Our Disney coach driver told us to look at the Dolphin and Swan buildings and find the "mistake". Well, except that the Dolphin is the fish - Mahi Mahi and not a porpoise - we couldn't figure it out.

Maybe someone reading this will have the answer because it's really "bugging" us!

Help!
Thanks in advance!

I think the "mistake" he is talking about is at the top of the building with the huge icons.

In this photo the icons at the top is the dolphin fish and those urn like looking things (which are actually fountains!)

Don't you think the Dolphin should have the clam shells (fountains) and the Swan have those urn like thingys?

Also, the design on the Dolphin building (in the bricks) has a grass like design, and the Swan has the wave like design...I always thought the Dolphin should swim with the waves, and the Swan should swim within the tall grass.

But I could be wrong! ;)

These two resorts are absolutely beautiful during the night when they are all lit up!

I just enjoyed looking at those great pix! The info was a bonus! ;)

Thanks, Blondie! :)

Thanks for the pictures and the information - this could be exactly what the driver was talking about. And I tend to agree - clam shells would have looked more appropriate with the fish and the fountains with the swan.

Again, thanks!
Merry Christmas!

That's very interesting - and makes perfect sense that they switched it up and goofed a little. Loved the pics of the Swan and Dolphin.

And that little girl is ADORABLE!!!!!

My second cousin, who used to work at WDW while in college, once told us that when the Dolphin was built, it had water cascading down the sides of the tower, but they soon had to discontinue that because the water would fly off and get the passers-by wet.

I once heard a rumor that when they resort was built the large Icons of the Swan and Dolphin were accidentally installed on the wrong buildings, but that is just an unfounded rumor! LOL!

has a grass like design, and the Swan has the wave like design
It is supposed to be kelp (seagrass) not regular or sawgrass and I believe even small lakes can have waves. You are putting WAY too much thought into this.
had water cascading down the sides of the tower
Nope.

Both buildings were designed by Micheal Graves. The funny looking dolphins are the mythological symbol for water which is what Mr. Graves wanted displayed throughout the buildings.

There are blue tiles throughout both property in "wave-like" shapes once again signifying water.

Everything in both hotels are more representative, than the actual building or icon itself.

There also was never water cascading down the building of the Dolphin. There was and is a very large waterfall as you exit the lobby walking towards the Swan. And yes, if it is a windy day you want to walk in the opposite direction that the wind is blowing so you don't get wet!

I am curious to know what the answer is to the bus driver's question.........I worked at the resort for 7 years and can tell you many stories I heard that were hysterical, but so not true!

In July 01 we went on the Epcot fireworks cruise, and our skipper said the "black squares" on the Swan & Dolphin are where a monorail line would have gone through both properties. I have no idea how credible this is; it's just what he told us.

Maybe the bus driver just wanted to have a "one up on you" moment.
Apparently from all the replies, this seems to be the case.

Thank you all for writing - guess the mystery of the Dolphin is really just one big rumor!

SMILES!

I wish I could LINK ya'll to a thread we had going two years ago!

No monorail in the dark spaces...OK?
NEVER was planned!
