What's special about the Magic?

I have read many posts here and elsewhere where people say that the Magic is their favorite ship. I've been on the Dream and the Wonder, and I thought the Magic was basically the same as the Wonder. That said, we are booked on the Magic for next summer and I'd love to hear why it's a favorite ship for some. (I already know we won't have the Aquaduck and the MDA, but we booked based on itinerary). Thanks!

The Magic has the Aquadunk. We had our best Disney cruise on the Magic last year even though it's not my favorite Disney ship. All things seemed to align (had to do with my daughter's age ore than anything else). The first time we sailed the Magic it wasn't so great - rooms were a little threadbare, mold in the bathroom, dining service wasn't good. We do find the Magic crowded - the atrium is small and gets so packed when events are happening. Kids were literally getting stepped on during the Christmas tree lighting. I know the Magic is the favorite of a lot of people but ours is the Fantasy. I'll be curious to read WHY people love it so much.

We’ve sailed on the Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy. DW has also sailed on the Dream with DD. We like the Magic for the people and the itineraries. Sailing on the same ship, particularly for longer itineraries like the transatlantic cruises, means that you get to know the cast members and they get to know your likes. I also think they are more relaxed on the longer cruises. Passengers are not working hard to experience everything in just a few days like might happen on a shorter cruise.

I found the Fantasy to be a bit too hectic for my taste, although I’m glad to have experienced both eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. With the recent hurricane damage in the eastern ports, we may not have an opportunity to visit Tortola or St, Thomas for some time.

The Magic just has an ambiance that's hard to describe, and unlike the other Disney ships for us. I think a big part of it is the people. Most of our favorite crew members are on the Magic, and all of the crew consistently make us feel like family when we're aboard. We also really like the smaller ship, and actually feel like things are more crowded on the larger ships. And they have shawarma! I know the Wonder does, too, but we found it to be very disappointing compared to the Magic.

We just got off our first cruise on the Magic, completing our grand slam. DW and I loved the Magic, second only to Fantasy. Cariocas was fantastic. The CMs had a real team approach and really had a well oiled machine quality. We prefer art nouveau over art deco, which is the only nod for Fantasy above Magic. Don't get me wrong, we loved/love Wonder & Dream, but we had superb experiences on Magic & Fantasy.

The Wonder is my favorite, but the Magic is home to the best show "Tangled". The Magic also gets great itineraries. I heard an interesting story from my Palo server last week. He said he would love to work on one the classics, but they never have any openings.

Wonder is definitely my favorite ship that I have been on, but that was the first ship we sailed on and I think ultimately for many people whichever ship was their first ends up being their favorite.

We saw the first show of Tangled in 2015 on the Magic. Other than that, we didn't really like the Magic as well, it felt small and the food wasn't as good. We sailed on Dream last year again and loved it. Now they are adding a Beauty and the Beast show, so our trip in January 2018 will have added excitement. I also think the Aquaduck on The Dream is better than the Magic version. The grand open area on the Dream with the staircase is more open and the chandeliers are amazing. My kids loved the star wars themed area in the kids' club.
For us, we love the Dream more, but we would love a chance to cruise on the Fantasy.

Wife and I have been on Magic four of eight DCL cruises (3 on Fantasy & 1 Wonder). Our first sail with the mouse, in 2008, was on the Magic EBPC, then, more recently, the Baltic Capitals, then last year B2B Med./Trans. Until the Dream has cruises of 7+days we will probably never sail with her (distance & expense). Somehow the Magic seems like going to visit an old friend. The other ships are friends, too, but not as old, if that makes sense. Each one is unique and lots of fun. Food and cast members change and are good or bad at random. We can't wait for the new ships to set sail and the new itineraries they will offer.

My son really liked the Magic's Aquadunk water slide.

That's only until Beauty and the Beast opens on the Dream!! Actually we loved Tangled but BATB is my all time favorite Disney stage show!

I want to thank those of you who took the time to tell me what you love about the Magic. For now we are done floating in a circle off the coast of Florida, and were looking into more appealing itineraries for us to try (we have already sailed to Alaska on the Wonder), so we will be sailing on it for our next vacation no matter what. Because of that, it's nice to hear that people still love the ship. Now if I end up totally seasick I might really regret this one, but I'll take meds and hope for the best. I also think the pool and slides will be of less importance when we are cruising in the frozen north. ;)

I'm lucky to have been on all the ships, done a few specialty cruises and even sailed on the maiden voyage for the Fantasy. However the first time I sailed on DCL was on the Magic so that ship has a special place in my memory which is why it remained my favorite ship.

For us, when it was just the Wonder and the Magic, we sailed the Magic second and immediately thought it was slightly classier and more regal than the Wonder, and it doesn't get the wear and tear the Wonder does by sailing twice a week. The crew is "better" in the sense that they are more used to sailing the 7 day or longer cruises and handle it better. And I think a lot of people are sentimental about the fact that she was the first ever Disney ship.

I've seen this mentioned before. Wondering if the same would apply to the Dream?

I know a lot of people were really upset when they made the Dream a 3 and 4 night cruise; many felt because it was so new and modern and bigger, it should be used for longer sailings. Cannot wait to see what they do with the next three ships!

I will be interested to see what they do with BATB. I was disappointed in DCL's Frozen adaptation.
