What's the weirdest thing you have intentionally eaten?

I would have to say mine would be escargot and alligator. I like them both. :earseek:

Then rabbit, squirrel, pheasant and octopus. I don't care for the game food but the octopus, as long as it's fried, was good. I wouldn't have the gamey animals again.

Probably pork rinds. There are not many things that I will try.

Probably frog legs and snapping turtle. If beverages are included, I can recall a time as a kid when I'd sometimes drink a "suicide" (all the pop flavors mixed together  ).

Hundred Year Old Eggs - A Chinese specialty, duck eggs cured with lime. Burried for 100 days and then served.

I've seen several things about those. What did you think? Is it something you would eat again?

Probably alligator but it was fried into crunchy breaded nuggets so I didn't really notice if it tasted strange. I've had 100-year-old eggs and I like those too!

Lewski709 -- What does squirrel taste like? I keep picturing the little critters who keep running around my backyard. :p

I went to a sushi bar that had Iguana roll on it's menu. Someone in our party ordered it, and I tried it. It was kind of yucky. I still am not sure whether or not it was a real Iguana. I kind of thought that they were an endangered species.

DH and I once split an appetizer that had buffalo, alligator and rattlesnake. The alligator and rattlesnake did taste just like chicken. I buffalo was a little too gamey for my taste.

When we were in China adopting DD many Chinese people tried to strike up conversations and even invite us for tea. We happily talked to many people but were leary of going off with anyone we didn't know. However, another couple in our travel group did go have tea with this man and he ordered food for them to share. The couple thought one of the things he had ordered was duck but it turned out it was dog  . It's a delicacy in Southern China.

Yep, those are the ones. But they taste really gamey and are tough. Much like rabbit is. I can't explain it any better than that. I imagine if it had BarBQue sauce or something on it, the only thing one would notice is the toughness.

They don't taste like chicken.

I've had turtle and frog legs too. Turtle...pass me on that again. Frog legs, I like them a lot.

I can't stand VENISON (deer). I've eaten Ostich and Buffalo burgers too. Don't care for them but Ostrich is very high in protein and lean. :crazy2:

I hear cats, dogs, horse and bugs are too. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_1_119.gif' border=0></a>

No thanks!

I had similar experiences in Japan. I was always a little leary of the large bowls of soup that were served so often. I was never quite sure exactly what was swimming around in there.

Probably whatever the chef could get his hands on  . With the exception of seafood I was a vegetarian on our trip. Much safer that way.

I ate bark off a tree when I was little.

As for actual food, I tried alligator (or crocodile, can't remember which!) and kangaroo in Austraila. Won't be trying them again.

A worm on a dare. Sashimi-style.

Real food...cow brains. Not bad cooked.

Chocolate covered insects.:scared1: Someone brought them to work and they were supposedly from some exotic port-of-call. There were ants and bees(I think...it was a loooonnngg time ago).

They weren't all that remarkable. Kind of like the consistency of rice crispies covered in chocolate. I probably wouldn't do it again(unless there was $$$ at stake).

I enjoy escargot, frogs legs, and a cajun place here used to serve a really good rabbit appetizer. I also tried squid ink pasta one time.:D

Bear meat...only because my MIL said she would try it if I did (I don't eat much meat). I shocked her!!

My DH's grandmother loves squirrel brains--cooked in the skull. Talk about gross...

squirrel - cooked it myself, pretty good but I don't think I would eat it again.
alligator which was good.
octupus which was really gross but it was at a bad chinese restaurant so maybe that's why.
I once ordered frog legs but couldn't eat one bite because I couldn't get the picture of a green slimy thing out of my head.

:p
