Wow! I can't believe this thread is still going on but I just had a little thought (well...maybe not so little!)
To some people it's natural to believe what you believe. You either grew up around it or were flat out raised a certain way, such as Catholic or Jewish for example. Others may have been raised in a different religion or not in one at all. And let's face it, some of the stories and practices of different religions can be downright strange and therefore overwhelming and hard to believe to a non-believer let alone to some who believe. We all have our comfort levels.
What some find so natural may make another person uncomfortable or offend them. Why is that so wrong? I was raised Pentecostal and my husband, Catholic. I can tell you that if my DH were to step foot in the Pentecostal church that I was raised in, he would probably high-tail it out of there and never return. Now I wouldn't think that raising your hands to praise the Lord, or shouting from the pulpit or speaking in tongues is strange because that is what I saw growing up. To DH, well, it's just plain freaky!!
So, my point is, maybe we just need to accept that the message that "God loves you" just might freak someone even though it's doesn't offend you. Maybe we need to accept that it bothers those of other faiths. Maybe we need to accept that it just might even bother someone of a Christain faith because they feel it's inappropriate or tacky to see at a Theme Park, while on vacation.
Any way you look at it, people have a right to be and feel comfortable no matter what.
Personally, I really don't care what the sky-writer writes. There are many things out there that I read that don't pertain to me, or I feel, are inappropriate - billboards, newspaper ads, commercials, even some cartoons. But, there is nothing that I can do about it so I just accept it, don't have to like it, and move on. I don't let it ruin my day or vacation for that matter but I just wanted to say that I
can see the other side of the fence now and you won't "hear" any lectures or finger wagging from me - only understanding.
Peace, Love and Mickey Mouse!
