Whats in your Easter basket this year?

Our egg hunt has eggs with coins in them rather than any other candy/junky trinkets.

After a few years of finding rotten eggs that didn't get found we finally wised up and started doing the plastic eggs. We always have to send them in filled for school, so we just recycle the ones they bring home and refill them, usually with pennies or something. It goes over really well for the little ones in the family who think theyve come across gold when they find a few coins!

My kids don't really eat candy or any other type of sweets and I am tired of all the little junky stuff around our house. So what are my kids getting this year - a Wii!!! Not really budget minded but when I thought about how much I would spend on other junky stuff, I figured I might as well bite the bullet and spend another $150 and get something that they will really get my money's worth out of!

I always put a few Disney Dollars in there as well. Our egg hunt has eggs with coins in them rather than any other candy/junky trinkets.

Hay Gan what a good idea. I never thought about coins in there easter eggs!!
Thanks:flower3:

As a child all I received was an Easter oufit. Pretty new shoes and a dress.
Good Friday was spent sitting silently at home w/family. On easter sunday we wore our new outfits and had a huge family event, after church.

We moved to FL from NJ 7yrs ago. Our family is still in NJ, they visit for Thanksgiving. So Easter is spent alone. Every yr I think of something special for us to do so I don't get all emotional. This yr I am making a special basket. Remember when the AG Hopsscoch dolls were on sale last yr. Well I still have them I am giving them to my DD's. Also when TRU had there bogo free. I gave some at CHristmas and kept some for Easter baskets. Also after Christmas sale at B&BW had a huge sale 70% off AG shampoo and conditioner. BB&W also had some soap that looked like eggs they wer also 70% off. When we all go the $1. off candy at Target I bought some for their basket. I have books I got on sale for them also. It sound like alot but becasue I have been buying here and their it has cost much.

For the past yrs I've hidden candy in the plastic Easter eggs. in our backyard. Every yr the chocolate melts, this yr I'm spending the money I would on chocolate and putting them in the eggs. This way they can buy their own chocolate.

It also makes me happy to see their faces when they get their Easter Basket. My kids believe in Santa but they don't in the Easter Bunny. I tell them Daddy and Mommy did all the work.

I also put small lego pieces in the plastic eggs and the kids need to build something after they open their eggs.
I have silly putty-any age loves this stuff
hair stuff-I have two DD's
And the disney eggs!!

Please take this as a joke, it is not intended to offend...

Oh dear, now the pressure is really on! You give gifts for Valentine's Day too????

Please don't tell me St. Patty's Day and Summer Solstice Day require gifts too!!!! or better yet, don't tell my kids!!!! ;)

Dawn

Yes, I have only one DD so I give her a little V-tine basket. Oh, and I don't do St. Patty's Day or anything like that...your too funny. I do B-day, V-tines, Easter and Christmas.

This year I also purchased an egg hunt game that you use in the dark with flashlights. We're going to the mountains to spend Easter with other family so I thought this would be fun for the kids to do at night.

I'm not done shopping for dd15 & dd21m, but here's what I have so far:

DD15 - Pair of Dearfoam slippers (clearance $5), $10 Disney Dollars

DD8 - Disney Crocs ($19), Jasmine t-shirt (D-store clearance $5), Peter Pan washcloth that expands in water, $10 Disney Dollars, choc bunny?

DD6 - Disney Crocs ($13), Cinderella t-shirt (D-store clearance $5), Cinderella washcloth, $10 Disney Dollars, choc bunny?

DD21m - Dora slippers (Clearance $5)

They might get a sugar-free chocolate bunny, but no other candy. They will get plenty at our Church egg hunt... then we are going to a cook-out at a friend's house and they will get more there.

I wanted to find a pressed penny book or lanyard, but haven't done it yet. I think dd8 & dd6 have plenty!!!

We generally do candy and outdoor them things. DD loves to plant flowers in the spring, so I usually include some packets of seeds. Last year she got a little trowel and spade and garden gloves too. This year she has a frisbee, a new pair of swim goggles, and some sidewalk chalk.

Mine are both Teens, they are getting one treat and an i-tunes gift card each. They will be excited about this, but I miss the days when they wanted the cute easter baskets!

DS4 is getting....

Tooth Tunes toothbrush
Happy Feet DVD
Chocolate bunny
Jelly beans
Chocolate Candy (Cadbury bunnies and reese's)

I am hoping to do a Easter Egg hunt in the backyard this year with some of those pre-filled eggs. I'm just looking for the best price for those.

We will probably dye 1/2 dozen eggs and making cupcakes over the weekend. There were some good ideas in Women's Day and Family Circle that used dyed coconut with jelly beans and peeps chicks.

Easter weekend is one of the few times during the year we all get together (my family, siblings' families, folks.) On Saturday morning, the guys all go out and play golf while the moms take the kids to the big egg hunt that takes place on the driving range at the golf course. They have a nice spread of coffee, juices, cookies and pastries, so the kids are already jacked up. My kids (17 and 12) are the oldest of the next generation, but they still attend because the 'golden' eggs contain GAP gift cards! :rotfl:

That afternoon we go shopping, or take a walk around the island, and go have a nice dinner somewhere, or grill in the backyard... discuss everyones' plans for the summer/fall.

One Sunday there's a huge brunch at the golf course, so we do that after mass. I don't give baskets, but rather a purse, tote or a backpack of some kind. Something they will use the rest of the year. Inside the bag I always put one or two pieces of See's Candy and usually a bikini or an ipod accessory, or something like that. No grass, no plastic eggs to toss, etc...

Well, ds4 is getting the AK tree playset for Easter. We normally don't do bigger gifts for Easter, but dh saw how much it interested him a few weeks ago when we were at AK and asked me to get it, so I guess he will get it for Easter. His birthday is in December right before Christmas, so we won't wait for those to give it to him. We usually do nothing for Valentine's and a small basket for Easter with just candy and a couple of small inexpensive toys. Of course, he is an only child, and the youngest by many years on both sides, so he gets quite a bit year round......

We will also use his little plush train basket from previous years, and put a few Dollar Tree items (Peeps bubblesoap & play dough, and a pack of silly straws), and a couple of pieces of candy in it. He hasn't really picked up on Holidays yet, so I am not concerned about setting a precedent :)

I try to keep them equal and not go overboard on cost. Most of the items I found are from the dollar store so that i'm not wasting too much money.

:dance3:

My DS (5 years old) will be receiving 3 books purchased at Borders (buy 2, get one free) for $8.00. They are those Discovery Kids books..very cute and he loves them! He'll also be getting candy purchased at Walgreen and CVS that was on sale (I spent less than $5.00 and I can filled about three small baskets). I think I may throw in a Toothtunes (but I may give it to him for his birthday next month).

On Easter morning we always got a basket (same one every year, reused, but way cute), filled with purple grass for me, pink in my sisters. Same candy most all years, a bunny, egg gum, those coconut grass things with jelly beans, peeps and a few crispy chocolates. For "presents" we got new bathing suits, googles, and maybe some pool toys. Sometimes we got something extra like a CD or Movie. We loved it and now that I'm grown up I realize how crafty Mom was giving us things she would have bought anyhow for the pool/beach season.

We don't have kids yet but when we do we'll do something similar. I buy for my little brother (he's 11) still, we make him a little basket with cute items we find here and there.

Well, my kids are little but we do limit candy. This year the Easter bunny is leaving the kids easter bunny potato heads that I found for $7 each, a couple of eggs and some sidewalk chalk and maybe bubbles, if I find some.
I love the idea of coins in the eggs!! We also only put a couple of smarties in each plastic egg.
I wonder if I can find some Disney Dollars.... We leave for disneyland the week after Easter.

Just about all Disney stuff because our trip is at the beginning of May, so I figure they can bring some of their stuff with them on the trip to keep them entertained. I have been collecting stuff all year at the Disney stuff when they have good sales and Clearance. So, very little candy, but a whole lot of Disney stuff. My kids don't don't need the candy and it really is just a tease for my daughter since she is on a Gluten/Casein free diet and can't have a lot of the traditional types of candy. :sad2:

We use the same baskets every year. Also every year, the Easter bunny leaves a swimsuit, flip flops, and sun glasses (gotta buy all those anyway!). I also am going to get a webkinz for each- they don't have one yet and are about to die to get one! Other than that, it will be small and cheap stuff. Maybe some sidewalk chalk, coloring book each, bubbles, jump ropes- anything cheap you can get at the Dollar Tree or Dollar General. I buy some candy- not much though. I'll try to find some Disney stickers or maybe a poster- dd7 has been begging for a Hannah Montana poster for her room. Tried to get her to ask for a Tink one, but nope, she wants Hannah.:sad2: I may get her both (her birthday is coming up too!) I love Easter, but we try to keep it to a few things they have to have anyway and the rest cheap stuff!

My DS who is 8 has the same Easter basket since he was almost 2 months and at that time could fit in it. We fill it with grass, 1 choc bunny, sour candy, and gum. We always dye eggs and put a few in the basket as well. Sometimes I will get 1 special toy around $10. For the past couple years he has been going to the beach with Grandma. We explain to him his basket will be waiting at home when he gets back. Since he is the only grandchild my mom always makes him a basket and gives it to him while at the beach. Most of the time she puts thinks like sand toys him Happy Feet for my to give to him from use Easter Sunday only becuase we plan on buying the moving.
I am not that big into trying to spend lots of money and try to keep it under $25.00. What we enjoy most is having egg hunts, eating dinner, dressing for church, being with family, and dying our eggs.
