What's so great about O'Hana?

We've only been for dinner (2007), but with so many nice places to try I made a rule that for a repeat visit this year it had to get 3 votes out of 3 from me, DD and DH. Ohana was the only restaurant that passed the 3/3 test! DD loves the fun and the meat (she is a major carnivore) and DH and I love the banana bread pudding.

For what its worth the votes went :
Ohana 3/3
Chef Mickey 2/3
RFC (1/3)
Boma (1/3)
WCC (1/3)
Teppanyaki (now Teppan Edo) 1/3

The ones that didn't make the cut have been replaced by Tusker House, Tutto Italia, Coral Reef, Crystal Palace and either Le Cellier or HoB.

I've never been to the breakfast myself but I've heard nothing but good things about it .

I have been to the dinner and LOVED it. The food is spectacular, it has some great views, and the entertainment isn't half bad.

Just curious as to why Boma only got a 1. W're eating there in a week and we've heard nothing but great things about it.

Well not having read all thru' the thread so we maybe bucking the trend here but it had to be the worst meal of 21 days of dining! Not all of it was bad,the good: the pineapple bread, salad (how can you really mess up salad!),pork pot stickers, chicken wings & the steak -but this skewer only came to our table once. The bad: Lo Mein -cold ,no flavour,Stirfried veg-brocolli & 3 snowpeas ,again cold & no flavour-the pork, turkey & prawns-overcooked & tough & finally the banana bread pudding, foster's sauce & ice cream-should this be servered hot? That cold it didn't even melt the ice cream!
This was also the only restaurant where we never left at least 18-20% tip.
SD:thumbsup2

Ohana was one of our favorite meals of our most recent trip for a few reasons:
1. The food was great! Love the pineapple bread and the bread pudding dessert!
2. The view was great
3. The atmosphere was fun but not too loud for a nice meal for just DH and I
4. Family style was really nice
5. Did I mention the food? The salad, the meat.... yum

Hi, this was a breakfast, not dinner, which may make a difference. It wasn't that it was bad, just nothing special. It had all the standard waffles, bacon, eggs etc. that we could have got anywhere else. The African stuff (bobotie and such) seemed really bland - I was expecting a lot spicier and more flavour. We eat a lot of Thai and Indian stuff, so we are used to spicy and it seemed that the spice had been toned down so much to cater for the masses that it had lost its way. It also seemed a lot to pay for breakfast, to be honest!

Our votes are whether to return or whether to try something new, so it meant that two of us preferred to try somewhere else, rather than 2 of us not liking it, if that helps. I'd still try dinner there, just to see if I felt differently about dinner.

The difference being that if I told my DH and DD that I'd cancelled our Ohana reservation I'd have a mini revolt on my hands!

We always make it a point to do at least one breakfast at "Ohana's on every trip. We decided to have dinner there on our most recent trip in January. We had not had dinner there for a while and really wanted to go back. It was one of the best meals we had the whole time we were there. From now on it will have to be a must do for us.
