What's with the Jesus skywriting?

What bothers me the most is the waste of money. It costs thousands and thousands of bucks to maintain licenses, a plane, fuel (you think it costs a lot to fill up your SUV? LOL), etc. How many hundreds of meals for hungry people, or how much good could that money do a church that needs repair or to help a Make A Wish family get to WDW one last time. Think of the joy that money could REALLY bring.

That's what irritates me as well. The person/people behind this could be doing TRUE good with that money, and truly witnessing for their faith. Instead it is wasted in a temporary message that ticks off many and pleases few.

I think most Christians would go out of there way to not support a group like this. Any group that is anti-disney to the point of formal protests etc., are a bunch of nut cases in my opinion.

do a google serarch on disney and the Southern Baptist Convention. While they have called off the boycott, they certainly had a lot to say about Disney a few years ago. They are one of largest (if not the largest) Protestant group in the United States. My guess is that they would support the skywriter's work.

are they nutcases because of that support? that's not for me to say.

I dont understand why people are bothered with it.if someone wrote praise allah in the sky it wouldnt bother me.

I think its awesome what the skywriter is doing and I think God is looking down at him smiling.

I saw the JF guy when I was there from 9/21 to 9/27. Didn't offend me at all, if anything I found it kind of amusing since sometimes by the time he got to the last letter of the last word, the rest would be faded. Most of these fundamentalist types are fairly harmless and some dude writing religious propaganda isn't going to make a difference to me one way or another. At least he's not ringing my doorbell, or trying to shove a pamphlet in my face on the street. If it really bothers you, don't look. Just hope that everyone would be as tolerant if someone rented a plane and wrote, "Praise the Goddess" or "Praise Buddha" etc. What's good for one religious group is good for all. Just my 2 cents.

I think the point is, if we were to presume to speak for God, that he'd be looking down and smiling a lot more if this guy were using the thousands of bucks and tons of time this must be costing him to instead directly affect peoples lives.

I think He cares more about feeding hungry people, housing homeless people, and actually helping fellow man than crass uses of His Son's name that at most gives a smile to those who already believe, and at worst offends those that have been at the recieving end of people using the name Jesus to promote hate, not love.

I don't think anyone is going to go through their whole life not being "saved" and suddenly see the name "Jesus" in graffiti in the sky and then turn Born-Again.

But then again, I don't identify myself as "Christian", so what do I know.

He was there yesterday. He was very high, the highest I have ever seen a skywriter. And very far south of WDW property. So far and high that he was making huge letters. Took quite a while to make each letter. Fierce upper winds were dissipating the letters that he could not write a fourth letter before the first was unreadable.

I personally could care less. There are so many other things to worry about in this world. I am happy that I can go to Disney, walk on my own to feet, look up at the sky, and heck - even see the sky!

So it's a pay-for-salvation thing, I've got ya. So someone can spend their whole life "sinning", but if they spend money getting out the "Jesus" message, they will be remembered and rewarded.

It doesn't matter if he gets it for "free" or not, he is using resource doing something futile.

If you "believe" in that stuff, does it make you believe harder by seeing that? If it does, I'm sorry, but then that "belief" can't be very secure. If it makes you smile, great. But is that worth bothering others when there is so much else to smole about?

If you don't "believe", it's just going to irritate you, or not affect you. In either case, NOTHING positive comes out of this.

He's obviously picking WDW for a reason, to make a statement. I just wish he wasn't so selfish in his beliefs that he tries to ruin the magic for the people who don't agree with him.

How do you know that this guy doesn't own several soup kitchens, battered women's shelters, supports St. Jude and several other children's organizations...etc., etc., etc.?

My point...you never know. Maybe he has enough money (more than any normal person could ever imagine) and he IS helping others. We don't know who he/she is, what they do with their time or money (or how much of it they have) so how can we judge how his/her money is spent??

I agree. As another poster said, I'm not going to convert just because I read that "Jesus Loves Me" in the sky!!!! It doesn't make be stronger in my belief nor does it weaken my beliefs. It doesn't bother me. Period. : ) Either way.

As far as his "being selfish", I just don't get that. It's not like a permanent fixture and as another poster stated...it fades even before he finishes the sentence. If he's selfish so are a million + Americans every day...Should I get pi**ed off because of the Calvin Klein add showing a guy in his boxers? Should I be mad as he** because of the "We Bare All" boards on the drive down to Disney? How about the anti-abortion or pro-life bumper stickers, TV commercials about feminime products and erectile dysfunction, Christian Radio, BTV, Spanish Channels, Religious TV and radio stations...I could go on and on and on but the thing is...everybody is selling something. I just don't let it bother ME.

And as far as nothing positive coming from it...it makes the guy that's doing it happy! (Sorry!) It makes Christians happy. Just because it doen't pertain to you, you're annoyed?

The point...you can't censor the guy in the sky no more than you can sensor the billboards, the tv commercials, the bumper stickers, the radio shows and advertisements and so on and if that's the way you want this country to be...move to North Korea.

Actually the point of this story (the woman and the perfume) is to show: That it's what's in the heart of the person (her intentions) that count. It was more a "why" she was doing what she was doing than the "what". It's also a story of judgement. That we as people are quick to judge other's actions, based on what we see and think. Whereas the God of this story is looking into the full intentions/heart of this and knows her true intentions. Which in this case was repentence.
