What's the most beautiful song you've ever heard?

I love Amazing Grace but the new version by Chris Tomlin is especially moving to me:

CHRIS TOMLIN LYRICS

"Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

Ave Maria - Schubert Sends me to tears every time I hear it
Nessun Dorma as song by Pavarotti
Adagio for Strings - Barber
Clair de Lune - Debussy
Rhapsody on a Theme from Paganini- Rachmoninoff
Losing My Religion - REM
Dances with Wolves soundtrack - John Barry (Yes, I realize sometimes it sounds like Two Socks is on Mackinac Island after visiting Africa) John Barry does redo many of his themes but I still love his music!
The Journey/Kapano part III- Hans Zimmer Tears of the Sun
Chevaliers De Sangreal - Hans Zimmer The Da Vinci Code

Most songs by Josh Grobain. My personal favorite is "Don't Give Up". His voice is so soothing and the words have deep meaning.

Albinoni's Adagio in G
As far as Disney goes, my favorites are Once Upon A Dream from Sleeping Beauty and Someone's Waiting for You from the Rescuers.

Beautiful.....by Christina Aquilera.(spellcheck)?
Kerri

I love that song, too. It makes me almost teary every time I hear it. Especially when they I think of how they were saying (in the media) that she was ugly, etc. I think it's a very empowering song.

There are so many wonderful songs and as a lover of musicals there is a ton to choose from but this song is by far my favourite

I Believe my Heart from the Lady in White

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZInoaIvZSc

Whenever I look at you
the world disappears
all in a single glance so revealing
you smile and I feel as though
I've known you for years
how do I know to trust what I'm feeling?

I believe my heart
what else can I do
when ev'ry part of ev'ry thought
leads me straight to you

I believe my heart
there's no other choice
for now whenever
my heart speaks
I can only hear your voice

LAURA

The lifetime before we met
has faded away
how did I live a moment without you?
You don't have to speak at all
I know what you'd say
and I know every secret about you

I believe my heart
it believes in you
it's teling me
that what I see
is completely true
I believe my heart
how can it be wrong
it says that what I feel for you
I will feel my whole life long

BOTH

I believe my heart
and it believes in you
it's telling me
that what I see
is completely true

And with all my soul
I belive my heart
the portrait that it paints of you
is a perfect work of art

Oh, I thought of another one: Suddenly Seymour, from Little Shop of Horrors.

Lyrics:

[Seymour]
Lift up your head
Wash off your mascara
Here, take my Kleenex
Wipe that lipstick away
Show me your face, clean as the mornin'
I know things were bad, but now they're okay

Suddenly Seymour is standin' beside you
You don't need no makeup, don't have to pretend
Suddenly Seymour is here to provide you
Sweet understanding
Seymour's your friend

[AUDREY]
Nobody ever treated me kindly
Daddy left early
Mama was poor
I'd meet a man and I'd follow him blindly
He'd snap his fingers
Me, I'd say "sure."

Suddenly Seymour is standin' beside me
He don't give me orders
He don't condescend
Suddenly Seymour is here to provide me
Sweet understanding
Seymour's my friend

[SEYMOUR]
Tell me this feelin'll last till forever
Tell me the bad times are clean washed away

[AUDREY]
Please understand that it's still strange and fright'nin'
For losers like I've been it's so hard to say

[AUDREY]
Suddenly Seymour,
He purified me
Suddenly Seymour
He showed me I can
Learn how to be more
The girl that's inside me
With sweet understanding,
With sweet understanding,
With sweet understanding,
Seymour's my man!

[SEYMOUR] [Audrey] [Company]
Suddenly Seymour,
He purified you
Suddenly Seymour
Yes, you can
Learn how to be more
The girl that's inside you
With sweet understanding,
With sweet understanding,
With sweet understanding,
Seymour's your man

He Used to be a Lovely Boy -- Keane
Anna Begins -- Counting Crows
Hallelujah -- Jeff Buckley
Champagne Supernova - Oasis
The World I Know -- Collective Soul

"Unchained Melody" as sung by the Righteous Brothers
"in My Life" by the Beatles
"The Dance" as sung by Garth Brooks
"Time After Time" by Cindi Lauper.

I once saw an interview with Garth Brooks in which he was asked his 3 favorite songs he had recorded. He responded, " The Dance, The Dance, and The Dance." It's worth hearing even if you're not a Garth Brooks fan!

The Dance is about as close to perfect as you can get, but my favorite Garth song is The Change. That video, with him standing in front of images of the Oklahoma city bombing site, is chillbumpy, and the words are beautiful and powerful.

Another beautiful song: Volcano by Damien Rice.

And I love "Hey There" from the Pajama Game, as sung by John Raitt. Gorgeous!

Man this is a hard question!!!

Classical....Beethoven's 9th especially Ode to Joy. But I also love the 7th, too.

Contemporary.....there are so many but I absolutely love the mandolin part of Maggie May esp when they played it for a long time at his (Rod Stewart) concert.

I also like a piece that my middle son plays on his guitar all the time but have no idea the name.:goodvibes

Backstory: My father is a singer and guitar player in a variety band. Now he is not an emotional man. Honestly, I have seen him cry maybe a handful of times in my life and I am nearly thirty. He says I love you when you hang up the phone and so forth, but that is about as much emotion that the man shows. Anyway one night his band had to performe at a local club and my my suggested that I come along since I had not seen him sing lately. It was their anniversary, and mom was down that dad had to play.....

So I am sitting there chatting away with my mom, when I hear my father on the microphone say he had something special he needed to do for his beautiful wife. Mom and I were both shocked as he told the audience that it was there wedding anniversary and that he wanted to sing a song that described his love for my mother. He said that he was not able to hear this song without thinking what a wonderful woman she is.

He then sang, "You are so beautiful to me."

I watched my father get choked up on stage singing a song to my mother about how he felt about her. That song suddenly became the most beautiful song I have ever heard. It brings me to tears typing this now. I will remember that moment for the rest of my life.

For me, it has to be one of these fourteen:

"Winter"--Tori Amos (http://youtube.com/watch?v=2JygCvAmTlo)

"Silent Night"--Bing Crosby (http://youtube.com/watch?v=6_ZSUTaQCO0&feature=related)

My all-time favorite song is "Wedding Day At Troldhaugen" by Grieg. It really is at it's best when played by a piano soloist.

I also like:
"Cathedrals" by Jump Little Children.
"She" by Elvis Costello.
"Flower Duet" by Delibes (it's opera, but I promise you've heard it).
"The Olive Tree" by Felicia Sorensen (I'd be shocked if anyone has heard this, but it is gorgeous).
