what's the difference between reservation and vacation points

I have 2 reservations listed on the DVC website. One says reservation points used and one says vacation points used. What is the difference? Thanks.

hmmmm maybe it means....a trip you took already aka vacation points used and an upcoming trip you have reservations for aka reservation points????

I see the same terms on some of my bookings. I think they use 'reservation point' when it is outside the DVC system, and 'vacation' when it is a DVC resort. Does that look to be true for your? My Concierge Collection and Cruise bookings say 'reservation', while my SSR and VWL bookings say 'vacation'

Is one outside the DVC system? If you book a cruise for instance, those become reservation points, and can't be used for any DVC resort if you cancel.

nope they are both DVC. One is October at BWV and one is January at AKV.

That is a bug on the members' website that has been there since they first started taking reservations for AKV. It has been reported a few times but they never seem to get around to fixing it. I think they have forgotten all about it.

AKV reservations should list those points as vacation points, not reservation points. As others have posted, reservation points are points that are being used for something other than a DVC resort (a WDW hotel, a cruise, etc.) and remain reservation points even if the reservation is cancelled.

LisaS, you're right and I just never noticed. All of the upcoming and completed AKV stays are said to have been booked with "reservations points!" I rmember when AKV just came out, there were other problems with AKV points, the designation, not problems with being able to use them.

PEANUT1, well, we're all in the same boat! I do want to say that I've changed a few days over from AKV to BCV, so the glitch does not make it impossible to use the points at DVC's. I wonder if they will ever fix the system!

Could it be that the AKV are reservation points rather than vacation points because the units haven't been closed on yet? Once they are "officially" in the system, they will become vacation points. In other words, you can reserve units that are not really vacation homes yet. Maybe?

Nope. It really is due to the website bug LisaS posted about above.

I believe it has been fixed for AKV reservations going forward, but obviously not for reservations made while the website issues were occuring. It's nothing to worry about - MS knows about it and even thought the points are incorrectly listed as reservation points on the website, the MS and the computer know they are really vacation points.

It hasn't been fixed for reservations going forward as of this past June when I made reservations for next May.

Naw. What it should mean is that you used points outside of DVC resorts, canceled, and those points can now only be used for non-DVC reservations.

However, as mentioned above, in this case it just means the DVC computerators are messed up. First time for everything!
