With all these threads about Yankee Candle I just have to ask.

Is there a difference between a real Yankee Candle and say a cheap Wal Mart scented candles?

I guess the price is the biggest difference but anything else?

What's the real difference

Kind of the difference between cheap perfume and the goof stuff.

Some of the candles do smell like something a woman of the night would wear

Cheap, ratsrule. They smell cheap LOL ;)

Yankee Candle has a scent that will burn all the way thru the candle and the cheap ones only have the scent on the outside and usually when they burn they don't carry the "aroma/scent" that the yankee candles do.

I also think cheaper candles burn faster.

Couldn't I buy 2 or 3 cheap candles and let them burn instead of buying into this Yankee Candle craze?

High quality candles also burn better. They retain a better shape as they burn.

Another difference is the materials used in the candles themselves. A lot of the cheaper brands have lead in the wicks.

ratsrule,

If you're skeptical, why not buy a small Yankee Candle and try it. A few years ago, like you, I was really skeptical that there could be that much of a difference (other than cost) between Yankee and the cheap store brand. Well, I bought my first one and I was hooked! I have one in almost every room in my house! They stay scented until the last burn and definitely burn longer than the cheap ones, and the variety of scents available is awesome! I will NOT burn any other brand in my home anymore. Give Yankee a try, but be warned, they are addictive!;)

Can I use them to eliminate odors?

We could use a few in the bathroom

Yankee Candles are a whole lot better. I know the price is outragous, but I have just a tiny jar in each bathroom and in the kichen and it's not as expensive. The cheap ones do tend to have a fake kind of smell that doesn't even really smell when you light them. The YCs have a strong smell...even the smaller ones can make the majority of your house smell. We have a two-story house and when I light one in the hall bathroom upstairs the whole upstairs well have the scent.

FWIW the SO and I prefer Colonial at Home candles. I like dYankee Candles until I tried those. They do burn a little faster in comparison to YC.

Also YC last a long time.....I realized this but didn't really realize it until I was in the store the other day. I was purchasing a 14.whatever oz jar candle and the clerk told me that for only X amount more (like $2.50 or something) I could have the 22.whatever oz and it would give me 60 more hours of burning.

If you compare prices to some of the cheaper ones, which I have - I save money on the YC ones because they burn much longer. And the scent lasts throughout the whole entire candle!

Yankee Candles are simply the best. I know they are expensive, but they are fabulous. Their scent lasts from the very first burning to the very last and the aroma from one candle will waft through the house. Colonial Candles do have some nice jars as well, and I find them to be comparative in price to Yankee Candle, however I think Yankee Candle has a wider selection of fragrances. I think once you try them out, you will be hooked. My only complaint is with the small jars (3.5 I think), I don't feel as if they are as fragrant as the mid and large size jars. The tarts are also fabulous as far as the scent.
