What's with the Jesus skywriting?

Remus,

I know this is sooooo off topic, but what happened to your fabulous cartoon?

Because too many people find it offensive in the USA. There was a link a few weeks back, where someone taped it when it was shown in uk and has it on their utube page.

I guess I just keep thinking the other thread was locked for a reason.

I believe in God, I don't care if they write it in the sky. If that makes that person feel good. And apparently, it has brought a smile to a few peoples faces.

But, this is a disboard for THEME PARK ATTRACTIONS & STRATEGIES, that is all I am saying.........goodbye and I'll see you around other topics.

Have a magical day.

Ah! Thanks. Do you have a straw? 'Cause otherwise I would have to tip my head back to drink and I might look up ...

*smirks* Yup, you're right, i wish people who did things like this skywriting, and the other who think it's a good idea, would remember that.

I guess I don't care either way, writing in the sky or not, if people want to waste their money, go ahead!
But as long as it's not that crazy religious group that wants people to boycott Disney, and yes, there is one out there, search google, you can see how crazy it is!

This guy is spending thousands and thousands of dollars to put this message in the sky. Why? Is he afraid people who believe are going to suddenly forget their faith and need a reminder (and would Jesus want you to need such a crass reminder)? No, he's doing it to upset the people who are not of that faith. Some people can't handle that others don't believe the same as they do and the "others" must be wrong (just look at his site...), and need to over-compensate by doing something like this.

What bothers me the most is the waste of money. It costs thousands and thousands of bucks to maintain licenses, a plane, fuel (you think it costs a lot to fill up your SUV? LOL), etc. How many hundreds of meals for hungry people, or how much good could that money do a church that needs repair or to help a Make A Wish family get to WDW one last time. Think of the joy that money could REALLY bring.

But what does it do? Gives some people who already believe a smile, and just irritates everyone else. Seems like such a massive waste of money and effort when that same money could be used to promote the true principles of Christianity (love, caring, helping our fellow man) instead of writing crass graffiti.

I'm a Christian and I agree with this. :thumbsup2 ::yes::

This skywriting is bad advertising in my opinion and distracts from what the real important issues are.

I think I'm going to stick with coffee today

I'm surprised more people are not pitching a big ole fit because Disney puts on a Christian music festival every year. (Night of Joy)
Imagine Disney having a special event for us Christians. GASP!

I wear my Jesus shirts to WDW all the time and you know what? the only coments I get are from cast members who say they love my shirts and even ask where I got them. :)

I'm fine with Night of Joy. Disney is open to a variety of events for many different causes and groups. However, those who are non-Christian can easily choose not to attend and therefore not be exposed to the religious element of NoJ. It's a little harder to avoid giant words in the sky.

Okay, completely missed the last thread. But why did it get locked???
How could people make an issue of this one??

We saw it in March while we were there for a Cheerleading competition! :cheer2:

I have no idea, the discussion got a little heated and sarcastic, primarily me being the one to use a little sarcasm, but I never saw anything really rude or offensive or any name calling, I'm not sure why they locked it.

Apparently some peeps on her are really offended by someone sky writing things about Jesus at WDW, and they "dont want to be bothered by peeps trying to convert them when they are on vacation."

Would you be offended if I hired a skywriter to write "GAY LOVE" over WDW?

I'm thinking about a 'Visit Universal Studios' flyover. that'd really tick a bunch of people off.

LOL though I doubt a tag fairy would grab one from this thread, "Unless it's a Mickey Mouse head I find it offensive." is something I wouldn't mind being branded with. ;)

I think this is where I am confused; don't see this as a "tolerance" issue at all. It has nothing to do with my agreement or disagreement with people that believe in Jesus.

I would be just as offended if someone wrote "GO MIAMI DOLPHINS" as graffiti in the sky. Now, I'm sure some Miami Dolphins (they are a team, right? sorry, not into sports here) fans would find it cool, but if you agree with graffiti or not, it's still graffiti. In much of the country skywriting is illegal for these very reasons. When at WDW, I don't want to see ANYTHING written on the sky, again, unless it's got a Mickey Head on it, LOL. It completely wrecks the illusion that WDW tries to preserve of being seperate from the outside world.

The person who is doing this is not a WDW guest. It would be far, far different to me if a guest were expressing their views. If someone wanted to walk around WDW wearing a "JESUS LOVES ME!" t-shirt, carrying a bible, and reading aloud scripture, I wouldn't complain. I'd walk away, but I wouldn't complain (unless my family and I were specifically targeted, followed around, etc., just as with ANYONE who did such things). It's their right to wear and say what they want. But when you write it across the sky, OBVIOUSLY only to upset people or intrude on WDW, it becomes offensive.

I guess that's also what irritates me about this (different from offensiveness). The motovation for this person doing this (and yes, I saw the website) is not altruistic. It's simply to cause a stir and get people upset. Those of you who are pleased by it are the by-product; it's not being done for you.

This guy is spending thousands and thousands of dollars to put this message in the sky. Why? So it has nothing to do with religion, again. I'd say the same thing about people who said "GO MIAMI DOLPHINS". Spend your time and money on something other than an act that is not going to win you followers. It's just incredibly selfish of him to do this, in my eyes.

NED

I get your point. That guy is probably just some rich Christian pilot with nothing else to do on his hands, and he probably feels like his sky writing is kind of his art work or something. I still don't think its that big of deal, even if it said "Go Yankees". I still would probably not care, but I get your point about WDW trying to maintain the fantasy other world element.

Oh Darlin', I posted on a thread about long siggys and Webmaster Kathy noted some of us had some long ones so I had to shave a li'l off. I knew I shouldn't have posted on that Tar Baby thread, it was a trap I got caught up in. :lmao:

We just returned today from a week at WDW. On Monday and Tuesday of last week we saw a skywriter over the parks and resorts. We were at Epcot when at first, he just made a a cute smilely face in the sky and we took a picture of it. Then the skywriter continued for hours writing messages about Jesus. It was very odd. It happened at least two days maybe more but we did not see it. We couldn't help wondering if anyone knows who this skywriter is or who is sending him over WDW with these messages. My first thought was that something wasn't right about this because I thought the FAA has a no-fly zone over all of WDW because of security. Anybody know the scoop on this?

we saw it, too! I'm not sure about the no-fly zonee, though... I know I've seen helicopters doing tours over the properety before.

I personally could care less. There are so many other things to worry about in this world. I am happy that I can go to Disney, walk on my own to feet, look up at the sky, and heck - even see the sky!

P.S. You do have some great points but I just don't let this kind of stuff bother me. :goodvibes

lovethattink, I think you misunderstood Becca's question coz I'm not involved with that situation you're talkin' about. Becca is talkin' about a political cartoon I had on my siggy for a few days. :)

I think most Christians would go out of there way to not support a group like this. Any group that is anti-disney to the point of formal protests etc., are a bunch of nut cases in my opinion. There is nothing remotely link-able in the bible for the basis for any reason to be anti-disney. These are probably the same peeps that won't recognize modern medicine. That's beyond silly, and in my opinion stating that the bible supports their belief to protest and be this anti-disney is in itself anti-Christian for it puts words or concepts in the bible that are not there and not supportable. To me something like that is the equivalent to creating your own religion, not based on Christianity at all. Its the USA and they are certainly free to do that, and peeps are certainly free to start their own religions, but its not Christian in my opinion. If Jesus lived today he would be a diser!!!!!!

So let's get the skywriter to write:
