other people challenged me) but that's not what I'm doing. I'm talking about what to expect from the population of this board. People come here to plan trips to WDW, or to share what they've learned from planning their own trips with other people. Discussions aren't limited to that topic but that's the people who are here. A subset of that group of people favor WDW the way some people might favor the Yankees or Cowboys and think that's the way we are all supposed to be.

I did not say anyone lacks critical thinking skills. But I do think that people who are overly fanatic about a topic have difficulty applying critical thinking to that topic. When I'm planning a trip I'm very glad there are people here to turn to who aren't loathe to speak openly about things that may not be so great in the parks.

Do you think your posts do ANYTHING at all to help someone who might be easily confused and become concerned that Disney isn't doing everything perfectly lately?

According to one of your posts, maybe people shouldn't even be here at all because then they might find out that the Yeti is broken and it would tarnish an otherwise perfect experience.

Then start by avoiding the threads you know contain things you don't want to discuss. Nope. I will continue to point out how I think it is in poor taste for some people to compulsively trash Disney and compulsively complain and compulsively argue that Universal is better in all aspects. And I mean ALL. Also, when you say ""We", you should really change it to "I" because you don't speak for everyone...or even the majority. How can you be sure? I might not be in the majority in the "negative Nancy" threads, but overall? You're telling me that most of the 483,000 Dis members are really Universal fans and are yearning to talk more about Universal than they are Disney?

Because when one is discussing what is being done wrong by one company, it is only natural to bring up an example of another company doing things right.

That I can see. But when people disagree with them and say that they think nothing is wrong, they are called ignorant, wearing rose-colored glasses and drinking the Kool-aid. Sound familiar? To whom is that helpful? THOSE are the people I am talking about. They are just here to stir and watch the fallout out.

Only a very small part of this site is about Disney planning.

Yes, people who dismiss any and every negative comment about Disney and justify things that are broken by saying things like "it doesn't matter if it's broken as long as I don't know it's broken" are ignorant and to some extent, wearing rose colored glasses. In some cases, people just aren't drinking the Kool-aid...they're swimming in it. You have done far more to stir this thread into an argument then any other poster here.

In all honesty, you just joined this month.

And I give you exhibit A regarding the condescending attitude toward people who simply love Disney and can't wait to plan their next trip without having to discuss what goes on at Universal. I don't care what happens there. What could you possibly know about me? You have no idea how long I've been observing these boards before signing up and you have no idea how many times I've been to Disney. I guess having a username and password is the only qualification for having the ability to hold an opinion on Disney. This thread is so jacked up.

Cue up the "why don't you just leave then" posts. :duck:

I'm sure several usual suspects here whose mouths are still red with HP Kool-aid will tell me that HP is both completely accessible to non-fans (while simultaneously assuring me that Pandora will NOT be) and a dream come true for Potter fans. Okay.

Really.....who quoted koolaid drinkers on this thread??? Pot meet Kettle

I appreciate your concern.

I think you misunderstood my comments. I am asking you to please stop attacking other posters who have an opinion that differs from yours.

You're kidding, right? I'm "attacking" other posters? By disagreeing with them? :badpc:

I actually have some experience with this. About a year or two ago (I can't remember which WDW trip) I spent a lot of time on the Disboards before my trip. I looked up tips and tricks and restaurants, etc... I came across a ton of "Can you believe Disney lets that single light bulb stay dim while all the others are well-lit in the fourth row of lights behind the tree just right of the bathrooms in Germany?!?" threads and posts. (This was before the FP+ hysteria.) Eventually, that unrelenting, pointless type of negativity seeps into your mindset. Anyway, I went on my trip and found myself subconsciously looking for paint chips and lights out and overflowing trash. Never really saw anything egregious, but I was disappointed in myself.
Its the power of suggestion. I think a lot of people here want others to feel the same way they do about Disney. Unfortunately, some people want others to feel as badly as they do about Disney. So they trash and trash and complain, etc... If I was planning my first Disney trip and stumbled upon this forum, I'd probably cancel my trip. Or I'd go and complain about all the things I read that were terrible. Point is, I never knew so many things were wrong with Disney until I came here. After 25+ visits in 36 years, it was fine until I was told here that it is most certainly NOT fine.
Since then, nothing has ever been "fine" again. First it was maintenance. Then last year it was FP+. Now the 7DMT sucks. Soon Avatar will suck. I'm sure Star Wars land will suck, too. I'm starting to notice that several of the DIS users aren't being critical...they're being obnoxious.

You just make it up as you go...amazing.

Lets simmer down now. No one on here hates Disney. Lets be real. Why would someone waste their time on a board about something they hate. Its stupid and a lot more people on this board have lives I would think.

However, Disney needs to step it up. If I see the neighbor kid doing better than my kid, I'm gonna use the neighbor kid as an example to push my own kid. Competitiveness leads to innovation and improvement.

How do you breed competitiveness? By using comparisons that you are actually knowledgable about. If you never been to Universal, you can't have an opinion because it makes you look ignorant. Just say I never been to Universal so I don't know.

Disney and Universal are the same but different. They both are for families to create memories and experiences fun moments together. They go about it in different ways. Universal works more on appealing those who are buying the tickets to want to come to the parks while Disney appeals to those who are buying tickets for their little ones to come to the parks.

C'mon, guys, you defeat the purpose of the ignore feature when you quote everything someone says. :)

Only a very small part of this site is about Disney planning.
"Disney Trip Planning Forums
These forums focus on topics important to planning your Disney World vacation."

Yeah, just the first 21 threads.

Yes, peop"le who dismiss any and every negative comment about Disney and justify things that are broken by saying things like "it doesn't matter if it's broken as long as I don't know it's broken" are ignorant and to some extent, wearing rose colored glasses. Check out the EMH change thread. I never apologized for what I believe to be an unfortunate situation for those traveling in July-September. I have never dismissed "every negative comment" about Disney. Just the ones where I think people are coming from the wrong place with their motivation.

And I give you exhibit A regarding the condescending attitude toward people who simply love Disney and can't wait to plan their next trip without having to discuss what goes on at Universal. Get used to it. OR, save yourself and leave the DIS now. OR, get ready to be told to "ignore" the Disney-hate posts on the Disney planning forum. :goodvibes

Really.....who quoted koolaid drinkers on this thread??? Pot meet Kettle

It was a joke. Check out my user title. I have embraced my bath in the Kool-Aid. I am happily happy and I'm not going to apologize for not being a hater.

Please go look in a mirror. This is what you're doing. But now that I know your agenda, I am going to ignore all of your posts.
Sorry if you think I'm stirring. I think you misunderstood my reference, but either way. Have a good one.:dance3:

A reasonable voice. :thumbsup2
