What's the current room assignment method for OKW?

OK, what's the current deal with room assignments at OKW? Do I need to check in at 7am to get any of my requests? How are people doing with their requests, are some still able to be met, or should we just not make requests at all?

I keep reading info on how none of the requests are met when people check in, so i'm trying to figure out the best strategy to get at least a couple of requests met.

I'm not talking outrageous requests, but we usually request a top floor room of a 2 story building, giving at least 10 different buildings that would be OK.

How are people doing things now at OKW?

Thanks!

The best answer I can give is "no one seems to know"! It does seem to go mostly with "room ready", but not necessarily. Arriving at 7 under that policy MIGHT get you what was left over from the day before, which COULD be a HA room. We have never had much trouble checking into OKW around 1-2 pm. We rarely get into the room that early, but we have never had a bad room in about 20 stays. I usualy only request non-smoking for medical reasons, so my request list is very short.

I checked in on a Saturday in May around 4:00 and got all my requests. It's really luck of the draw. What size room did you reserve? If it's a studio or 1 bedroom, many are on the second floor with no third floor above because of the way the buildings were configured. There is a third floor but not above the 2 rooms on each end, just 2 bedrooms in the middle section. Type "A" on Doc's configuration summary.

You should get that one request without any problem, no need to show up at 7 am.

We checked in around 2 pm on Easter Sunday and had our choice of quite a few different rooms in all areas of OKW.

I made those exact requests 11 months ahead for our last trip to OKW in May and was given a ground floor HCA room far from the buildings I requested. The same thing (except it was a ground floor HCA room that had been smoked in) happened to us at OKW in September, 2004. In both cases we arrived after 8pm and were told this was the only remaining room. I was not able to get any satisfactory response from ANYONE at the resort and I spoke with two different front desk managers as well as the resort operations manager.

At this time, I would advise getting as early an arrival as possible or be prepared to get whatever is left over at the resort. In both cases, they gave us the option of moving the following day- but then you will be without a room from 11am until whenever they decide to provide the next room (in our case that was after 5pm).

Good luck!

We will hopefully be staying at OKW next March in a 2 bedroom and a studio. (waiting for 7 month window) I plan on asking for non-smoking and rooms close to each other and possibly close to main pool/HH. Our plane gets in at 6pm on a Saturday, so I assume we will get to the resort about 7-7:30pm. With requesting two rooms will they block them out ahead of time? Or will we be in trouble with our later flights? Can't do anything about the flights, but can stay at another resort one night if it is likely to be a big deal. The non-smoking and rooms close to each other are important - the location is not so much.

I returned from OKW yesterday after a week there, and it was "room ready". I went over to watch the check-in for several days(it was hot outside!), and it was always "room ready" as far as I could tell. Several people had to remind the CM about their requests in order to get them, except for non-smoking, which seemed to be the only one they were taking into consideration.

I had a grande villa, and had been booked specifically into a building with a golf course view due to my claustrophobia, so they told me that I would need to wait for it. They wouldn't give me a different villa, because I had been so specific about the necessity of lack of trees touching the villa, and they had checked the villa to be sure :earseek: There was actually a block prohibiting moving me! She said otherwise they were doing "room ready". :wave2:

Has anyone heard anything more about blocking rooms for people coming in on DME?

We checked in around 3:00 on Sunday June 5th. It was definitely room ready. The CM said they were expecting to check in around 300 rooms that day. I was able to "shop" a bit and got a great room while looking over my list and the map.
