Whats the point of MGM big HAT?

I'm glad there are others who don't like the hat at MGM. I remember my first trip to MGM in 1990 and how I loved it because I felt like I had stepped back into the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Chinese Theatre at the end of the street made it look perfect. The hat destroyed all that.

The Earful Tower is in the back stage area parking lot.

Keep the hat, but move it to Fantasmic.

Get rid of the Big Wand, and the tombstones.

on another note.. since the put that hat there... it has ruined the largest hidden mickey in WDW. the hat sits on his nose. look at satelite photos and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Guess I am odd person out. I like the hat.

You all are going to hate me but I really have no feeling either way. I saw it before the hat and I saw it with the hat and to me it is just Disney trying to change and and give you something new to look for when arriving at one of their parks. I now look for the hat. I know I am weird. I am one of those that goes with the flow because I just love Disney so much!!!

I'll go out on a limb and say that I like the wand on SE! AND the hat! I think the TOT should be the DS icon.

I like the wand on Spaceship Earth, too. But the hat needs to go! Same for the Legacy tombstones! I couldn't believe it when I saw those things!

When they put up the "Hat" there was talk that the theatre would come down because of the posibility of not being able to use the title "MGM" anymore. AND they put it up for the Walt's 100th celebration.... and it stayed.
And I think they needed a true "Disney" icon, specific to that park that you can see from the entrance. The water tower could not be seen.

Anyway..... I like the hat, but it just doesn't seem placed in the right spot.

Also..... PLEASE..... wish they would get rid of the "graveyard"!!!! That has got to be the ugliest thing they ever did!!

And we can only hope and pray they put the castle back to it's original state after the 50th. The gold was okay to look at for one trip.... but I am over it!

i agree the hat and epcot wand thing are tacky( imojmoimho ) they look like something they just stuck there after it was already built...oh wait they are something they just stuck there after it was built.

maybe so they could sell hat/wand/tombstone keychains...?

btw i wondered if they made the tombstones so big incase they ever want to sell the inside space of each as the real thing. i mean wouldn't that be the ultimate ...what disney fanatic wouldn't want to be entombed at wdw?

I like the hat at MGM. I think it gives MGM some personality. And like other people said, you can't reach the water tower, so that's not a good symbol for the park. It does ruin the view of the Great Movie Ride, but you still get a good view of it if you walk thru the hat.

I also love the wand on Spaceship Earth. I though SE without the hand and wand is kinda dull. And the Leave a Legacy I think is wonderful. I didn't leave one, but I think its special and pretty. I love walking through there and looking at the pictures of people who had a magical experience throughout the years.

And I hope they get rid of all the decorations on Cinderellas Castle. I think they will ruin the symbol of WDW. I think they are beautiful for the Happiest Celebration on Earth, but they should take them down once its done.
