What's wrong in November?

Just called WDW to get ressies for 11/8 - 11/16.

NO ROOMS!

The CM says that they are extremely busy this week and there are no rooms on Disney property at all that week. For regular rate or otherwise. See says they are expecting record November crowds. I asked her why, she says she could only guess it's because of VETERAN'S DAY. How busy is Veteran's Day? I don't think it can be that busy, can it?
Does anyone know of anything else big happening then? My DH will not go at busy times and I would like to avoid anything big going on.
On the plus side though, I am very happy to hear that WDW is doing better!
Anyone who can clue me in, please let me know.
Thanks so much!

Well...you've got the Food and Wine festival going on at EPCOT, Super Soap weekend that weekend, Veteran's Day( my daughter has that Friday off - so lots of families have a long weekend...). Plus the FTP was extended earlier this summer to inlude Nov. stays...also AP rates just came out. So, because so many people LOVE Disney, they're taking - or have taken- advantage of all of the above!! But don't give up! Keep calling. I tried 3 days ago to get a concierge room at AKL in Oct. (switched my dates from the weekend you're asking about, as a matter of fact). At that time there was no concierge available and I was pretty bummed. Last night I called again and got a concierge room for my dates!:Pinkbounc Availability really can change...

I called around 10 today and after a very short wait got 10 nites November 7th-16th at the AS Sports. Maybe you are trying another resort? Don't give up. I have had times when I had to call and call to get what I want but never failed to get it.

Good luck and hope you are there when we are.

I would call back. I just tried the dates you gave on www.disneyworld.com and put in All-Star Movies and Port Orleans Riverside just to see if they showed availability. They had standard and preferred view at ASM, and a bunch of views at POR.

Hope this helps!

I have ressies for Nov. 7-10th but I WANT Nov. 6-9th and CAN'T Get IT! So, I am leaving it the way it is for now!:o

Pooh123, so nice to see you posting and am amazed to see that you will be there the same time as we will. I refuse to ask if we can plan a meet cause by my calculations we have tried twice and failed and if I do not plan it might actually happen. LOL

I think people have been so reluctant to travel due to 9-11 and the slow economy. Now that economy is showing some kind of life, people tired of being couped up are deciding to venture out again. November is a good time to visit Florida because the hurricane season is just about over with and the temperatures are still consistently warm.

Sorry, I think I am brain dead right now.:o

What is FTP?

I did check the web site and they said they have availability at a couple of places, so I called back six times since and there is still nothing available with CRO. I'm not looking for a specific resort or special rates, just on property. I know I can keep calling back and persistence does prevail, but the last time this happened to me I did finally get ressies and as it turned out Brittany Spears was there and crowds were horrible (3 hour waits @ AK Safari). I think what I have to decide now is if it is even worth going that week if the crowds are going to be bad, that's why I am trying to find out if anyone knows if anything similar to the Brittany experience may be happening. I made the mistake of not asking this question last time it happened but when I got home I posted about the problem on the DIS and found out a day late and a dollar short that two DIS moms knew about Brittany filming a video there that week. Should have asked the fellow DIS'ers before I booked.:o

Thanks for everyone's help! I really do appreciate it very much.

I think that time period might be what's referred to as NJ week. Although I've lived in NJ all my life my DD isn't in school yet so I'm not sure of the dates. However, early in Nov is teachers convention and schools are closed for several days. Many families use the break to go to WDW.

The rooms listed on the official Disney website are not necessarily the same block of rooms available to CMs when you call CRO. I know last year I called CRO several times and they had nothing over the Christmas period. However, those exact dates on-line showed availability in several resorts. Also keep in mind that AAA rooms and Disney Club rooms and Annual Pass rooms are normally in separate blocks. Sometimes even when they've told me there's no availability, I've been able to snag a AAA room instead.

When I look on-line there's lots of availablility - Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, AKL, Yacht Club, All Stars, Caribbean Beach. Of the ones I checked, only the Polynesian wasn't available at that time. I was checking for 2 adults + 2 children (non-smoking).

My family will be there November 8 to 15 at the Yacht Club. The only things I know for sure are Super Soap weekend Nov 8-9, the last week of Food & Wine Festival, and Veterans Day. Jersey week is the week prior but does extend to Vet Day so a lot of Jersey people may be extending their vacations.

on our last trip to wdw, in february, we booked again for 11/6-11/16 at asmu.

now, i am freaking out!!! is it going to be so crowded that i can't stand it? i know about SSW and F&W, but will we be able to navigate the parks with all the rooms booked?

eeeeeek!

I just hope everyone's gone when I get there on the 17th. :p

dcgrumpy Ha! You definitely need the "grumpy" in your name - LOL. I'll make sure my family is gone so you can enjoy yourself.

Things chane all of the time. I think the Soap weekend may knock out that weekend for you, but keep calling.

Our dates are 11/10-17

When we originally cahnged our ressies to the FTP, I wanted to upgrade to the Polynesian from CBR. DH said if I could keep it under two thousand we could swing it. I called as soon as the dates for the package was extened into November. All I could get was the Lagoon view, and it was 2400 and change, which was a difference of over a thousand from our CBR ressies. I was told all of the garden views were gone. I called last week to see if I could get a garden view, and not only was I able to (and I only went over my 2000 threshold by 17!) but I was also able to change my Mom's room from CBR into the Dreammaker package with a garden view.

I know it's a hassle to keep calling, but it always seems to change there, almost be the hour. Also, my Mom's final payment is due at the end of September and my DC final payment is 10/20. If people are going to cancel for some reason, it will be soon, since the money is due soon. Things may open up.

Good luck.

We are also going that week. We aren't arriving till the 9th, leaving on the 16th. As everyone else has posted - Jersey week is the week before - the long holiday weekend with Veteran's Day affects all states - and that Particular weekend is Super Soap Weekend at MGM - the last week of the Food & Wine Fest, the Festival of Masters.....the list goes on and on! They also have all the people who booked Fairytale Packages, etc.

We chose this week, to get one more trip in before our AP's expire, as we will not be renewing them. We are taking the in-laws - so it will not be a commando trip, thank goodness! This was the only time that DH was off, no sports or specials going on with the kids - no midterms - start of new marking period - and our school district has Mon-Tues off, so they will only miss 3 days of school!

We made ressies about 1 1/2 weeks ago (the deposit is due on the 4th.) At that time - Mousesaver's was saying no AP discounts were on the horizon - so I booked with an AAA discount of 15%. I found no availability for the Contemporary except the Tower at full rack rate - since they are booked up the weekend of the 14-16 for a convention, and they still have SOG there! I was able to make a ressie for AKL Concierge and the WL Woods view no problem with AAA. In fact - the CM said I should be able to convert to AP rates when they were released with no problem.

After AP rates were announced - I was on the phone that morning at 6:55 am - I was told that no deluxe discounts were offered for the 9th or 10th - as that is Super Soap weekend, and the stars are all staying on the various concierge floors. I was able to add the 3rd night of the 11th at an AP rate, then got a rock bottom rate for Poly concierge for the other 4 nights! There was nothing available at the BC - and only expensive rooms at the BWI and YC, since it is the last week of the food & wine. I'd rather stay concierge at the Poly, for less money, and have to ride the monorail to the F&W, than spend extra for less!

So - keep trying - I had about 7 ressies at one point - although I have now cancelled all but the 3 I am using. I still hope to convert those two nights of AAA to AP later on!

Sept. 11th is the due date for deposits for all those AP checkers - the 12th is probably a good day to check what's out there!

Either way - I think we will bypass the parks on the 9th & 10th for the most part!

I took the liberty of using your travel dates on Expedia and found that:

All Stars Movie, Music, and Sports
Caribbean Beach
Coronado Springs
Fort Wilderness Cabins
Port Orleans Riverside

all show complete stays. The others show partial availablities (some nights are available, some aren't). If you call CRO, try to split up your stay. I think that if you use those dates, and 1 night or more in your dates aren't available, the whole stay will be shown as unavailable.

You can check here for an idea of what you might want to try to break up your stay:

http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=htfv&itid=&itdx=&itty=&from=f

Personally, I would take the first night at the Beach Club in a standard view, and the last 7 nights in an Animal Kingdom savannah view! :)

Have you tried to divide your stay between different resorts? I had the same problem when I was trying for the 9th - 16th a few weeks ago...only AS Sports. But when I tried for 3 days at Poly and 4 days at OKW, no problem. I actually had many choices. I think it's fun to switch resorts, anyway.
