What's the smallest commercial airport you've used?

I can’t remember if this airport was in the Midwest somewhere but it was so small that the person checking us in was the same person who got us thru security and was also the gate agent.

Probably Kona International Airport for me as well.

No jetways and except for the bathrooms it was all outside. There is a roof over some but not all. We sat outside under the stars waiting for our flight to the US to end our vacation.

Did you exchange your currency before returning to the US?

Waco, TX. Never have I ever gotten to an airport before it opened, at 1pm at that.
Wow. Never been to an airport that wasn't open 24/7. Even if there weren't any services, some people might be sleeping in the terminal if there was a delay or maybe they got there really early.

Inyokern Airport near Ridgecrest, CA near Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. this was maybe 35 years ago, the plane was 14 passenger prop-jet. no terminal just a waiting room. you carried your bags to the plane and hand them to the co-pilot to stow in the back.

I was thinking more like a really, really small terminal building with security and everything. There are quite a few general aviation airports that have some sort of limited passenger service without mandated security. Surf Air flies to a lot of general aviation airports like San Carlos and Concord. They also fly out of Oakland, but in the general aviation area without going through regular security.

In the heart of downtown Toronto, on an island in our harbour we have Billy Bishop/Toronto Island Airport. YTZ

11 gates.. small by international airport standards, award winning and very easy access to the city centre just 2.5 km away. Access to the island airport is by ferry or by an underground walking path under the water of the shipping channel at the west end of the Toronto harbour.
Several airlines Porter, Air Canada, GTAair.. have service to both domestic and international (to the USA) destinations.

You know the “real” US, the mainland. :)

Was the same trip we took a hike out to the lava with the help of Kalapana Cultural Tours who appeared to be very much against state hood.

If you can’t get Amazon prime delivery in 2 days, it’s not the US. That leaves out Alaska as well.

Kapalua Airport on Maui. It’s a tiny airport with one runway on the west side of the island. The first time I went it was only used by one airline, but a second airline started using it in recent years.

Passenger wise is GSO - Greensboro for commercial

Non-commercial - does a grass field that ends at the pine trees count? Just barely long enough to take off and land the small 4 seater Piper airplane. That was fun!

Colorado Springs Airport, back in....geez, October 2001. Scary times. It seems a lot bigger now than it did then.

I didn't fly in and out of here but DH did: Elko NV airport 1998. Little planes. http://www.flyelkonevada.com/
ETA: this was literally a 10 minute drive from our apartment, and 10 minutes the other way from DH's work. The fun of living in a small town.

Years ago I remember flying into Long Beach and being very surprised to deplane on the tarmac. The surprises continued when we walked into a terminal that was all but tucked in for the night at around nine p.m. When we got our luggage and got to the car rental counter the clerk asked, are you the Cabanafrau's or the Smith's? Once he took care of those two rentals he was done for the night.

My favorite small airport is Flint Bishop. I think it has six gates. You park directly across the street, no charge, board a free shuttle that takes to across to the terminal. When you return you tell the shuttle driver your aisle and section and type and color of car and they drop you off directly behind your vehicle. Flying would be so much more pleasant if all airports were like this.

Marsh Harbour in the late 70's or early 80's. Three sided shed to clear into the country, and we landed on a a rutted grass lane.
